Anyone know of a good newbie server? This is my second day with the game, and I'd like to know if there's a server out there that has other people with my skill level (next to nothing) that play on it. Thanks for your help.

Ok, I'm downloading CS:S after buying the silver package, but I see DoD:S also downloading. Is something messing up, or is it just a preload?

As Brian Damage said, they aren't drivable, but Valve created one that was drivable just for them to mess around in. They won't be drivable in the game.

Ok, for singleplayer, you can EITHER connect to Steam or have your CD in the drive. For MP, you have to be connected to steam.

Yes. You can preload HL2, and get the CD key from your retail copy, and add it to your Steam account, and play without the CD.

Yes, we know that themes and such often contain spyware, but the many wallpapers are nice, the bootskin is good, and the WMP skin is official, and is what I've been using for the past months. Overall, a good collection of stuff.

If you paid around $50 for it, then it's the single+multi+mods. The only way you'ld get the single only is if you preordered it from a place like Wal-Mart, and I don't think they even do preorders.

The only people that won't get it are the people with the singleplayer only version, because it can't run mods. Duh.

Just expanding Brian's post. SP Only - Retail SP+MP+Mods - Retail and Steam Collectors - Retail and Steam Subscription - Steam Subscription is: Basically, the subscription crowd gets Half-Life 2, and any future Valve games/content as long as they continue the subscription. I think.
