XBox 2 - Friggin' lame

:| If you think about it, console gaming taking advances start to resemble PC's.

Microsoft it seems, basically want a way of dominating the hardware as well as software side of running a PC....The X-Box is their way of doing that...at least to an extent

mmm would be interesting, Id get one and then toss it in my computer tower if its possible, would be fun to see what one can do on the modding scene, homebrew etc.

(I hope it has xbox compatabilty, it had better)

I, personally, think it's a great idea from Microsoft to make Xbox 2 compatible with both console games and PC games. No need for an upgrade when more graphically advanced games hit the market, it's ingenious!

I think it would be a nice sentiment, but ultimately kinda silly. PC games aren't optimized with certain hardware in mind so they'd surpass the abilities of the system probably within a year or so. It would however be cool for my friends to be able to buy one in lue of a real gaming computer.

except one downside (a major one) is the current "dumbing down" of pc games becuase the devlepoer wants to make it for both pc and console will grow even larger.

games like Duex ex II etc (aka crap becuase they had to "dumb" them down for the console scene and were to greedy to make a good game for just the pc)

Yeah i like the idea, it means it will be eaiser to convert xbox games to pc *legally* of course.

So, you think that just because Deus Ex: Invisible War was "dumbed down", as you put it, that most or all games that are released for the Xbox 2 will also be "dumbed down", and that the PC will get the shitty end of the stick? I think Microsoft knows what they're doing and they're doing it very well. You wait and see, my friend, this may turn out to be the best move Microsoft will ever make...hopefully.

*Deus Ex: Invisible War was not crap! Yeah, it had a lot of bugs, glitches, and random slow-downs (that could be fixed with patches), but overall it was an excellent game.

Exactly.

tbh, its a really good idea. I can't see why you would think its would be shit. At the end of the day a PC is wicked and a console is good for what it is. If they combined it would mean better technology and more and better games. simple. What is there not to like?

It would also play PC games and include a fully functional version of Windows, CD burner, DVD player (with remote control), built-in access to Xbox Live and a hard drive. Control-wise, the system would come with both a keyboard and mouse and a standard Xbox controller. The price point this particular study tested was $599.

Considering that they are putting in dual 64 bit cpus that would be a kickass system. There is no reason for you guys to be so ingnorant when you havent even seen the final system specs. Taking the xbox 2 to a lan party would be a lot easier then hauling around a tower. But how much money is microsoft going to lose if its selling for 599.

I'd rather they just make the plain old $200 or $300 console as usual (instead of that $600 one) and add support for XBox games/hardware (maybe direct support in the OS through some sort of DirectX wrapper) to the next version of Windows. That would be a great investment. For each person that bought the software (if they go through with their new anti-piracy stuff they won't have to worry about it being spread across the internet) they wouldn't have to sell a console at a loss but people would still be buying the overpriced hardware ($30 for a single controller?) and the games.

I already have a good computer with a nice CRT, keyboard/mouse, DVD/CD burner, hard drive, a cable connection, and an XBox controller for the PC (using a little $10-$20 USB converter). I don't need another computer to do all of that same crap. I just want a nice, powerful gaming system to play on the 51" HDTV in the living room.

Also, out of principle, I don't want to buy my next PC hardware directly from Microsoft. They already control the PC OS market and now they want a piece of the PC hardware market.

For $600, I can make a pretty decent gaming system. I think console pricing is getting out of control. There is no way everybody is going to buy a $600 console from sony, microsoft, and nintendo. I wonder what is going to happen on the console front.

Once consumers get disenchanted with the price and limits of a console system, they will come over to the PC. Muwhahaha.

Next, they will try to take over the world!

it should work both ways - xbox2 games should run on PC - but microsoft wont allow that because nobody would buy the Xbox2

grrr

Project Gotham Racing 3 will be so sweet, i'm gonna have to buy an Xbox2 just for that ;(

I like keeping pc and console games seperate.

Consoles for a more immediate, social experience and PCs for when there's noone about and for online play.

