Yeah.. On the whole I still support steam but there's definitely major problems still to sort out.
Mostly I suspect down to bandwith provision. They need more servers. Badly. Like Elf needs food! Aaah well.
I have to say though if HL2 doesn't come out like 2 months in advance of the...
Actually I disagree..
Every id software game has been playable to the max, from wolf 3D up to Q3. Q3 is still the best pure fun deathmatch/tournament experience there is bar none. Amongst its direct competitors it simply can't be beat for pacing, style, balance or gameplay. It takes years...
Depends on the game I'm making. :dozey:
Would a horror based, tense game of survival benefit from large airy open areas? Not really.
Would an epic tale of alien conquest covering a whole city and more work without large open areas? Equally no.
I think you'll find Doom 3's engine will...
Well D3 doesn't have dynamic shadows. It has truly dynamic lighting. There is a difference, although it's easy for a lot of people to incorrectly focus on the results of that instead (the dynamic shadows).
Your suit is stylish.
You're not wrong that it's getting old, but I'm afraid you're going to have to put up with it. Valve are like the new id, people bash them because they can, because they're near the top of what they do and because somehow something is not entirely perfect in their own...
True.. The modular system has been used before by raven IIRC. It does pose a whole bunch of related problems however and I see no evidence of it in the screenies/videos so far.
Actually D3's engine has been basically finished for a year (bar any minor tweaking JC decides to do) It's all been content for a while.
Also if JC is confident enough to lay down exact minimums (even if they're likely to be 'the minimum you can run it at', he's so technically correct about...
Amen.
There seems to be a determined desire around here to ignore the practical realities of the systems that Valve (and id) are coding for.
Yes, most crab guys will look exactly the same, just as they did in HL1. The same goes for Combine soldiers.
You may well have 5 or 6 variations...
Didn't anyone think the docks video was kind of 'fisheyed'?
I suspect it has more to do with the way the sky seemed to converge on the sun playing tricks on my mind tan anything else.
I've got a similar system.
There are times things will drop that low in UT2K3 but they should be VERY few and far between. I find that the map thats situated on the volcano (not the CTF one, the DM map wich doesn't appear in the single player) is particularly hard on my FPS especially with...
Funnily enough my old physics teacher used to use the word 'fie' from time to time.
Hell I think I have at least once in fairly recent memory. Funny the habits you pick upisn't it?
Another favourite polite version of mine for 'Oh F**k!' is 'Fiddlesticks!' which makes even less sense...
In a project as large and detailed as HL2 it would be ridiculous to require 100 % aligned textures throughout, they'll do it as much as they can but in a case like the planks on the docks? I doubt it sincerely.
It would require an insane number of assets and textures to accomodate evey...
I tell you what I am more concerned about is the advent of B movie standard acting in our on screen characters!
It wasn't so bad when the graphics weren't as realistic but as they become so I can see myself get more judgemental about bad computer acting.
I mean did everyone else NOT think...
