Black Mesa Official Trailer Released

On the one hand, there is "no new thing under the sun" [Ecclesiastes 1:9!]

On the other hand, neither the bible nor the modern theory of Hyperreality are the source of IP laws or, for Valve at any rate, much profit.

There's no way they're going to please everyone, which is precisely why I'm not even going to bother reading the comments.

You typed text on a screen like they did in that Die Hard movie.

You can whisper your sweet nothings into my ear, as we both lie in our bunks in a federal prison.

That's what I'm talkin' about.

When I look down, I can see my feet.
I'm copying Halo!
You really are an idiot if you believe that copying the general idea of something and doing a purposeful remake of someone else's creative and copyrighted works is the same thing.

BMS will never be sold and it's foolish to think so. Valve owns Half-Life, the first part of their flagship project, they aren't going to let a third party Mod team anywhere near it officially. Frankly the attitude of "BMS deserves x" is the worst aspect to this Mod. Obviously not the fault of the Mod team who should be smart enough to already know that the best they can hope for is widespread popularity, critical acclaim and maybe the SteamWorks treatment.

Garry's Mod 10 does not prove otherwise, it's one of many mods (eg Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, Natural Selection) that gained popularity before crossing over into retail space. Unfortunately for the BMS team this option is unavailable to them, but BMS should look good on a resume.

The argument that it shouldn't be sold is unnecessary; it won't be sold.

Looks fantastic, will be downloading it when ever it releases. I got chills with the G-Man part, FYI. To those praying that they want to be able to throw money at BM:S dev's:

BM:S is not going to be anywhere near being sold, at best it will be at Steam as a free download like Insurgency, Synergy, etc. So shut up.

/facepalm

Whatever the case, I think the team could possibly be hired by Valve at some point. There's obviously quite a bit of creativity in the team, changing the environment as they have. They did it with Adam Foster.

Adam foster created one of the most original mods out there. By himself.

Oh gawd, talk about pointless fanboyism... "OMGZORS, I HAVE AN IRECCTION!!! DEY SHOULD CHARGE PEEPOLE FOR DIS GAME, ITS TEH PWN!"

Get over the fact that this game will NEVER cost money, or be released for the 360, or be bundled with a valve game. Its a mod, like any other, even though it looks extraordinary. but come on, we need to get back to planet earth here... Ill bet valve will release a news alert when it comes out, and put it on all source owners steam list, but thats about it...

This does look extremely well done for a mod, and i look foward to it though...

When a mod surpasses the production value and quality of 90% of the games out there, YES it deserves money.

If it's like $5 it might be worth it but anymore and i won't buy it. (well maybe at $10.) :p

They can't make money on a Valve product.
Donations though are exempt.

I personally would pay for what i saw in the trailer, I understand that some feel that way.
But only VALVE CAN sell Half-life, named Black Mesa or otherwise. So the only way BM can be sold is that Valve buys the mod or sell it under its name and share the profit with devs. Omitting the fact that such offer to devs will VERY hardly come, the devs don't have ANY LEGAL STATUS. They would have to start a company, get a way to share profit et cetera et cetera.
That would be very difficult and simply won't happen. There are 70 people involved, peole who left the mod, but their work is still used. Some of them are professional game developers already.
Devs have NEVER said or indicated that they would want to sell the game. They are not stupid and they are happy that Valve lets them to go on.
The best way to show your appreciation is to spread the word so a lot of people will play the game.

Yeah holy shit, that's pretty much the pinnacle of creativity! Updating old maps!

See, SEE, SEE I'M NOT ****ING CRAZY IN THAT LAST BM:S THREAD, THE LOATHERS ARISE! DON'T DENY IT! COME ON!!!

Where's the hate? I'm just sarcastically pointing out some idiocy.

I can't believe my eyes when I read the posts about "deceiving".
The trailer is deceiving you INTO WHAT??? Into buying it so you will regret later buying the game that will not look as flashy as in the trailer?
It's a MOD for god's sake.
They are not obliged to do anything.
They can release completely prerendered trailer if they want.
They can postprocess the trailer as much as they want.
They don't have to release any trailer.
They can't deceive you into anything!
Everyone can express their opinion about the quality of the trailer (or the mod) but talks about 'deceiving' are downright stupid.
All I can see is that some people just can't swallow the attention the mod gets.
I think about sour grapes.

Well you're half right.

If this starts turning into another "fanboys vs haters" thread, you know where it's going to go.

The problem is that the hate can be imagined if the last thread is anything to go by...

If people want to make things up purely in order to prolong an argument, then they will be banned as trolls and the thread will be closed/deleted. Them's the rules.

Now carry on with more enlightening and wonderful Black Mesa discussion!

Looking forward to the snark spamming. Hell yeah.

Firstly, I haven't play the game.
You have neither.

So neither of us know if the game is simple "updating the old maps" or it is more a reimagination, as devs claim.

Secondly remaking something doesn't mean that you don't put your creativity into it.
A lot of famous films are remakes. John Carpenter's The Thing for example.

You obviously don't like the mod and you are bashing it obviously, lacking arguments,
calling it "Pointing out OTHER people idiocy".

This mod can be utter crap, but can be very good.
I personally look forwward to it.

Remakes are uncreative. Just because a film is famous doesn't make it creative. And just because something isn't creative doesn't necessarily mean it won't be enjoyable.

Why do you think I don't like the mod? Because I'm not uberhyped? I'm quite looking forward to it actually, I simply don't think it's gonna cure cancer or resurrect John Lennon and I don't consider it to be particularly creative.

So it's finally coming out? Nice trailer. Listening to the soundtrack on the website now and I must say it's really good.

Remakes are uncreative. .

Well, it's a very categoric opinion.
There is a wide variety of remakes. Sticking to games, you can add more polygons to the models and add more detailed textures,
(not very creative, but still is a lot of work from which I will benefit. so I personally would restrain any derisive comments)
or completely redo the game that only story rougly resembles the original, which hardly can be labeled uncreative.

BM will probably go somewhere between those two extremes.

Someone lock it already.

Actually, remaking something is quite creative in its way. I feel in fact that the Black Mesa Mod started out a lot more ambitious in that respect, but it shit-stormed when people didn't think it was being 'faithful' enough, and now we're largely getting a High-Def copy of the original.

Looking forward to the snark spamming. Hell yeah.
There are a bunch of old HL2 weapons that I'm looking forward to seeing in the Source Engine.
I'm also looking forward to using BMS's content in GMod.

now this looks ****ing impressive.

Only negative I can think of:

Freeman is too ****ing ugly, man. Look the cover from hl2, he is supposed to be sexy as hell. He is no "ordinary guy who saves the world" he is "super handsome and sexy badass superhero". Re do that model. Even if you don't agree with my point of view, that gordon is simply too, ****ing, ugly.

Too much arrogance. What, redoing the whole half-life? arrogance. They should have stick to maybe doing a hl1 ispired, shorter mod.

Anyway let's be clear, the dudes who are working on this have more talent than I can possibly hope to have... this look ****ing impressive....

Someone please lock this thread >.<

Although, the trailer looks good by the looks of it some of the members have some talent :)

There is no Freeman model in the trailer.

Edit: And test, everyone here is gay for Gordon and you know it.

The question is if Gordon Freeman is visible in the cutscenes in the actual game. I highly doubt that devs decided to breake Valve rule not to show GF and not to break the first person view. I coud be a placeholder only for the trailer.
My ocomplains are common: crowbar animation and 'dead' tentacles
