I used to get that with my 9600XT. I submitted a support request to ATI and they told me to send it in for repairs.
I got a new one back, but that one had other problems. I think I've sorted it out now by getting a newer, more powerful power supply.
Far Cry did just get an HDR patch. Unfortunately, it absolutely kills framerate.
Valve have done an HDR demo, but it's not available in the game currently.
There's another post in the general forum about this.
Basically, you had a "Half-life" font installed.
You need to remove that font and install the one in the valve directory in it's place.
It's an error with the decrypting/decompressing. Valve has posted that removing the models .gcf cache file and re-downloading it may solve the problem. They're looking for a real solution also.
Not as long as Deus Ex : Invisible War. :)
Longer then I'd like. Seems to be extracting files from the .GCF's constantly. Would like a way to extract them all ahead of time, but I suspect it's done on-the-fly to prevent piracy.
