You press "R" to raise off the ground, "F" lowers you, W, S, A, D is to move around. Basically what you do spam the "Q" providing intel and getting spot points on enemies below. Look for tanks, etc and throw a missile at it.

When you fire, be sure to stay still. You want to also keep the crosshair on your target. The little orange square means that your reloading. Whatever you do, don't press the "E" key. You explode the UAV and have to wait again to use it. Also be sure to get as high as you can.

Man, the connection was SO much better this morning! I'm seriously considering getting this game :D
 
Am I the only one having trouble with the friends system? It simply doesn't work.



Also, I joined a 350 ping server, and it ran smooth. Woah.

I've sent a couple friends requests, but nothing else. There was an odd issue I had that had to do with friends earlier....

I added a friend while in game, then every time I'd go to talk to everybody, it would say something like "FRIENDS_NOT_EXIST_CHAT" or something weird like that. So, I couldn't talk to anybody. A close/reopen resolved the issue.
 
Friend system seems to work for me now. However, i need to create a new Soldier Name each time i play, otherwise it wont let me connect to any servers. Very strange.


Im deeply enjoying the game tho. Had an EPIC ORGASMIC moment. I was in a house and an enemy tank pulled up, started blowing chunks off the building trying to get me. Smoke, fire, explosions everywhere, im running backwards endlessly fireing at the tank, taking cover behind whats left of the destroyed walls. Finally i see the barrel pointing point blank at me "FFFFFUUUUU" i thought in my head and BOOOOOM. I was blown to dust.

I cried a proud gamer tear at that moment. This is awesome.

Just played a few rounds.

360 demo has less jaggies then the PS3 beta from what I can see. Prolly helps that the 360 demo supports 1080p whereas the PS3 beta only went to 720p. Colours seem slighlty darker too.

One thing I don't like is there is no ability to actually choose what squad to join (unless you join a friend's squad). Kept getting stuck with a squad of 3 snipers on offence Also, you can't manually make a squad either. The game just generates 4 squads with 4 vacant spaces each at the round's start. Still, you can make squads private and invite only so it's fine with friends.

Weapon balancing is very good imo. Assault rifles could be nerfed to have more recoil but overall I think it's great.

Another thing that I didn't like was the default land vehicle controls(RT to accelarate, LB to fire).

Also, I hope they implement some kinda manual voice comm. Dunno why they couldn't use one of the thumbsticks for this. R3/L3 to bring up the comm wheel like with mouse 3 in BF2.

2gb OCZ gold ram ddr2-800
sb live x-gamer
windows xp 32bit
no overclocking

runs smoothly at 1920x1080 and everything set to medium, 1xAA, 4xAF, vsync ON
 
I have been trying all last night and this morning/afternoon. No matter what I do, it refuses to connect to any server. Through the Play Now buttton, it says my connection is bad, try again. Every time. Through the server browser, it always says the server is full. Even if the server had reported eight players.

It's not a matter of "it's tough to get into a server;" it's impossible to.
 
The servers are overloaded. Have patience, they'll fix it eventually.
 
anyone else getting mouse lag with settings on high? it runs smooth but i can't play with that...kinda annoying
 
I've played a good few rounds now. Quite enjoying it so far. Sounds are great as mentioned many times and i quite like the pace of the game, not too fast, not too slow. It does run horribly though, regardless of settings. I wonder whether that is down to it being a beta, or it really does require a quad to get it running smoothly ?

I take it you're running Windows XP? I had that problem too, it's fixed in the latest beta build. Just run the Updater.exe and you should be good to go.
 
New Client Update:
A new BFBC2 PC Beta client is on its way.
Don't worry it is a new painless process and will not be a massive 1.4Gb download again.
Watch this space for information on fixes and how to go about getting the RC2 Client.

The RC2 contains the following fixes:

Front end:
Fixes server browser crashes. Server browser more resilient against corrupt online service data, and better support for large number of servers.
Several server browser ping issues resolved.

Windows XP stability:
Fixed crash on windows XP at end of round, exit game and display mode changes and.
Proper window style / mouse confinement when starting game maximized on XP .

Options dialog:
Mouse sensitivity setting gives more effect.
Mouse sensitivity loaded on game startup.

The update to RC2 will be 8.4Mb

When you next start BFBC2 you should get this message (Steam users can update through Steam). If you have trouble updating by running the game itself go to \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA and run BFBC2BetaUpdater.exe as Administrator.

Yay, good to hear. I thought i was the only one with the mouse sensitivity issue.

By the way, how do i check my ping? It's not displayed in the score tab. Unless i am missing something.
 
PROTIP: If you're having trouble with logging into a BC2 account, try removing symbols and numbers from the password.

I already updated my driver and DirectX but no change. First I get a black screen for a while, then it closes. :(

I would but the UK site won't me use my nickname (is taken, no such user exists, RIGHT) so. Besides EA person said they just read the UK site more often not that they ignore the NA on altogether.
 
Love me some Engineer. Can't hit helicopters for shit though. Guess that makes me a bad Engie.
 
I play Engie a shit ton also. Heli's are hard to hit to begin with. The only way I've been able to take one down is if I'm the Heavy tank gunner...

Also, got 8 knifes in a row on one of the games I played last night. It was when we captured the first or second point, and you have to go up the hill to get to two bombs in buildings. Well, I went the long way behind them, and just kept on knifing. Nobody ever even payed attention. They would run by me, which should have been a "OMG A BAD GUY KILL HIM", but nope...I chase and knife and keep going.

In the end, I dislike how they have the slight "Auto aim" when knifing. My aim goes all whack after a knife attack.

I'm running it on Windows 7 without any issues.
 
I'm on the combat testing beta, and hear similar problems. Before testing has begun. "How do I extract the installer?" "How do I use torrents?"

These individuals are meant to be beta testing this game. Stressing the game, exploring bugs, replicating them and reporting them using a mantis bug reporting system.

How they are going to do that when they can't read don't use the server browser, it crashes the game yet they try 20 times over. Fortunately there are some good testers in there, who are doing a really good job.

The majority of these people just want to play the game and have no ****ing clue how to do any of these things. MMO betas are infested with them.
 
for those having issues with performance, open up the settings.ini file in my documents/bc2beta folder
you can do things like disable bloom, force dx9 and more
helped my fps
 
For all of you guys using 8800GTs and a duo or quad processor, how is it faring? I expect it's running like butter on medium.

Also, any screenies?

I have a 8800 GTS and a quad core. Runs like champ with no slowdowns at 1680 x 1050 and medium settings.

In a more unrelated note, I think I'm going to purchase BFBC2 at the start of summer, I cannot be distracted during the school year.
 
Q6600 here, 8800GT - Running it at 1680 by 1050, high settings.

To force Dx9, do I set the DxVersion equal to 9, or 9.0c? Right now its DxVersion=auto
