February as you all know is black history month. I dont know how to put this ...as a white man ( :dozey: not that that matters in any way ) I feel any group/race/ethnicity's struggle against oppression should be remembered so that we can prevent it from happening again (although the same-sex marriage issue still proves we've changed very little)..."the more you know" and all that.
Ok so that sounds sorta high and noble but to me black history also means great documentaries on PBS :E ..watched a good one a few weeks back called Unforgiveable Blackness by Ken Burns about Jack Johnson and his struggle to be recognised as the first black heavyweight boxing champion of the world
besides watching documentaries, I'll be going to some events around town (live music, kids stuff etc) and I'll probably hit the bookstore sometime this week. What do you have planned (if anything) to recognise black history month
