AvP3

It's ok but nothing special.

The alien attacks seem to auto-aim at everything. I killed 100 predators because they were standing there doing a finishing move. The jumping's consolized. No crouch.

The graphics aren't really top of the range, so it runs smoothly.

I don't really mind the jumping because there are some jumps that would be ****ing impossible to gauge if it weren't for it. I embrace it because it will allow for entirely new map designs that FPSs have never ventured into because the platforming would be too cruel to force a user to attempt over and over again. Simply hitting forward, space (maybe duck-jumping on occasion) then backward in the air to slow your fall speed is a frustratingly small set of tools. I do miss things like being able to blindly fling yourself in the air over outdoor walls as the alien though. Someone correct me if this kind of thing is still possible.

I played around a dozen matches on the 360, and I have to say, I loved it. The Alien is most likely overpowered as of now, seeing as how in my very first match I won 14 to 11 and my last one was 28 to 8 (both were with 4-8 players).

Also, manuvering the Alien isn't so much about staying on a particular surface and moving precisley, but thinking "I want to go here" to yourself and letting instinct take over. Even with hard to follow camera I manage to move around the map, avoiding large fights, and taking down the squishy Marines.

Never used the pounce though.

I couldn't figure out how to do half the shit, even after looking at the controls.

I was the predator, and I couldn't do ****ing anything but walk around and use my blades. No other weapons or abilities work except for the jump.

Then everyone left, and I didn't feel like waiting 5 mins for matchmaking.

I was so hyped about this game... *sigh*

ya took me a few rounds to figure it out too

you need to pickup new weapons and use mouse 3 (default) to aim and fire/throw
still haven't quite figured out how to parry grab moves

but ya, the controls tend to feel a bit clunky and the camera can be incredibly disorienting

gonna wait and see how well received the full game becomes

I...don't know if it was acutal lag or something, but my moving was glitched, i kept going back and forward, was it lagging or is it the game? D:?!

There seems to be a huge discrepancy of opinions between PC and 360 players. I fear PC users got stuck with a crappy port with unresponsive controls and terribad matchmaking :3

They fixed the matchmaking problem now, and it's only like this for the demo. Btw, when I first tried it I ****ing hated it, but I dunno, after like 2-3 rounds I realized it is quite faithful to the old AvP games, and I started enjoying it quite a bit. I'd say being a predator is way more fun than in the first AvP. Also, once I toned down the graphics a tiny bit the game became a lot faster and playable.

The map in the demo is pretty gay though.

That map does look boring. The marine gameplay looks fun but that motion sensor click will probably start haunting me if I played too long. Is it just me or does it look like Aliens are slower than they used to be? And why can they see things through walls?

Yeah, the Aliens are somewhere between AvP 1 and AvP 2 speed. The in game explanation is that they use pheromones to track prey locations, so that's how the game handles it, you never used to be able to see through walls in previous AvP's.

Aliens travel faster than in AvP1 and 2 if sprinting, about the same speed if not.

I didn't play AVP2 but I was all over AVP1. So where's the predator gameplay? I don't want to wait until I get home and get it to work to see. Does cloaking still consume energy? Do you still have energy? Seems like all the predators that were around were cloaked until they attacked.

To be honest, the pred energy is still a little murky for me. You do still have it as you have to use the power stations to recharge, but I have yet to find myself running out of power as a pred.

You consume power when you fire the shoulder cannon, or any energy based weapons. Not sure about cloaking.

Alien controls were fluid in avp2, but I was so disoriented and confused in this new one.

Not to mention my computer nearly died playing the demo.

