Anyone hyped for Wolfenstein?

Sounds like it'll be more fun if it's got more tactical elements in it now.

Somtimes I feel that when a game is good in an unexpected way, and develops a following, the developer seems to have no idea what made the game popular, and tries to make a sequal by adding in features from other games that they aspire to be.

I played RTCW for a long time after it came out, and at the time it was often compared to Medal of Honor: Allied Assault which was the other big WW2 game at the time. While MOHAA was aiming for mock cinematic realism (The start of CoD), RTCW was all about arcade fun. Combat came down to fast paced running and shooting, such as Circle Strafing around somone and dragging your aim to their head, or jumping down slopes into a crouch and being able to imediately headshot 2 guys, cooking grenades and instagibbing 3 people in an airvent.

I dont understand why there isnt room in this world for games that are based entirely around comfortable control schemes and twitch based gameplay, without having to conform to things such as mandatory iron-sights, or shakey cams. I mean dont get me wrong, its nice in a realistic and immersive tactical game to have those things, but fast-paced arcade games are different, they always had their own nuances and gameplay styles without having to put handicaps on you.

I guess I am just glad TF2 came along.

I couldn't agree more

That's the thing, it's not more tactical, it's slower. In RTCW you had to do all the 'tactical' stuff required in cod/moh, just much faster and while also pulling off quake style headshots.

:)

He's been absorbed by the engineer. The trade off is the soldier being viable now - if the new, bigger weapons are good, that is - he was only ever picked in rtcw for the panzer. It works out as the same no. of classes. If I remember right you liked MoH, Stern? In that case you might like this weird hybrid, in a dirty kind of way.

Oh, the engine sucks. It's got that same weird feelng ET:QW has - like you're not actually shooting anything and levels have this messy, cluttered look.

so no airstrike?

oh god they're putting the occult type weapons in mp? so far it sounds nothing like rtcw except that it's set in ww2

Don't worry so much about the guns - there are no occult weapons (although each unit has their own veil power that goes with the class). The soldier has access to a more beefy machine gun, panzer, flame thrower etc. You can upgrade weapons with money earned during the round - scope for rifle, bullets that do more damage etc. It isn't all bad, but the changes leave me scratching my head. Lobsters 'Somtimes I feel that when a game is good in an unexpected way, and develops a following, the developer seems to have no idea what made the game popular' paragraph is particularly apt here.

Does the flamethrower really look as shitty as it appears in the vids and screenshots? It looks like they took a huge step backward from RTCW's awesome looking one.

my only question is can you pee on people? if not i think i'll pass.

LOL. Yeah, peeing on yourself to stop from burning alive was awesome in Postal 2 as well. The sound effects alone are worth the price of admission. Hopefully id will be smart and include this gameplay gem in the new Wolfenstein...but I have my doubts. :(

i think i'd be a kid in a candy store if they included that feature in the sims 3.

let's be honest, no everyone in the world simply gets a job and a house...some people just like peeing on others.

a demo will be released sometime after release.

What we dont know is:
- When after release
- If it is a singleplayer map or multiplayer demo
- What platforms will get it

It was brought to our attention on Friday, 7/31 that a build of the Wolfenstein Multiplayer was leaked and is now being distributed illegally through breach of NDA and mirrors posted on the internet. I must warn anyone involved that Activision’s legal department is taking this matter very seriously.
After no official comments on the recent Wolfenstein MP leak, Sokal issued a statement regarding the build of the leak, stating that it was not the "final or consumer ready" version, and also announced that a SDK will be available after release, and that they will "release updates to address feedback from the competitive community."
Mods are going to be tremendous.

I saw a commercial on Hulu for it. Completely uninterested now.

I judge all games based on syndicated ads on websites paid for by media conglomerates too, Broheim. Shit's gonna suck!

Yeah, nobody makes decisions on whether they're interested in a movie based on a syndicated trailer on websites paid for by media conglomerates, or by reading syndicated reviews on websites paid for by media conglomerates.

And trailers are made by the developers 95% of the time. If thats the best commercial they could produce for their product then that says something to me. And clearly I am claiming my opinion as a fact, and am waiving off any other people's opinions on what makes a game good or fun, rather than just stating my current level of interest in the game based on the media and information provided to me by people trying to sell me the game.

God, I am such a tool.

I was being tongue n' cheek, mang. If the trailer turned you off, that's totally gravy with me.

Let's put it this way. It's out in less than a week and there's still isn't one single review, that's not a good sign at all :|

The building where I work was just visited by two blonde chicks in long black coats, with nothing but a bustier and net stockings underneath it. Turned out they were a Wolfenstein promo team. And, no, I didn't make any pics.

I wonder what's up with that.

I'm disregarding criticism towards the game until I get more detail, like from a few hands on reviews. So far though, particularly from the comments Warbie made, it's sounding like a completely different game from what I imagined it.

I just want Wolfenstein3D with all the modern upgrades. I don't want a tactical shooter or a multiplayer centered game at all. I want a fun twitch shooter with interesting environments, enemies and weapons and a great single player campaign.

You want Painkiller then.

Also, Shaker where do you work that a video game's promo team would visit?

Oh, god. Painkiller was one of the worst games I've ever played. I know some of you are fans, sorry. I guess I can't effectively describe what I would want in a Wolf game.

But it had everything you just described! YOU'RE LYING TO US AND TO YOURSELF.

One of my local game stores was selling this early. I didn't get it though, i'd only get this cheap and if it is any good >_>

Never been a fan of Wolfenstein, doubt this one will make me change my mind

I have to say from that vid it looks pretty good. Will ponder getting this game more.

Still reserving my judgment until a demo or stellar reviews by people / sites I trust. My urge to kill Nazi mutant scum is growing though.

Any news on this one? I was thinking about getting it but i see a couple of bad reviews on game.co.uk.

Anyone played it / seen it for themselves?

It's a solid Single Player game, really a typical Raven FPS Single Player experience. The Multi however is something people may as well forget about. It's crap.

Just from what I can tell from the small screenshots I've seen, it looks like the character models are really good, but the map models look very basic.

I'm referring to (wireframe) polygon count. Anyone care to comment on that?

The character models are pretty good, and at times so are the shaders and lighting. I think what lets Wolfenstein down are the rather basic town sections which act as a hub. These levels contain some really basic mapping, as well as some quite poor bitmaps passing itself of as litter.

When your going at a proper mission though, such as the farm assault and the hospital investigation, combined with the veil powers and the weighty combat the game really does show why Raven are still one of the best dev teams around.

I will say give the game a chance past the initial trainyard and town, and it will reward you greatly.

I really want to make mods for it. That shit will be fun. I was curious to see what simple mods people had already came up with.

So, looking for mods, I came across this PC case mod:
