Your Favourite Game Soundtracks

Hmm, I must be thinking of San Andreas then. Guns n Roses, most hard rock from the 80's... easy mistake to make, given how dull and repetitive they all are. Either way, I still had the urge to drive my car into a brick wall until it caught fire when they came on.

:frown:

HALO 2 - Breaking Benjamin - Blow me Away
PREY - AFTERMIDNIGHT PROJECT - Take me Home

Looking through the Vice City playlist, there was one good song, and that was Madhouse by Anthrax. And there was a Yes song, buy not a very good one. But looking through the rest of the playlists makes me want to stab out my eyes.

Thou hath failed.

Starcraft

Half-Life/Half-Life 2

Unreal Tournament, as well as a few select tracks from the UT2K3/4 games.

Perfect Dark had some wonderful stuff.

Quake 3, as well as most of Sonic Mayhem's work.

...

I don't care for GTA's selection, simply because there are rarely (if ever) any songs played that fall within my tastes. I can't knock the devs for that though, since my favorite artists don't really scream "popular" by any stretch.

The comedy radio station in GTA3, with those hilarious adverts and talkshows. Awesome.

Oh, and SSX Tricky's soundtracks were pretty awesome. 'See you at the bitter end!'

Oh, the talk shows in the GTA games are always brilliant. But as far as music selection? I just load my own playlists.

More:

KOTOR had some really lush compositions. Not so much the classic Star Wars themes, but Jeremy Soule's work. <3

Deus Ex/Invisible War could be hit and miss. A lot of chaff, but some parts just make you go wow.

Fallout's soundtrack was great for setting the mood. I just wish there was more of it. There are only so many times I can hear some strange string/horn/drone crescendo repeat in a cave or vault before I find myself muting it.

The Public Enemy mod for the original Half-Life had some great shit. Particularly "Man On The Moon".

Holy shit... I thought I was one of the only people who ever played Jazz Jackrabbit. Hahaha, talk about old school...

I remember that!

I don't remember the music from it, but I remember it!

Ace Combat 4/5 was cool...
Ahh.. what was that game... god... so long... umm...
oh, Shattered Universe, its a free mmog that you can download... damned, that game has the freaking most addictive song.. every so often, after even not playing it, it just comes in my head and I HAVE to hum it.

I remember that!

That was on DOS, for Christ's sakes. I also remember playing some game about being environmentally friendly called Ecosaurus. Things have come a long way since then...

Metroid - NES
Metroid - SNES
Metroid - GBA
Metroid - Gamecube

Probably the others too; haven't played them though

going off thread, but i just found out that jazz jackrabbit was made by the creators of ut2k4..

**** yes. If they hadn't made JJR, they wouldn't have gotten the money to create their Unreal engines! :naughty:

Out of games I've played: The 7th Guest, the Duke Nukem 3d theme ("Grabbag"), Halo (music is one thing it got right), Grim Fandango, Max Payne, the opening track from F.E.A.R., Final Fantasy X, Megaman II, lots of Mario games, the opening to both Kingdom Hearts, Castlevania series, Guitar Hero series (cheating...). Oh yeah, Marble Madness had great music.

Oh, and Jazz Jackrabbit is/was awesome as a game, but I don't remember much about the soundtrack, except the title screen song, which was fun but not among my favorites.

Kororinpa has some songs that are so sickly sweet it feels as though someone is drowning you in bucket of melted candy - good stuff

Hehe.. Kingdom Hearts openings go with EVERYTHING...
Except puzzle games..
and Pornos..
and... err... Wii Sports...

What about Bust-a-Move? Goddamn if that music doesn't change you into a complete crazy fiend after a massive multiplayer session. That game should come with a health warning.

Halo has a good theme.
Chatterbox and VCPR WTF! (GTA3 and GTA:VA, respectivly)
HL2 has some good tracks.
Metal Gear Solid theme is great.
Hell March and Hell March 2 are fantastic. (C&C: Red Alert and C&C: Red Alert 2, respectivly)
C&C: Generals has quite a good soundtrack too.

Edit: I like some of the tracks from Advance Wars too.

Zomg, Advance Wars series (BLACK HOLE SUPPPEEERRRPPOOOWWWEEERRR!!!!) has cool music I find myself humming sometimes, for no reason.

Phoenix Wright has a decent tinny little music soundtrack.

I prefer Black Hole Power to Super Power. The best one is It's A Trap, though.

the Duke Nukem 3d theme ("Grabbag")
Megadeth, "Duke Nukem Theme"
That song ****in rocks.

Oh yeah, Marble Madness had great music.

You and my brother would get along great.

My brother has that arcade game; it's one of his favorite games ever made.

Yeah, kingdom hearts GBA was so cool, halo, some of the songs from a couple of the levels in Street Fighter II *.*, Zelda [1], Super Double Dragon, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, some of the Castlevania games, Doom 3 theme song, Half-Life2, etc.

Can't think of anymore atm. I already said basically, "every metroid game" as my favorite.

