I was the same way when the Super Nintendo came out. lol

Honestly, if I had a great PC I wouldn't be in such a hurry to get one at release price. Im all hyped up about these games. I have been playing WoW for like 6 months and haven't bought a new game since. Im BORED :(

Yeah, saw the graphics... they were alright, but not so incredibly impressive that I have to have one... maybe they will be in a year or two, but not right now
Games? Half of the games are sports games... boring. The others contain a couple worth getting - like Condemned, and maybe PD0 (that's a big maybe) but I'm waiting to see what the other consoles are going to be offering as games before getting one. Besides, I'm still put-off that it's not coming with HD DVD support out of the box... bad move by Microsoft if you ask me. It means there games are either going to start shipping with multiple discs or that they won;t be able to keep up.

Microsoft has recently stated they have made the decision to never switch to HD DVD. Because the current Xbox360s wouldn't be able to play the new games then. No link sorry(lazy), going to have to trust me on this one

so you will have to buy a dedicated HD DVD player if you want one.(which aren't out yet--which is why the xbox360 didn't already come HD DVD ready)

Im not interested at this point. I don't buy movies. I have hundreds of channels on satalite, some of the stations are now broadcasting in HD. Hopefully soon enough they will all be becuase one day i would like to buy an HD tv. meantime im buying the Xbox360 VGA adaptor and playing it on my extra 19" PC monitor

And if you want my opinion, rarely, if ever-is a game going to use a full disc as it is. I would say a game like oblivion could possibly use a full disc. I don't think it will be on 2 but lets not be lazy!

I'm just saying it may turn out to have a negative effect on games when they start running out of space on the DVDs, I donlt care too much about having an HD DVD player, I'd rather have a BluRay player anyway

HOLY JESUS!!!

That COD 2 Vid is f***g amazing, better gfx than Ive seen on a PC with a perfect frame rate OMGOMGOMGZONGFOMG

the graphics for call of duty 2 look the same as on my PC...

And considering that most people still use CRT tv's, which are low resolution compared to LCD Tv's, and Monitors and such, the graphics will look worse for them.

Most ppl here have monitors, and can output to them if needs be (i'd still rather play on a large tv, though) The difference is that on the 360 CoD2 will run at a constant and high frame rate - it doesn't on the pc. For someone who can't stand a rate as low as 40 on a monitor, especially during big fights, and hates any tiny pause when loading textures/maps etc, this is a godsend :)

Condemned looks so sweet...

And IGN's abysmal streaming service blows donkey cock...

hell yeah and, hell yeah.

sorry for that. all the popular gaming sites (the ones with all the good movies) are a spam attack nightmare of crap

i recommend downloading them. i couldn't even get it to play directly off their site.

Everyone console seems to have had about 10 racing games released within it's first year :S

I got to play Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero. :) Too bad I couldn't play Project Gotham Racing 3.

How can anyone tell anything about the graphics from videos resized so small?
Talk about overhyped media.

News for nerds writes "One of the features touted for Xbox 360 is its requirement for games to be 720p and 1080i HDTV resolutions, dubbed The HD Era by Microsoft. Today it's revealed and discussed in the official forum of Bizarre Creations, the Project Gotham Racing 3 developer, that in the final review build for PGR3 the in-game races are actually rendered in 1024x600 to get constant 30fps/2xAA. The game is stretched to 720p (1280x720) in the upscaler, which is faking HD at best." As always with late-night forum mutterings, imbibe with a grain of salt.
Just keep in mind that not all the games will have graphics as good as is being hyped.

Everything looks amazing, but I won't be nuying one because no console controller can even compare to the precision of a mouse and keyboard.

Those games look cool, but PC graphics are already where the XBOX360 ones are at (not including Gears of War and another couple of titles), so graphics is nothing to get overly hyped about.

After playing som newer titles on PC (NFSMW, CoD2) the XBOX360 unfortunately doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to.

The best was the condemned one when he's like "Take this asshole" and punches him in the face.

Jesus Christ! I'm getting a 360 just for Perfect Dark!

Condemned should be sued by Valve. There is a crowbar used to bludgeon one of those suckers. That has to be a blatant misuse of an IP.

True, all games look better on really small screens, but You can still judge atmosphere and animations.

But what games need, or even benefit, from precision of a mouse?

Some fps (most don't), rts, point and click, and management/inventory heavy games, that's about it. The rest (i.e. the vast majority) are more suited to a joypad - which also has the benefit of analogue movement (far 'better' than keyboard movement), rumble and triggers.

9/10 times you'll find the people who criticise joypads in favour of a m&k setup are those that can't use them to save their life.

The only real games I can think of that would be significantly better on a joypad than k&m would be fighters/action games (a la Ninja Gaiden).

If you want to test someones dexterity with a controller, Ninja Gaiden is the way to go.

Agreed :) FPS are a good test too (you'd be suprised how many people run about shooting the floor, walls, and ceiling, only to blame their lack of control on the joypad. Bad workmen ....)

Driving games are generally more suited to a pad, as are sports, platform, and the other ones you mentioned.