1-2 fps while running around different surfaces = puke

Your joking? How old's your PC?

well i just fixed my problem by lowering the gfx, i mnust say the controls in this are...very... different. also the delayed reaction when you move your mouse is just annoying. and the alien attacks are so slow D:

just tried this on my bros 360 cos the ps3 version still aint fixed but even then the matchmaking is still piss poor on 360 and I had 2 timeouts aswell >_>

All I can say is I'm rather confused primarily because of the melee system. I understand there is a rockpaperscissors mechanic but I don't have a clue how to do it and on top of that getting insta killed from behind while cloaked as a predator really pissed me off just cause I don't understand why I can be seen if i am invisible after all >_>

only one I was even decent at was marines (motion sensor is pretty tense :) ) but I don't wanna play marines I wanna play aliens and predator especially aliens but I can't cos I get my ass handed to me cos I don't know how to play this ****ing thing :flame:

my pre order is cancelled anyway I'll wait for it to drop to £20 otherwise

EDIT: I did forget to say I have said before but I ain't a MP guy so yeah but even then I'm going to go back and play the BC2 demo that kicked ASS!!! Again thats coming from a guy who doesn't play MP that often.

Melee works like this:

Block > Light attack
Light attack > Heavy attack
Heavy Attack > Block

You aren't invisible to aliens. They can see a red outline of you even if you're cloaked. It's somewhat misleading that aliens have "normal" vision like the humans; really, they're not "seeing" you, they're sensing you.

hmm ok i understand then why people can see me but thats kinda crappy that really only one of 3 species would not be able to see me while invisible :|

As for the melee k I get the ordering now but that means I'd have to go play and figure each species animation pretty much to then predict what move to counter with, in the midst of a fight I couldn't tell what moves they were using and I ended up just mashing the buttons :(

The old avp games never had a system like that right? I really wish that wasn't there and things like the wrist blades could just be treated like well normal melee weapons.

BTW yeah if aliens can see me while cloaked and they're already stealthy enough I have to therefore somewhat agree with the sentiment of them being kinda overpowered.

AvP1/2 combat was essentially counter-strike knife fights. Strafe in circles until you get close to the enemy.

AvP3 is brutal, merciless fights to the death. That's what the developers wanted. And it works. I am probably a bigger fan of AvP1/2 than anyone here, and even I realize the steps they had to take to make a new AvP game.

It's just too bad that they had to take a dump on the PC crowd and make it consoley.

It's all automated for the retard console kiddies. It's not challenging whatsoever nor are the classes balanced.

Run towards the enemy, press one button, kill! Yeah, some ****ing fun that is.

don't give up hope
Rebellion are a pretty loyal PC bunch and I'd be willing to bet that they will make a bunch of gameplay tweaks based on the community's feedback
if they haven't done so already (demo's an older build)

I still have hope that the single player carries the game, but based on the experience with the multiplayer and the videos from earlier in this thread it may be exactly the same problem: a non-stop Mortal Kombat fatality montage as you sneak up on every marine you find. I have to say, the first level of AVP1 as the alien had a whole ton of engaging strategy and suspenseful sneaking as you did your best to infiltrate the marine defenses despite the odds being against you (low HP, automated defense turrets, smartgun patrols). If they don't replicate that feeling in the new game I won't have any reason to play it :(

>AVP3 gets a 5.75/10 from Game Informer.

Bunch of MASTER RACE whiners in here. Having played it on both Steam and on console, you "Baww it's bad on the PC" fagets are just bad. Like I've heard all these crazy negative comments, and having played AvP1 and 2, and playing AvP3 on PC and PS3, I don't know what anyone's complaining about. I really don't.

Like all these "Run up and press one button to kill for console kids" comments...how much time did you guys even spend playing the demo? That shit never happens unless you've successfully snuck up on somebody or stunned them and maneuvered around for a TK. How are you going to "run up and press E to win" when you've got marines camping the round room protecting each others' weak points? YOU CAN'T. How are you going to "press E to win" when you're constantly being stunned by light attacks? Even in cases where you CAN get a TK, there's often the matter of whether you should or not...because TKs leave you wide open for someone else to come over while you're in the animation and fuck your shit.

