Physgun, physcannon's yet another name for the gravity gun.
Some people call it the manipulator(I know I do) and some call it the gravity gun; doesn't really matter which one of the two names you use, people'll understand you.
The majority of us has already played through the game; you don't have to write up something that seems like it's for reference about if you should get the game or not. And yes, you should've played on normal/hard the first time if you're used to playing FPS's(everyone should, in my opinion).
You're supposed to be Freeman. Somehow I doubt every each one of us will look like G-Man in a matter of years.
Edit: On second thought, I add that I know this has kind of been said, wanted to clarify it.
Like someone said at the server I was playing at, it should be seen as a beta, or at least not as a complete version. Needs better netcode, balancing and needs debugging. Promising, though.
He did just say "months". That could mean 11 months for all you know.

If you look at games using engines that had been around for a year or so before the game was released, you'll notice it makes a big difference. Why would it be better to start from scratch than with the Source engine?
When I got to the fourteenth chapter, everything was different shades of white/black or blue(or, when there was certain lightning effects, orange). I thought this was something that was meant to happen and kept playing 'til the end. But when I finished and started a new game, I noticed that same...
I'm pretty sure these people do feel like they're being directly screwed over, though. But look at it like this: if you(this goes out to the ones complaining) were receiving games for free, but then had to pay money because the makers wanted some profit, would you think they were bad people...
You'd have to have Steam running.
Firewalls don't affect it much, and it's a built in function of Windows XP.
You wouldn't want to install spyware anyway.
Antivirus programs don't necessarily have to run in the background all the time.
