AvP3

Darkside, you're making me want to play this game. Stop it.

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO

YOU WANT TO RACE DOWN CORRIDORS HISSING WITH YOUR ALIEN BROS MAKING MARINES SHIT THEIR PANTS AND FIRE WILDLY INTO THE DARKNESS

BUT YOU'RE NOT THERE, YOU'RE ABOVE THEM

AND NOW YOU'RE EATING THEIR BRAINS AND GUTTING THEM WITH YOUR TAIL

HISSSS

I've had some great games with people I meet and group up with randomly while I play. We usually try and fill up the match with either aliens or marines and then team up.

During one match, it was us 4 aliens who were pitted against another team of friends, which included one predator and 4 other marines. That's right: 1 predator working with 4 marines. They camped the ramp room as we tried hurling ourselves at their defenses, only to be cut down by pulse rifle and disc fire. Eventually we all positioned ourselves at different entrances into the room and gave the signal over mic to rush in. There were losses, but we had ultimately routed their front line and destroyed their merry band of humanoids.

Apparently we made them mad because the host disconnected and booted us all. Haha, sweet victory. HISSSSS

AvP3 is a great game, but I admit it took me a good dozen rounds to fully appreciate how awesome the game will be when the gamemode is TDM and it's a different map.

I still won't buy it when it comes out... that may have less to do with the game itself and more with the awesomeness the game has to possess for me to pay full price. I wouldn't even buy Dragon Age full price and I don't know if I will bring myself to pay full price for Mass Effect. The last thing I payed full price for was Orange Box... if that gives you any idea.

Granted I think it will be fun... and I do appreciate an FPS with the variety that AVP has always offered... I just can't do it! Too bad they aren't doing a four pack, because I'd do that.

Like all these "Run up and press one button to kill for console kids" comments...how much time did you guys even spend playing the demo? That shit never happens unless you've successfully snuck up on somebody or stunned them and maneuvered around for a TK. How are you going to "run up and press E to win" when you've got marines camping the round room protecting each others' weak points? YOU CAN'T. How are you going to "press E to win" when you're constantly being stunned by light attacks? Even in cases where you CAN get a TK, there's often the matter of whether you should or not...because TKs leave you wide open for someone else to come over while you're in the animation and fuck your shit.

My name's Durkside, I like to completely ignore da fact that the alien is faster than the two other classes and can climb on walls, so all you have to do is circle around an enemy and repeatedly press E until you get a kill. Even though everyone here has done this numerous times and it's really easy I'm gunna tell u its hard and tactical and say that the alien isn't overpowered and takes skill.

hey would have helped to put in a tutorial IMO >_>

From what I've seen Aliens are definitely the worst of the three classes. I figure that's why they gave them the ability to see through walls. But they can't go toe to toe with anyone because... well a predator just wins and a marine can melee and run backwards tearing them apart. They have to rely on their speed to get into and out of situations. There's like one in five chance you'll pull of a lengthy grab kill without getting killed immediately afterward. I've found that if you're a marine or a predator with some ranged weapons you can easily get a sweet double kill from someone trying to do a grab kill in the wide open. The best aliens get into a good position and spring on people running by or stay in the dark so they can at least have the advantage of surprise. Still, it's hard to overcome the lack of any ranged ability without a good deal of speed and stealth.

Also, has anyone used the flamethrower as a marine? It seems like it does absolutely nothing of use but make you look like you should be killed before everyone else around.

I'm more interested in the singleplayer campaign TBH.

So what weapons does the marine have. Does he have the grenade launcher with multiple types of ammo and the rocket launcher?

Which by doing so leaves you open to attack from any other player for 2 seconds. Decent players stalk their prey to a secluded place and sneak up on them to minimise noise that gives away your position and the chance you'll be killed during the attack. Then again only people that have any idea how to play the class would know that.

implying you can circle around a predator after he's sprint-uppercut you
implying you can circle around a predator after light stun
implying I would be the alien and not the predator

Ahaha, wow, thats quite a bad score.

Ive seen the game in motion and it looks kinda cool, but nothing like as cool as the originals.

Looks like we have another next-gen-revamp flop.

game informer gave it a 5.8

HAAHHA

Already discussed. Not a review, a badly written two minute hands on by someone who has never watched a single related movie or played an AvP game or apparently a FPS.

Check out the flack he's getting here:-

You can tell all that without even playing it? You sure you didn't write that review?

Now that you mention it, I cant find the AVP3 review on Game Informer and failed to read backwards in the thread.

I fell for it! I shouldve known!

[troll mode on]

Alien and Predator in the same game = lame

[/troll mode off]

from what I have played it seems unlikely

a proof is the wrid looking sniper rifle that dont look like a sniper rifle at all
well compared to the awsome sniper rifle of avp2

From the multiplayer demo the marine has access to the following:-

Pulse Rifle/Underside Grenade Launcher
Shotgun
Smartgun
Flamthrower
Sniper Rifle
Pistol

I don't know if that's all the weapons or if the full game will feature more.

its me or the predator spear can only be used as a throw?

Alien heavy has ridiculous range and stun. Use it. Good aliens can end the game early with a 30 score.

As for the flamethrower, you have to lay down a (quite liberal) amount of secondary-fire before you can light anything up. When you do so, you can have a constant-fire on a corridor (pretty much death for anything going through it) for about 10-20 seconds depending on how much you put down. It's more of an "area denial" tool than an actual weapon, and I think it'll be much more useful in Team play where you have one guy constantly blocking a corridor with FLAMES OF DOOM rather than in DM where you're constantly watching every direction for aliens trying to poke their tail up your butt.

(Also, the spear sucks. Disc is much more useful.)

Hah, keep your auto guiding disc which makes you use a bright targeting laser and give me the spear that I can aim without giving myself away :D

I didn't even know there was a secondary fire for the flamethrower... admittedly I gave up on it after it wasn't completely awesome straight away.

I'd rather give away my position with the disc that doesn't even have to hit the first time to kill everyone in the room than lob a spear that will likely miss from more than 15 yards.

I've found it to be quite a bit more effective for surprise "up in the rafter" kills, which are my favourite kind :D.

Finally got to play one game. I enjoyed the multiplayer, really fun. Seems kinda heavy at times, some times my fps would go down to like 10. Predator seemed to be super powerful, I couldn't take him down 1on1, always had to sneak behind him and do a killing blow.

Oh and the menus were downright horrible. I had to go trough like 4 submenus, just to find the damn controls.

Does anyone have the re-released AVP Gold on steam?

I'm thinking of rebuying it solely for the built-in server browser but I'd like to know if it works better than the lobby system on Gamespy Arcade.

Yeah, I have it. You just brose a list of peoples games from the menu. There is no dedicated servers though, just P2P. If you want me to take a shot of the multi game screen just ask.

Yeah, I'd appreciate that.
Also, did they by any chance add mouse control to the menus? :p

A bit annoying having to use the keyboard to navigate them.

The main multiplayer option from the main menu takes you here:-

Then browsing available games takes you here:-

There is no mouse control on the menu's, still keyboard unfortunately.
