I used to get that with my 9600XT. I submitted a support request to ATI and they told me to send it in for repairs. I got a new one back, but that one had other problems. I think I've sorted it out now by getting a newer, more powerful power supply.

Far Cry did just get an HDR patch. Unfortunately, it absolutely kills framerate. Valve have done an HDR demo, but it's not available in the game currently.

I'm running the game with everything on high Turn textures to medium. That's what Valve suggests for 512 MB RAM.

Valve is suggesting the models .gcf cache file may be corrupt. Try renaming it and redownloading.

There's another post in the general forum about this. Basically, you had a "Half-life" font installed. You need to remove that font and install the one in the valve directory in it's place.

Check for an opening along the side wall. I can't tell for sure if it's the same area I got stuck in, but I had simply missed an opening.

It's an error with the decrypting/decompressing. Valve has posted that removing the models .gcf cache file and re-downloading it may solve the problem. They're looking for a real solution also.

Not as long as Deus Ex : Invisible War. :) Longer then I'd like. Seems to be extracting files from the .GCF's constantly. Would like a way to extract them all ahead of time, but I suspect it's done on-the-fly to prevent piracy.

I noticed some audio problems when my HL2 settings were at "headphones" but my windows settings were "5.1". Might check into that.

Didn't change any computer settings. Computers are very similar. Just copied over files. Please also post the fileSIZES of the .GCF files.
