well, i'm not speaking about the people in the south, because i don't know that many, and the ones i do know are good people. what i am saying is that the south is run down, the only towns that really impressed me were Atlanta and Miami. Atlanta because it seems like a city that should be further north and miami because i can't believe people actually want to live there.

the places where i've lived and where i come from certainly are kept much nicer, as well as having better education due to high property taxes. i wouldn't want to live there, but that's not saying a whole lot since i don't know where i want to live.
I'm guessing you never been to Jacksonville, Orlando, Tallahasse (sp?), Birmingham (yes a Brit name), and Montgomery?Oh and don't forget Tampa Bay and Nashville.... ;)

Yes, those people are dumb, but I've had people from other countries, including canada ask me dumb questions about California...(Wow, I heard it doesn't ever rain there...)(Have you ever seen snow?)(Do Californians really surf every day?)(Do you know 'insert famous person from hollywood's name here'?)

So

You got some real dumbasses in Canada
A friend of mine went to Europe last summer (to several countries), and when he told someone he was from southern California, they asked, apparently seriously, "So do you guys surf to school?"

Supreme lol, duuu-hude. Hang ten (lols).

"Hey, you got a pet kangaroo, don't you?"
"D'you people still ride horses down there?"
"Do you pledge alleigance to the Queen of England in school every morning?"
"You gots electricity?"
"You guys don't have TV yet, do you?"
"Can I buy one of them echidnas down here?"
"Do you have to buy a license for a horse-and-buggy?"
"Can I see your boomerang?"

- Either anecdotal, or direct (Especially the kangaroo one, which we unfortunately had to answer "yes" to, as we were wildlife carers at the time...). My Dad says every country exports their idiots...

Every country has their idiots, America seems to have an abundance of them though.

My sister just moved out there as of a month ago with my mum (who is American) and talking to her over the phone/internet she is very gobsmacked at the general public out there lol.

She is also quite amused at the "fashion" too, she thinks its very, very down and out. Bear in mind fashion is my family trade, most of us work in it and she just moved to Ohio, Nuff said lol

Here watch these clips from Rick Mercer's TV program "Talking to Americans" ...funny stuff, enjoy

here's an excerpt:

DID YOU KNOW that the capitol building of Canada is a big ass Igloo? Arkansas Governor Michael Huckabee did!

"So do ya speak Canadian in your country?"
"I'm sorry sir, but I've never heard of a country called UK"

Nah...as have been stated, there are morons in every country, completely ignorant to the rest of the world, some because they haven't got a proper education or no at all, some because they're just way too retarded to start with. Not much we can do about it though....or is there? :naughty: :sniper:

watch the videos I posted, there's a harvard proffesor and the governor of arkansas, so it's not only uneducated people that are ignorant

There is a thriving population of idiots the world over- the only solution? An annual cull.

*ahem*

Stereotypes suck of course. I just gawk when I encounter uneducated Canadians (sorry, I know of very few Americans, most of the [mad] tourists we get here are Canadian) who are convinced that Brits are a crumpet-munching tea-sipping backwater of royalty-worshipping monarchists. Oh, and don't forget the bad teeth. Sheesh.

Southern Hicks are retarded, if your going to see america come up north where all the actions at :)

"Ever had to shoot a bear?"
"Has a bear ever come into town and killed someone"
Those questions aren't as unreasonable as you may think, there are a few areas in northern Ontario where bears really do come into town often and people do have to shoot them. Of course Obviously not in London (i'm staying in residence at UWO as I type this) though.

i've been to them all except montgomery.

Okay, how 'bout New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Shreveport, Monroe?

I have a theory that intelligent tourists are just moron magnets. Most tourists however, are morons themselves. :D

i doubt alientank will read this post because its so buried by the others, but my girlfriend and i plan on moving to london ontario in a few years (we ar ein florida right now)

Right on man! Tip: Move to the north end of town, or Byron. Those are the nice areas, the north end where I live is just being developed, though I've been in this house for 10 years. My house WAS on the very north tip of london but they've expanded behind my subdivision. It's really nice up here, stay out of the east end, it's not that nice, and the south you can move to if you want to live in 100 year old houses. What made you decide to move here? I can give you a few reasons why you should.

1) Our health care system kicks the shit out of the US one. Can't really complain when you need a heart transplant surgery worth about 60,000 dollars, and you get it for free.

2) Integrated banking system. So you have debit cards. This means not having to use a damn credit card everywhere, or carry wads of cash around. All our banks are integrated (BMO, TD canada trust, Royal Bank, Scotiabank, you name it they are together, you can use your debit card anywhere) and let me tell you man, it's a hell of a lot easier and safer then carrying around a lot of $.

There's other reasons but those are just a few for now :)

The mullinator, what are you taking at UWO? I'm at Fanshawe taking a systems technician course/networking. And as for bears walking into town, it would have to be a small town I'd think, and it's not a regular thing.

