xposted from steam forums. thanks in advance for any help
Okay, here's the situation. I'm quite fond of the original Half Life, been playing it for years. I've been playing Day of Defeat lately and having this strange problem with my mouse movements. The framerates, though detestable to some...
Okay, thanks, I appreciate it. I haven't messed with MP in a long time that I dunno how it all really works and I'm just really trying to make sure it's even capable of LAN. :) Thanks.
UPDATE: Okay, I dun need help anymore. I tweaked the BIOS considerably. Now I can play the game! and CS:S runs BEAUTIFULLY with me bots (I'm dialup). I had to do the following to get it to work as it does now:
Turned the AGP to 4x, disabled fastwrites (as I meant to do anyway), and turn the RAM...
UPDATE:
Okay so basically I've got HL2 all updated and shizzle, and the main game is virtually unplayable in its current state. So I said screw it and tried some mods.
I loaded up a mod or two and realized something... EVERY Time a monster made its presence on the screen, the game would either...
I've only found problems when it comes to steam. It's never displayed the update progress correctly, and has never started offline mode for me. It is by far one of the glitchiest and most frustrating applications I've ever used... Oh, but HL2 is a great game when it runs. :-P
I actually just figured that out today and messed around with the settings. I'll have to tweak it some more. Right now I'm running with my Memory at +.1v, a setting I have on that helped with my Far Cry problems. Now I have my RAM clock speed down to 133 from 200.
None of these did anything...
Yeah, I start the single player mode. The white flash inbetween seeing the Gman and getting on the train kinda freezes up for a moment before you're given control of gordon. After that, you see the train pulling into the station as normal, but as soon as it reaches the platform, lockup and I...
Whatever it is, the fact is that I KNOW I'm not the only one having these problems. Not to mention that Steam NEVER runs right. I can't even get Offline mode to work anymore.
No, I hear ya.
Actually, this is kind of ridiculous this has gone on this long. I recently upgraded my mobo/cpu from a VIA chipset+Athlon 2800 to a Gigabyte mobo+Athlon 64 3500+, and honestly, the game ran better on the LAST setup I had... WTF?
1gb pc2700 RAM, A64 3500+, Radeon 9800 Pro...
Oh my, this thread still lives huh?
Well, all I can really suggest for any of you is to update your RAM by another 512 stick. It fixed just about 80% of the problems I had when I was still on 512 MB.
Okay, basically I've had the same stutter problems that everyone else has been having, but i've also been operating HL2 on only 512 mb of RAM. I JUST upgraded to a gig, and I opened HL2, and IMMEDIATELY noticed a major improvement. The game runs like a dream, no stutter in sight. The loading...
No G-Woman please...
Oh! oh! I've got it! How about they have Yoda come in and swing his light saber at Darth Breen and be "Strong, the dark side is. Best you, I will." and then make breen careen(LOL RHYME)ing off of the citadel at 1500002145235105016203673243q6234&^#$ MPH!!! :-D
Okay...
Yes, but you shouldn't have to pay another fifty bucks to replace ONE of the five cds. I mean, it kind of proves that I'm not bsing them when I come to them with the cds, only having four of them. After all, what the hell are you gonna do with two copies of only one cd? It's not even a play or...
Well, I will write them a letter or an email very soon asking them for a new CD. I mean, I lose one cd out of the set, so whoever has it is pretty much screwed as they have no way of using it, and I DID pay for the cds. So I don't think a replacement cd for one of the cds is too much to ask for...
