A little tip for those who aren't taking this well

I've just spent 5 weeks without an internet connection. "OMG WTF!!!!11LOL" I can hear some of you shouting. But anyway, at first I was a bit anxious, wondering about the developments in HL2 (what happened with that secret page on half-life2.com btw? was there a continuation?) but fairly quickly it wore off and I forgot about it.

Now I'm back on with a splendid 56K connection - *shovels a bit more coal into the beast* - and I feel quite content and patient to wait for the game. In fact I've lost interest in the latest screenshots, or videos, or interviews - I'd rather not have too much information now.

So for all you folks who are developing incontinence problems and a bad case of piles over this: take a break!

Stop whining about valve, stop starting flame threads and get away from it for a while. Don't visit the forums, don't visit the websites, just let yourself have a rest and wait for the game. You'll come out of it a much calmer person.

its just delay after delay on everything valve, and in the end, we'll see the game in like november. really i wouldnt be surprised.

at one point i will lose all hope, im just gonna realize being all anxiousover this game is not gonna help, and then when i wake up one morning itll say "HALFLIFE 2 IS OUT IN STORES". then ill be like "yay".

yeah and like, i had my ati coupon, and on the same day i found it under a rubbel of trash, i read that ati holders will receive the cs:s beta.

then i found out it was preloading on the 5th and released on the 10th.
i was happy, i had a date to look forward to.

but then i saw a video, and cliffe said "we'll be releasing the beta to cyber cafe people first, and then to cz owners like 1 or 2 weeks later".

this really pissed me off, i thought EVERYONE got it on the 10th.

my feeling of hope and joy was gone.

and now yet another delay.

i mean this is gonna take ****ing forever to get out, and dont even start on HL2.
yet i STILL have a feeling of hope and it drives me crazy.

Don't know about you, but I am having one hell of a time waiting for this game, hunting for any bit of info I can find, and sharing thoughts and media with this awesome community.

then when everyone says "oh a delay, how surprising, we'll see it in 2 weeks then. then we wait 2 weeks, nothing yet, and they "WE RE REALLY REALLY CLOSE NOW" and people start YAY MAYBE ITLL COME OUT TOMORROW?

THEN we wait EVEN LONGER, and valve says "itll be out on the 10th", and then everyone gets happy again. then valve says "a slight delay", and everyone is , and then in 7 weeks afterwards it comes out, after everyone has lost hope.

This is precisely my point - you'll develop an anurism if you get too exited over these things.

Step #1 to happiness: Delete your HL2 Media directory. I had every video there was, and I mean *every* one, screenshots, even all the tutorials about XSI. A few gigs worth it was. Then I shift+deleted the whole thing. OK I slightly regret it now, but it's done good, I don't have anything to hold on too, or to get me exited again. I'm just getting on with my life.

(god it sounds like I was an uber HL2 freak from what Im writing, and I wasn't really)

I think we need to keep in mind that so far, it seems, the only "delay" that's been announced is for the preloading of CS: Source. That said, it doesn't look good. At SOME point, I think valve are just gonna have to say "**** it, it's released", even if 20% of the general public can't play it because they have a certain processor on a certain motherboard with a certain kind of RAM. Patch it later, that's what steam is for...

You're right, Valve hasn't announced as many delays as people seem to think/feel. In fact the number is probably only 2 (Sept 2003, and now CS:S beta, which is the most unimportant thing when you think about it).

It is the *people's* fault that there is all this hype - and I think we can all agree that 'hype' is a very, *very* bad thing, in any industry.

we11er, I absolutely agree with you. That is the best way to pass the time. As the saying goes, "A watched pot never boils." Hence, if we sit around here, and on the net, digging around endlessly for the latest video to add to our collection of every other HL2 footage, we are only extending the time that the game will seem to be released.

Actually its the other way around. Developers purposly hype a game. Why? Because you get thousands of people suckered in by the hype, making your profits much better. I give you Star Wars Galaxies. It was a shitty game, but it had such a huge pre-release following that it sold enourmous(sp?) ammounts of copies.

It seems to me that paying attention to forums and media is okay as long as you don't pay attention to release dates. Until they give an official release date, I'm completely leaving that alone; could be august, could be december, but until they say, I'm not gonna pay attention to when people think it might come. Thinking "It's probably gonna be September, it's probably gonna be September" makes me go insane.

Actually, they only sayd 30th of sept. so if they release it on the 30th of september then they kept there promise.