Oh yeah! Rush N Attack - NES. (USA name) I can't believe how good that song is considering the hardware they had to work with.

If you're like me (Which I doubt many, if any, of you guys are) and like Rap and Hip-Hop then True Crime: Streets of L.A has the best soundtrack.

For non-generical music (As in not rap, hip-hop, metal and such) then I suggest any of the Splinter Cell games. Amon Tobin and Michael McCann do great jobs for the soundtrack. Also check out any of the Hitman games (Also featured with Splinter Cell) composer Jesper Kyd. He is the main composer for the Hitman series and composed the score for Splinter Cell's cinematics.

And for a mix of mainstream and non-mainstream hip-hop/rap, punk and rock check out the Tony Hawk series. The have a fine collection of some of the best songs from commonly known and unkown artists.

I personally liked the following:

Elite Beat Agents (right off the bat - I'm playing it right now; finally reached over 100 million points)

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (not as good as EBA in my opinion, but still enjoyable)

Moero Nekketsu Rhythm Tamashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (this is a really good game with a score that tops its predecessor)

Metroid Prime - in general (especially Prime - the atmosphere it created is epic)

Some Metal Slug (cool military tunes)

Prince of Persia (have the Trilogy Soundtrack - again, sets atmosphere really well)

Old-school Sonic (one word: awesomeness!)

God of War series (SO AWESOME - These are probably THE best epic scores in all of videogame history *sings in head*)

Theme of F.E.A.R. (just that though, there's really no more music, I think, I'll check later)

Gears of War (also features some amazing music that really complements the ongoing action)

Jet Set Radio Future and Jet Grind Radio (SO awesome and really fits with the wackyness of the games, I have the soundtrack too!)

Oddworld also had some nice tunes (they fit with the world well)

Old-school Crash Bandicoot (pure coolness until the series died)

General Mario music (c'mon...)

---

Whew! That's about it for me, I think...

Oh and ZeroPointGun, I love hip-Hop and Rap too, although I haven't played True Crime yet, I'll have to check it out.

OUUUEEEENNNDDAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imho Ouendan2 > EBA > Ouendan.

But still, OUEEEENDDDAAAAAN!!!!!

Well hey Kahonee atleast someone agrees with me. You should give True Crime a whirl, both True Crime games. They are good. Although the second one is like an 8th of the size of the first game (area in which you can travel) it is still great fun.

Mega Man 2 has the greatest videogame soundtrack ever(Mega Man 3 is also great)
Castlevania 1-4 all have some really great tracks
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Donkey Kong Country 1/2(really unique ambient music)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night(gotta list this on it's own, it's just that good)

Obviously all of these games are fairly old, I guess i'm not really into the more movie-score-like soundtracks of todays games. Also, listing game soundtracks that are just compilations of music from popular culture shouldn't count :p

Star Wars (Any Star Wars game) has some good pieces of music in them. I prefer KOTOR 1's soundtrack.

Breath of Fire 4 was good, FF6-7, Super Street Fighter 2X and SF3:TS, Secret of Manas 1 and 3, Crono Trigger and Cross, Mega Man X1, 4, 6, Rockman and Bass, Sonic CD, Axelay, F Zero X, KI Gold, TMNT 4, Mario 64..

O__o

Yeah, I loved the music from F-Zero (SNES/Arcade)

I liked the music from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 also.

Besides those, and the soundtracks I mentioned previously in the thread, I really liked the music from Grand Theft Auto III. What a killer soundtrack with something great for any tastes. I especially liked it because I listen to music from all of the popular genres.

Trance, Rap, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Classical, Reggae, talk, and Pop. GTA III had some killer cuts from all of these. I used to boot up the game just to listen to the music sometimes.

Also liked the music from Onimusha *.*

All games' music is pale in comparison to The Legend of Zelda (namely the original & OoT) and the Mario series (specifically Super Mario World 1 and 2); Koji Kondo is the greatest video-game composer of all-time, with Uematsu coming in a close second.

Mario world had fun music but it hasn't aged well for me. I can't pop on SNES amp and sit back to Mario World like I can everything else I listed. Mario 64 is by far the best mario music ever created. OoT is fantastic too though. Can't believe I didn't list it because sometimes I find myself whistling certain themes, the woods theme in particular.

Theme of F.E.A.R. (just that though, there's really no more music, I think, I'll check later)

There were a few tracks in FEAR but most was just "OHMAHGOSHSCARY!11". There wasn't any blood pumping songs I don't think. Except maybe this one:

Medal of Honor: Frontline had a nice soundtrack.
Medieval 2: Total War
Age of Empires theme would give me chills every time I heard it redone in a new installment.

Forgot to mention Shadow of The Collosus

Absolutely brilliant soundtrack, that goes from awesome to sad at the drop of a hat.

Doom 1, 2 and 3! And more importantly, Duke Nukem 3D! Also the trailer music from Duke Nukem Forever was epic.

Any music from any Blizzard games

Music from the UT's