Considering the wide variety of genres that appear on consoles, and how versatile the joypad is, it makes perfect sense that consoles are packaged with pads and not a mouse (which makes me wonder - do we get such little variety on the pc because of the limitations of m&k, or because there isn't demand for other types of games?)

Sure, these look terrific because we have never seen this type of output from a console before. I couldn't care less about most of these titles except perhaps for PD0 if it turns out to be as good as it should be--multi-player especially.

The real disappointment I have with the 360 is that I just read in a popular gaming mag interview with a TES: Oblivion developer that they are locking the framerate at 30fps. Now, granted, the detail will be pretty high I am sure, but I expected much more from this highly touted workhorse of a multi-threaded system.

30 fps on a TV is different than 30 fps on a monitor

And warbie, I'll admint I probably can't use a joystick for crap, but I'm far better with a mouse. I guess it's just a matter of taste, but I'd like to play 1-on-1 with you and your joystick at any first person shooter around. sans Halo.

Keyboards offer more versatility.
Control pads are more fluid.

I stated that because I assumed there was some kind of controller debate going on. So shut the **** up and accept what I say.

Only if that fluid is the blood of a microsoft employee

Microsoft is a lifeless mechanical monstrosity that eats the young and devours the sick to assimilate their energies into Bill Gates' empire of doom. They do not bleed.

I like a keyboard and mouse combo alot, but am just as precise with an xbox controller.

I can't imagine a game like World of Warcraft using a control pad. A mouse is much better to select what ability you will attack with. But in nearly every other type of game I think a control pad is better.

I like them both, but if I had to chose, i would definately pick an Xbox controller.

it has dual analog sticks, a digital pad and touch sensitive (variable) analog trigger buttons.

So instead of in for example a racing game that uses a keyboard, where i can either give it full throttle or no throttle, i can use a controller to gradually press the throttle.

Also I haven't seen a racing game that uses a mouse, but games like NFS: most wanted use the keyboard and that sucks. you either turn full to the left or right, or you don't turn at all! Imagine driving 200 miles per hour and then suddenly turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. LOL disaster.

Same for walking and running. on a keyboard in games where you control a caracter, when u press a key to move you either move or stop. with a control pad like xbox has, you can walk very slow, run, and anything in-between. I have no problems controlling a FPS with a control pad. its better in my opinion. You have better control over the character movement, and the aiming is equally very precise. you use the left analog stick to move at variable rates of speed, and like a mouse, the left analog stick controlls the rate of speed of the aiming reticule (cross-hairs). you can push the stick further to move the reticule faster. Then u fire and reload with the trigger buttons.

That wouldn't be fair now would it ;)

It's much easier aiming with a mouse. A skilled joypad user would be destroyed by any mouse user every time. My whole point is that easier aiming isn't better, it's just easier.

Imagine one day someone invented a special pair of glasses for fps. To hit a target you just had to look at it. Would that be 'better' than a mouse? - it'd certainly quicker, easier, more intuitive (all the reasons many argue that a mouse is superior to a pad) I don't think it would.

I play all my favourite online games (rtcw/et, CS:S etc) using a m&k, they just wouldn't work with a joypad. The opposite is the case with GE, PD - two superb fps that would have been shite with a mouse. Different games work with different control methods.

I played an XBox 360 today at a promo event. Every single game was locked at 30, and some of them were dipping below, especially Perfect Dark Zero. I was rather disappointed overall, as well - Perfect Dark looked nice, but was actually pretty boring, and Project Gotham 3 was just another ho-hum racer. That said, I only played two games, but I wasn't really that impressed (and the imitation-rapper guys working there really pissed me off).

I think the reason they lock in the framerate is so when you play multiplayer or when everything is happening at once, the framerate wont drop from say, 100 to 28 frames per second. That would be so noticable, and would be sketchy. So they lock it at 30 so that it stays constant about the same framerate. So if it drops 1 or 2 fps or goes to 31 fps, it will go back to 30fps almost instantly.

oh no shit? I mean i know 30fps is fine, but below 30? like where there was tons of smoke on the screen or something? i mean .. elaborate if you would. I think i saw it in one part in a movie, but it was not even for a second i saw it stutter. But thats what processors do. They can stutter once in a while. It usually doesn't effect gameplay.

I saw tons of it on the Oblivion Demo for PC and they were rumored to have had 2 top of the line graphics cards.

I'm not really worried about losing some frames becuase I had Super Castelvania for the Super NES and it played like it was on Slo-Motion. I kid you not it was like 5 frames per second in places. But the game was awesome and the graphics were sweet as hell for that time. pieces of bones flying off in all directions rotating. This is some taxing shit for a graphics processor.

I;m getting an xbox360 and it's going to be smooth

lmao@ imitation rapper

I hear you. I just played a couple of demos at Walmart at their 360 kiosk and they are all fine and dandy, but nothing my current PC can't handle really nicely. I can see why, though, if you can't get a good PC you would want this system. Still, you can get a very decent PC for rather little right now and given the productivity that a PC can offer (especially in terms of open source software), the sky's the limit! Parents who are looking into the 360 for their children should consider that option over the latest strictly-gaming machine...but the crying and pleading and tantrums usually win out over any good sense that might have been left before the whining started.