And actually the melee is a little better on PC because if you've got a mouse with more than three buttons you can bind block to a single button, rather than M1+M2. Block --> counter tactics rape enemies' shit. You can bitchslap a predator to death as a marine like that. It's a lot easier than holding the two shoulder buttons on a console, just having a dedicated block button.

Speaking of which Ace, where the hell are you? You haven't been on PSN in months. You need to get the PS3 demo and come play this with me so we can be Preda-bros.

After fighting through some connection issues I played the demo for quite a while. It seems like a pretty good time but deathmatch free for all is very limited and that map is soooo laaaaaaame. I think that it will be a decent game but not one I'll buy straight off. I'll get it when it's cheapened. I think it will work like Far Cry 2 and drop in price in like 2-3 months.

As for the GI review, seems his review is full of examples not understanding the source material the game is based on
Having read that "review," it just further enforces my beliefs that most gaming journalists working in the industry today don't know what the fuck they're on about. It's bad enough that the majority of reviewers these days work freelance and are shipped games to beat and review in the shortest amount of time possible, prompting rushed, brief, and oftentimes inaccurate reviews, which is what I thought was happening here, but then I looked at this guy's profile. Ben Reeves is the ASSOCIATE FUCKING EDITOR of Game Informer. The associate editor of this rag churned out this review I wouldn't wipe my ass with.

Looking more at his info, it also just goes to show that no matter what degrees you have or how much you profess your love of video games, there's no accounting for taste. Or skill. Or having even researched the material beyond what looks to be regurgitated IMDB synopsis about the movies, which he has clearly never watched. "I don't understand why the predator is about stealth. Hunting? Is that where you run around screaming your head off charging at things?" "I get disoriented walking on walls as the alien because I'm a bad gamer. My stomach is also weak and I get motion sickness." "Fighting overwhelming alien hordes as a marine with a 'shitty' flashlight is no fun. Why can't this game be brighter and have less enemies? I don't understand tension. I have also never seen Aliens and have only heard the movie described to me (by someone who also did not watch Aliens)."

Fuck.

What a charmer you are.

Wow I better go dump £25 on this game then when the dull automated kills only happen when you're behind someone.

It's mindblowing the lengths that some desperate people will go to warrant their purchase of a shittastic game.

"Dull" is relative. If you happen to find tearing off a guy's head and removing his spine from his torso after successfully trailing him for several meters down a dim corridor "dull," then no, you shouldn't spend your money. If you find stabbing your tail through the chest cavity of an unsuspecting predator, dropping behind him after scrambling across the ceiling just out of the view of his alien vision "dull," then no, you shouldn't dump your money on the game.

If none of the other awesome factors of the game cannot outweigh your distaste for automated kills then I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't like stalking your enemies as a tech-laden predator, or HISSSSSSSSSing as you and your alien bros slink along the walls to pounce on bewildered enemies at frightening speed, and if you don't like teaming up with a group of marines who, despite being more frail than the other species, put up a damn good fight with what they've got, or if none of these factors can tip the scale away from "dull automated kills" for you, then no, don't dump your money on the game.

It's mindblowing the lengths that some desperate people will go to warrant their purchase of a shittastic game.
It's also mindblowing how some people will side with shitty reviewers in an attempt to justify their dislike of a game. Whatever your feelings are you should at least agree that the construction of the review and the points made therein are completely inane. The man criticized the predators for being stealthy, FFS. If nothing else you should at least acknowledge it was a bad review. He didn't even really speak much on the multiplayer. And he never even mentions your point of contention, the TKs.

There is a reason Darkside is on my ignore list. Quoting him only brings me pain. AVP3 does not interest me but then AVP has never interested me to begin with.

It's mindblowing the lengths that some desperate people will go to warrant their purchase of a shittastic game.

Mindblowing lengths? Have you actually read that review? Do you know anything about gaming? The guy who wrote that review knows nothing of either the AvP universe or FPS/action games in general.

Please explain why you don't like the game instead of the rather unconstructive "shittastic" or have you just jumped to that conclusion without actually playing it?