The XBox 2 does sound too similar to a pc. I applauded M$ decision to not make a mouse and keyboard available with the XBox (being a big fan of joypads for certain games) - but can't see that being possible with XBox 2. Halo 3 with mouse, I certainly hope not :/

However, Morris notes that even if this hybrid becomes a reality, it would probably be an alternative to a standalone XBox Next console, much like the Sony PSX is to the PlayStation 2.
That means the console proably wont cost 600 like it said in the artical

screw microsoft.

they are bastardizing pcs. they are abusing their virtual monopoly over the pc world(windows) to make their damn underpriced compromising console the "equal" of a pc, and "join the pc and console worlds". if any other console developer tried this, ms would change windows so they couldnt. dont get me wrong, consoles have their place, i like consoles. but their place is not that of the pc. the pc and console worlds are seperate for a reason, they belong apart, no one wants them together. i only hope that this fails miserably and ms gets hammered.

on a side note, isnt it illegal to sell below production costs? or does that only apply when the reason is to drive competitors out of business. i know walmart has been gotten a few times on this. meh.

i would much rather spend about 2 grand on a system that plays console games, does everything my computer does, watch tv and more, and can sit in my living room

The first X-Box sucked...the second one is gonna suck. No real suprise there.

Sounds like someone is in love with their ps2! >:) The first x box was alright for certain games but it needed a mouse and keyboard. I also hated the microphone for x box live, hearing some kid having a screaming fight with his mother, "mom Im playing Xbox!!" was too much for me. Also hearing some kid trying to rap killed me. I felt like I was babysitting, "Are you rapping? well please stfu!!" I ended up just giving all my games and xbox to my nephews but I will still check out the xbox2 when it comes out.

Yes. Tell me..what decent games were there on the X-Box? Also, the controller sucked. Why bother getting an x-box when you have a PC?

I know this wasnt directed towards me but I'll answer a bit of it. As far as decent games Moto gp2 kicked butt, 16 online racers, halo of course was fun and there are others. As far as why buy an xbox when you already have a pc is, why not? It is fun to have four friends hanging out in the living room playing on an widescreen hdtv.

I stated that Burnout 2: Point of Impact-Developer's Cut was released on the Xbox, but it was not released for both the GameCube and the Playstation 2. Therefore you are incorrect. You are right on saying that Burnout 2: Point of Impact was released for GCN and PS2, but they are not the Developer's Cut, only the Xbox has the Developer's Cut.
Also, the Grand Theft Auto Double Pack was not released for the PC, only for the PS2 and Xbox. So, you are incorrect again.

PC hardware prices are expected to plummet in the next decade (I think it was actually Billy Gates that predicted it), so eventually the cost of getting a decent gaming PC might be the same as getting the next big console. In which case consoles won't really have any market since one of the major features that draws people the consoles if the fact that they are much cheaper than PC's. So this is probably Microsofts way of getting into such a market early and monopolizing it.

This whole thing will of course really piss me off, if Microsoft can make a system that will run state of the art games and yet still be a PC then I will be extremelly mad at Microsoft for creating an OS for standard PC's that severly lags games, and I will be pissed off at hardware manufacturers for selling the parts to Microsoft cheap.

Stop being a smartass. I was merely making a point that Burnout 2: Point of Impact DEVELOPERS CUT is a pretty naff reason to get X-Box. Plus, I didnt say that the Developers Cut was released on those other two consoles. And by saying that the Grand Theft Auto Double Pack was released on PC and PS2, I meant the actual games..not the special offer.

the controller sucked
The new s controller is good. I dont know why so many people had a problem with the original it was a solid well built controller, it might have been big for for 10 year olds but The xbox was targeted to people in there twenties.

Yeah I know but it just seemed as though it was too crowded.

Are they trying to make PCs obsolete?

I'd say PC owners are getting shafted on this one.

But you didn't say that. You said that the Grand Theft Auto Double Pack was released also for the PS2 and PC, which is false. The Double Pack was only released for the PS2 and Xbox.

semantics, both games were released on other platforms, and a lot earlier to. for 1-2 years the only game xbox had was halo. of course there are good ones now, but it took a long time.
