cadaveca said:why would he change his tune?
that is my question.what was the big thing that made the difference? what happened?
sure, he said the date(at least one quote), and missed it. why? why, one year ago, were we all so dissappointed?
cadaveca said:and if you kiddies did some research.....(snip) is more adolescent dribble.
exoeight said:he want's proof is the arguement, and we have given it, and he denies it. that's the arguement.
it's not about him believing it or not, about him denying every source given.
But maybe he had posted reasons somewhere
exoeight said:yeah honestly, talking about fighting against logic, way to bring this stuff up a year later when searching through archived information is as easy as trying to convince you of the truth.
the most memoriable proof i know of is a direct quote of gabe newell in person during an INTERVIEW IN PERSON which is impossible to find, i'm searching now, i believe it was on a sunday he said that the game was going to be release sept. 30th, and i only rememberd that because one day later it was delayed. a lot revolved around that quote for a few weeks...
>_< it's such solid proof it isn't funny, and obviously i'm not gonna be able to find it with any ease anytime soon... it's rediculous how incredibly ignorant you are, considering you could be doing half the work we are for the sources you want so dearly.
i swear when i find this quote, i will exact revenge on you some how with my computer knowledge for this stress. and no, i can't just ignore you, i'm must prove you wrong, for i know this to be fact.
exoeight said:can you all deny that the last minute "sept 30th 2003" thing the day before delay was fake? it was famous!
arggg
it must be on the net somewhere.... >_<
i never claimed to be mature! lolSomeone said:Because the game simply wasn't done. They overestimated...bad planning (as doug and gabe have said since...I will find links if you'd like). He stated it around the time it was delayed.
Valve, Gabe, truly hoped the game would be out by then...they thought they could make sept 30th and missed it. Simple as that really. They blew it.
The game was delayed because it wasn't done (nothing to do with hardware or the theft).
And for the record...I'll be 37 next month so the:
comments don't really go along way in showing your
e own maturity.
exoeight said:....ok... so then we got him a source? wtf?
Neutrino said:He already admitted that he was wrong about that and that it was indeed Valve's official release date.
I'm currently unable to determine what his point is now though.
truly tho.. i would like to know what it was that made the game incomplete.
gabe also has to be standing on his head and clapping his hands while he is saying it two times in a row for it to be a satisfactory source for cadaverexoeight said:oh wait, it's not reliable source unless gabe says it two times IN A ROW.... >_<
one source is enough sources, this dude needs to just go now.
exoeight said:yeah honestly, talking about fighting against logic, way to bring this stuff up a year later when searching through archived information is as easy as trying to convince you of the truth.
place should have all the answers, no? should be the best place, yes?
cadaveca said:i never claimed to be mature! lol
truly tho.. i would like to know what it was that made the game incomplete. was there an insurmountable error or something, or was it the hardware. Or was it microsoft. If i ask a question, i generally like to be able to have facts to back up the answer.
exoeight said:your assumtions bring out your ignorance.
the best is an opinion, many other major hl2 sites, like hl2fallout.
CB | Para said:cadaveca your registration date reads august 2004, most of us here have been around for over a year, we were right here on these bloody forums when it happened; we all remember perfectly what happened.
But you... you weren't here last year, and you pop out of the blue asking us to dig up old threads just for your sake? Do it yourself, that's why there's a search function and if you still can't find anything, just browse manually through the threads 'till you find what you're looking for.
Neutrino already gave you what you asked for, and you just ignored him so my advice to you is go look for the threads yourself.
exoeight said:it's not about being right you idiot!
i never said a thing about you being wrong.
it's about you DENYING obviouse PROOF.
GABE said it right before the delay, undeniable.
Mold said:Please don't base your entire story on the fact that Gabe gave Doug a dirty look when he mentioned the release date at the conclusion of that presentation. You know, he could have been glaring at him for other reasons... like maybe he was suppost to keep his trap shut and not mention it at all, but did anyway. :hmph: :burp:
i was wrong

yet you still try to flame away, like a donkey chasing a carrot...follow blind one..follow...exoeight said:repeat to rub in your face you stupid jerk.
Arguing B.S. to be annoying after you are wrong is beyond an immature debate.
Someone said:Now worries...you never flamed me personally, but I am one of the people in the thread so those comments do have a "blanket" effect to everyone in the thread.
On that note, only valve know the answer for absolute fact.
There will be no 100% fact in any direction why it was delayed....all we have is Gabe/Doug saying "It just wasn't done." And also "It wasn't because of the theft." (both can be found fairly quickly I would think)
I would say realistically the game just wasn't close to being done and they overestimated (a lot of games are delayed after all). I think the code theft added to the length of the delay in the end. I would say the Nvidia stuff probably added (somewhat) to it because obviously they wanted everyone to buy the game and nVidia is obviously a HUGE market. Not that they delayed the game because if nVidia, but I imagine they spent a LOT of time while building the game trying to make it work right for those cards work up to snuff.
But that's all speculation..and sadly we'll probably never know the absolute truth.

cadaveca said:so what's your opinion on the game game was complete, but only in DX8, and the delay was for DX9?
ukfluke said:cadaveca did u not look at the picture i posted on page 3? here it is again ...look at the top right hand corner of the image . what does it say?
anyway im not sure what point ur trying to make. that gabe didnt lie to us? it was all VUs fault? please tell me
Someone said:Me personal opinion is the game wasn't done at all. Not just DX9 or whatever....
I think a good portion (models/maps/sounds/engine/physics etc) of the actual content was incomplete.
I don't think it would have added a year+ to the time of the game finally being released otherwise.
And I believe the stolen build did work in dx8 and dx9....someone who has played it would have to confirm that though. I could be wrong on that though.
cadaveca said:was the interview with gabe saying so posted here? you would think so, seeing how valve funds this forum, if it was official.
still no links.
when did Gabe change from benchmark "to test upcoming hardware and drivers" to Game?
Spugmaster said:My question to you is - why do you care? What do you need this information for? Heap of people have already asked you why you are bothering to push for this information so stongly and you have dodged the question every time. Are you a lawyer working for Vivendi or something? What is so goddam important about who said what over a year ago?
I guess the crux of my problem with this entire thread is that you haven't explained what you will be using this information for...
ukfluke said:yes yes the DX9 stuff works in the stolen build. Also cadaveca E3 was not 4 days before 30 sept 2003.
also to make things up in your head like "stolen build was just a compile of partial work for e3 2003" when you havnt even played the stolen build? lol
well i have and i can tell u everything is there that they had. why would they have 20 odd levels that werent even shown at e3? and all the models etc etc.
also last time i checked its pretty hard to steal a hard disk from america when your in germany. ( the guy they flew over for the fake interview to bust ). Gabe newel himself also gave a full account of his pc being compromised. I think that posts on HL2 world somewhere.
