Press F8 while the PC boots to get the boot menu for XP. Then select the option "Do not automatically reboot" or somethin like that. Then you can see the blue screen error, research the error code and possibly fix whatever the error is.
Actually you don't have to know that much about hard drive at all except the fact that when you "delete" something in Windows, it isn't really gone until that part of the drive is overwritten hence why programs such as GetDataBack FAT32/NTFS can retrieve files and such. And isn't hotmail...
My friend has an X800PE and it sets the graphics pretty low for him, granted he has an Athlon XP 3200+, not an Athlon 64. It runs great on my system, but wasn't the game designed toward nVidia more?
1.) Check Internet Connection
2.) Check System Time (If it's set to early/late than it won't work. I've had this happen to me before)
3.) Try again later
4.) Call Microsoft Activation yourself.
I remember my first PC. It was like...130ishMHz, Windows 95, 700MB HD, 16MB Ram (upgraded to 32 later). It was kick ass when I first got it in like...1995-1996. But you know...by 2000 it sucked. Got a 533MHz Celeron which sucked after a year, 2003 got P4 2.66Ghz laptop, and in 2005 I built...
i think that's more than enough. In fact I think it may be too much unless XP isnt using that much memory in the first place. I'd upgrade the memory to at least 1GB, but if HL2 runs fine with ur current config than I see no reason to upgrade.
Use Diskeeper, by default that "Set it and Forget It" option is off. I don't use it, but I defrag whenever I want to. Some of the files that won't be defragmented are probably "Fragmented Folders". Diskeeper doesn't defrag those either, but in Diskeeper if you set a "Boot Time Defrag" it'll...
I switched to DFi...anydangway, you gotta take the entire mobo out and there are push-pin type clips on the bottom. :) I replaced the fan before I sold it to my friend to get my sweet DFi board.
awww, be nice to him. He's a n00b. jk. I'm sure he's not a n00b, but a lot of things can get screwy if you type something wrong in the console. My friend changes CS:S things in the console all the time like changing the crosshair size and some other thing like cl_*_0.0.1. The "*" is there...
Although it was short, it was non-stop action which I liked. The graphics were simply incredible. I did a quick run through of the level which is why it was short, but now I'm gonna really look at all aspects of the level and how gorgeous HDR is :). I love this game :)
