ya Portal 2 sucks

holy shit at

... how much the salt mine is so soaked in half-life atmosphere. AMAZING. vast chasms of grey blok buildings, wires, cranes, silos, rubble, small fires... all throughout these chapters - which are somehow managing to be the eeriest, creepiest and downright unnerving places in a game i've played in a long time, yet i know for a fact there isn't going to be any creature or beast here - my jaw is wide open with just how amazingly creative and talented the art directors and designers are with this such recognizably half-life/valve style. it's just... guh, i can't even comprehend.

if you took out the chambers and portal gun, wandering around in this abandoned facility could be ripped right out of something you would fall into as freeman. on the downside, it ****ing sucks that i have to walk around these downtrodden lower levels in portal 2, because i don't want to be in that game anymore now. well, i digress - i'm loving the hell out of it - but this is really, really making me hungry for new half-life. i want to be here as freeman and actually have a good reason to be so creeped out and on edge as i go around every corner, and every time i do make a turn all i can see in my head are those vague pieces of concept art released a while back showing the borealis stuck amongst that gigantic ice cavern in the distance...

speaking of which, the dry dock is a lovely touch.

I was thinking how great it would have been if the giant sealed door in the salt mines was some old entrance to Black Mesa, as if the facilities were neighboring.

the giant door was incredible, loved the fact that it opened up to a tiny dingy corridor. all it was missing was a flickering light and a puddle under a broken pipe to really emphasize it's dankness. funny stuff.

Did anyone else notice that

the entire upper facility (built after 1980s) is situated over a giant bed of springs and shock absorbers? Just like NORAD. Truly, Cave Johnson wanted Science to go on even in the event of global nuclear war or other events of an apocalyptic nature. :p

I loved the giant door, too. And the fact that people used to man the booths at the entrance. Why the heck would they seal off the old labs anyway? I was expecting some kind of horrifying radiological/chemical/biohazardous disaster site of some sorts, or maybe another AI that Aperture had built but abandoned.

Also, what is the place that you were first dropped? I mean, before you go through that giant door. They sealed the old labs..... but what was the place on the other side of the door?

Questions, questions.....

That would not have been great.

I knew it was totally implausible, just an interesting 'what if' I had.

Also, the Michigan-based part of Aperture is in Upper Michigan, beyond the lakes.

But isn't Upper Michigan the northmost part which borders with Wisconsin? As for Ohio, the location was very specific: Cleveland.

Uhhh...besides nothing?

About three extra inches of e-peen. Oh and hats. :) I did it for fun though. I never 100% games. I hardly ever finish singleplayer campaigns. With the ones I do finish though achievements can be a way to enjoy a game more by having something extra to do. Plus the harder achievements can be a real challenge to accomplish. They actually feel like an achievement when you complete them. I had fun doing it and that is what counts I guess.

I just realized why I hate The Space Core in this game. It's about the only humor based thing in the entire game I really disliked, but I never had a reason why, until now-

It is EXACTLY like Invader Zim humor. In fact it totally reminds me of 15 year olds blurting out "random" Gir lines. It seems it has almost become the new "Cake is a lie", but perhaps even more annoying.

I was thinking the same thing.

Yeah I have to agree, Space Core has definitely entered serious meme territory. I don't mind it as much as I did Gir though.