Psh, there's dumbasses everywhere. Canadians, fellow Americans, Europeons, there's dumbasses in every crowd. Travel the world, meet more dumbasses. That's what I do, and boy is it fun. :)

Make's me feel good though, to know that I haven't fallen into the total dumbass trap yet. :p

okay, wait...i'm confused...are you saying that we don't have debit cards in the US? i'm pretty sure that that's NOT what you're saying, but please explain... (great, i've just added credit to the title of this thread)

Wow small world. I'm a first year in the Med-Syd residence taking computer science.

The weather has been terrible this past week hasn't it. :)

the attachment is part of a picture collage thing my girlfriend made for me about our future, it had the names of our future children and so on in there.

i want to move to canada because canadians seem like generally nicer people, and also the more lax drug laws and tighter gun restriction sounds just right to me.

didnt your mother ever say to you "guns are fun till someone loses an eye"

you know you're in a city that doesnt have a lot of guns when a gunshot is heard everybody within earshot says:

"someone's car needs a new muffler"

seriously I dont think I've ever heard a gun go off in the city ...shot a shotgun when I was young but that's it

just remember these words and all will be well:

guns make baby jesus cry :smoking:

I wouldnt trust her if I were you ...she thinks robins are popsicles, everyone knows robins are more like cotton candy

you probably figured this out but her name is robin and she is talking about how she gets to live in canada but that area isnt that cold, she talks funny like this sometimes just for the hell of it. like my own yoda.

We got stupid people here too (well, every country got them) Heres a story from my work.

I work as a technician during the summers on events like Vasaloppet and other big skiing, cycling and motorcross events.

My "duty" is the electronic timing we have. Everyone gets a chip so we can read the exact time and all that when they finnish. What you need to do to register is to walk up to a guy on a computer, the guy ask for his/her code and register a chip for it. Heres the big problem... they kid now gets 2 things to think about... holding the chip and walk out...

We tell them to go beside us and out behind us so they wont have to go back through everyone to go out where the enterance is. This doesnt work. Some people say "Yeah, the exit is behind you?" Yeah, just walk here *shows*" "Aha, thanks" then she/he turns around and walk the wrong way out.

I mean come on. I though people would take the simplest way out. A free exit or a group of people (hundreds)... but nooooo.

This seem to happen alot with germans... even if we talk in german with them :)

I find the only proper way to deal with crowds of germans is with a big stick

You guys do have debit there, where your bank gives you a debit card to use at interac machines and that I believe. However we can use ours ANYWHERE in Canada. Basically, you guys do have a debit card system which works with a pin number likes ours does. You swipe the card, select the account you want to take money out of, put your pin code in, and tada, the money is taken out of your account, no signing papers like for a credit card, etc. Your debit card system is not nearly as broad as ours is, meaning we can use it anywhere in Canada whereas you guys can't, and boy does it come in handy.

Right on man, well, if you want to talk on MSN, just PM me your email and we could meet up sometime  Yes it's been a terrible week, the sun hasn't been out AT ALL, I feel like I live in Gotham city, always raining and dark/cloudy.

Sounds good man, you are right, they are pretty anal about guns up here, helps keep crime down, and it's a generally nicer place to live then the US, the biggest bonus being healthcare. Even Dave Chappelle said on an episode that if you need surgery, just go to Canada, it's free lol.

We are all pretty nice, and I find that Americans typically know less about Canada then what Canada knows about the US, however that's a given, they are far more popular. Great healthcare, we actually know how to make good beer up here unlike the states (had to sneak that one in), great people, less pollution, cheaper drugs, it's a good place to live. When I was younger I wanted to move to the states just because it was another country, now I would never live there, I just love it too much here, it really is a kickass country.

And yes, we get hot weather in the summer. Infact last winter it didn't even start to snow here until the second week of January, and it had been pretty nice weather for the mostpart all the way until December (55-60 F) and beginning of January it was still above zero in the daytime. We get snow usually mid December-early March so it's not as bad as some people make it out to be about saying Canada gets tons of snow, it's only about 2.5-3 months the rest of the year is great.

actually, we CAN use our ATM cards anywhere...it's just our banks usually charge us a buck or two for using another bank's ATM

It's scary how little Americans know about Canada...

One of the guys commentating during the baseball playoff games was talking about the weather (around 52 degrees fahrenheit at the time), and then Larry Walker came up to bat. He then said "Well, Larry Walker would be used to this kind of weather, it doesn't get this warm on a hot day in the middle of the summer in Canada."

Sad...

Haha, I went to Ft. Lauderdale on Vacation one year, wow, one question asked by a man from Texas was pretty funny...

"Do you folks have schools up there or do y'all come down here to learn?"

I just laughed, god.
