Its a good marketing scheme though
CZ was way under expectations so it was not selling, i bet valve say a huge increase in sales after this anouncement
Here are Qs&As from an email i sent to Rick Ellis
1A - You guys have stated that you plan to update the source engine with new technology, what technology do you plan to implement?
*** We're going to make another pass at the tools and continue to improve the graphics of the engine (working...
Well seeing as doom3 and ut2003 both droped their ATI partnership in favor of NVidia after ATI leaked their material i would not be suprised if this was to happen with HL2 as well
I doubt it has happend yet but it is highly possible
Actually it does, the leak has full HDR and ALPT support it is just not enabled by default and all PS in the leak are dx9 and 8 only
Also there have been a few games released that use full DX9 level fx such a the farcry demo wich also has HDR and dx9 video filter modes and also uses VS and Ps...
Compile times in source are drasticly reduced, something like 25% of what hl1 compile times were
CSG has been removed and source does not do bsp cuts using texture luxels anymore so no scaling textures to lower WPolys, wooohoooo
This has been comfirmed by rick ellis
DirectX is the best right now, not many people use linux or mac to play game (cept for running servers)
Windows is the best os for gaming and dx is much more feature ful then ogl at this point, ogl use to be the best around the time that hl1 was released but it has not really evolved since...
Yea, that map is in the leak but in the leak it was far from finished, it has been upgraded alot, it is one of the more impressive maps in the leak because of the layout, it is a small cliff over the ocean with a few houses right next to a freeway that curves along the coastline and across a...
All of the issues with nvidia that were present when the hl2 benchmarks were released were caused by horrible drivers and have since been fixed
The whole "ati runs hl2 better then nvidia" thing was just a marketing scheme and who ever fell for it was suckered by ati
HL2 does have weather fx
All shadows are projected in one direction (not effected by light sources) the only realtime shadows are those on normal maped surfaces
I got this info from a rick ellis email
Right now DirectX is much more mature then mature OGL, OGL was the standard back when hl1 was released but it has not really advanced much since then
If OGL was updated now it would most likely be far superior to DX in all areas
