When is the PC beta out?

Start drinking Dr. Pepper for DLC codes:

Also heads up people!

Beta Begins/Ends Jan 28th/Feb 25th for PC
Map Name Port Valdez
Players 32
Game Mode Rush
Environment Snow
Theme Vehicle and Infantry
Back Story The battle for Port Valdez is fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains. Using basically everything they've got the Russian forces are launching an airborne assault to knock out the oil industries in the area. In their arsenal there are Main Battle Tanks as well as fast-moving Quad Bikes and mobile armored AA. It's a vehicle focused battle, but with plenty of infantry combat.

Unfortunately they are sticking with Punkbuster for anti-cheat (I'm not sure which is worse, VAC or Punkbuster though) and there are no dedicated servers. You have to rent a server from a "trusted partner". http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61864

I can't wait for this game to be released, GOD DAMNIT. I'm probably going to get it for PS3 and PC.

No mod tools? Well, that is rather lame considering how big the mod community for these games is.

"Modern Warfare 2 doesn't have dedicated servers, Bad Company 2 will be way better"

Which means there will be dedicated servers available to play on, and not just hosted on some jackwad's computer. It also still leaves the option of having admins/moderators on the server with the ability to kick shitty players. The big let down here is that you'll have to pay for it. Its a backwards step taken in the right direction.

As I have mentioned before in this thread: the situation was exactly the same at the launch of BF2. The first few months you could only play on ranked servers from "selected partners". People have such short memories.

Yeah, there were still plenty of servers online for people to play on though, I'm sure there will this time around too :)

Looking forward to the beta :D

Rumours are circulating they are doing a Beta through Steam too, someone please post ways to get in on this when it gets leaked. I NEED YOU SO MUCH.

The Steam beta is sorta officially confirmed:

Steam Beta: Yes there was a leaked image of a Package file we propped on Steam. People with illegal accounts can see games in this environment, but this is not a Beta in the term of Public Test Beta, but a real development Beta installer client for the Steam version of the full game. We are however working with Steam to have the Public PC Beta available on Steam, but can't confirm this quite yet so cross your fingers Steam users. :)

You guys will have a blast. The ps3 beta was the most fun I had in awhile online. New map for PC too, kewl.

I seriously hope they reconsider putting mod tools in.

I agree. I've never had fun with a Console FPS before...and I LOVED that game.

You could host dedi non ranked servers back then surely? /shrug.

Been playing this shit out of the first game, SP and MP. CANNOT f*cking wait for this holy hell.

Not the first two or three months. And when they became available, noone wanted to play on them, because they didn't offer ranking so you couldn't score unlocks on there.

Bah my earliest memory of BF2 was winning the damn thing on a dedicated demo server on a LAN. Dedicated is very handy for multiple reasons with or without ranking. Wait and see I guess.

Nothing we didn't already know from the official blog which that summary links to ;)

Oh wait...do i have to preorder the game to get access to the beta?

If the process is similar to the previous beta, no. I managed to grab one from Fileplanet.

Not necessarily. Some selected sites will be giving out keys. I am waiting for the pre-order to become available on Steam.

Good god, that change log is SEXY. I cannot wait for this game so much more now.

Oh, so it's possible that a preorder won't be required? That would be nice.

Fixed the Knife's stab animation and improved the reliability of Knife attacks.

Heh, this is something I have yet to see them get right in any of their games that I have played.

Other than that, its nice when you hear about these changes, reminds you of what a beta is really for...

I keep reading mediocre scores for the first game.

They kept saying how poor the SP was, how the grainy look made the graphics look dated, and how the talks between the main characters wasnt funny and spoilt the mood.

SP was fun, the graphics are still great to look at, and I found the comedy between the characters was great. Sweetwater was hilarious at times. I dont understand, BF:BC was a great game. Not a 7/10 game. More like an 8 or 9.

Either way, BF:BC2 should be better in every way. Wonder if they did a Mw2 though; flick a finger to the SP and focus the majority of their effort on the MP.

I found 7/10 to be a pretty decent score for BF:BC. It's about how I felt while playing. Even with Multiplayer, I didn't feel like I was having all that much fun playing it.

7/10 isn't a bad score...that means it's above average, but hardly GOTY. Sounds just like BF:BC

I only played Bad Company SP, so can only speak about that. It was... OK, but after finishing it I wasn't really satisfied. 7/10 for the SP sounds about right. I enjoyed the humor, but the gameplay itself could use some tweaking.

The concept of your teammates spawning behind you when they lagged too far behind was a mechanism to counter AI inadequacies, but looked retarded. Walking over a damaged bridge, watching your dumb teammates just drop down into the valley and respawn behind you 2 seconds later was lame.

Oh good god, I remember that now. Yeah, that was quite silly.

gametrailers TV, or how we show off new footage in the first three minutes then continue repeating the same footage in edited/cut format to span out a 20 minute show.

The SP reminds me of Crysis in a way. Looks amazing though.

Glad they actually focused on the story. Or, atleast, made a potentially...investable story, one you think could be worth a playthrough.

Does look amazing. The graphics are pretty damn impressive.

F*ck yeah, been waiting for more SP info. Also, f*ck yeah Queens of the Stone Age in that trailer.

Been watching a lot of videos on this, looking really good. Probably on my top purchase list so far out of the 4 new games coming out. I'll have to see more though.

The Preorder offer is tempting.
