Got ma braces put in today. I'll never forgive the ****s.

Well yeah, 2 years

Not so bad yet though. Kept saying how it'd hurt, and so far it doesn't at all. Just feels like there's a loaded rubber band around my teeth.

I somewhat wish I had of got braces when I was younger, but my teeth are quite acceptable now so whatever.

The only thing I can say is congratulations, because I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

I had them for a good 2 years, they will ache like **** once your teeth start to realign and whenever you get the rubber bands replaced.

They're not bad at all, just remember to get an interdental and clean inbetween your teeth thoroughly.
I'm having jaw surgery some random time to get rid of my underhang on my lower jaw. Damn Brit genes.

They will hurt. I'm not lying. When they put on the devil's torture device (read: power bands), don't expect to eat anything aside from mashed potatoes and jello for at least two days. Buy some of that brace wax, too. If not you'll have cuts in the side of your mouth when the wire sticks out.

For me:
I had a lisp for the entire first day I had them
The next day the lisp was gone but my mouth hurt like hell
The day after I was fine and experienced very few problems from then on

Overall, the thing that hurt most was getting them taken out.

I need braces too...I couldn't have them when I was younger. I'm 21, appearances are very important in my line of work and I need to get braces - not good. Not good at all.
Then again, the alternative is to have teeth like my late stepnan. Sign me up!...

Had mine for about 6 months, but i didn't take care of my teeth properly. Was a pussy and i brushed really shit, the hurt me a fair bit D:

I had braces and got them off, wasn't that bad for me at all, I just didn't like the PUTTING THEM ON part. The first day or two I couldn't eat at all, my mouth was so sore, so I just slept a lot :O

Because i'm finding that this one wire occasionally gets hitched on my cheek, and when I yawn or something after it's gotten hitched, it digs straight into my cheek.

Is that what this wax shit will stop? Because really, that's the only pain i'm experiencing atm :\

You're supposed to put the wax on the little anchor bits/on the braces themselves.

The only thing that ever really hurt with mine was this one time when I had a Nazi orthodontist tighten them twice as much as they usually did.

Never felt the need for wax.

I mean, I've never needed braces, or a retainer, or even a filling, but... well, when I go to the dentist, and she scrapes my teeth with that metal stick, it really freaking hurts! If the ends of the wire are bothering you you should get the ends of 'em clipped or something. I had the bastard who put mine in do it during an appointment because he didn't do it to start with like he said he would.

Feel sorry for you Sinko. I had braces for 2 years and am now in the retainer phase, wearing it every other night. Braces suck. You're lucky to not have pain yet. Every time you get them tightened it will hurt for a couple days. At times, when my entire mouth was just throbbing, I felt like screaming and running around. There's nothing you can ****ing do about it, you can't even grit your teeth in pain, for that would just make it worse obviously.
And once you get them off, and have a retainer (I'm assuming) it will hurt when they make adjustments to that. Also, when you are in an on/off schedule with it, it will hurt when you put them in after having them off.

I never really used wax while having braces. But right now I have two canker sores resulting from my retainer digging into the side of my mouth. They hurt like a bitch and make eating or even drinking (any jaw movement) a gross misadventure.

But I was like "do the letters F.O. mean anything to you?" to the dentist every time. if I had gotten them it would have been for cosmetic reasons, no real issue. I have to agree with pitz though, boner-ville on girls with grills.

Who the hell would not do what the orthodontist says, after enduring several years of hell to get where you are? Just because you now have control over whether or not they are in your mouth doesn't mean you have the privelage of taking them off when you want to. I don't understand your logic: "Ok let's pay thousands of dollars to have these metal things in my mouth that hurt like hell for a couple years, then let me risk ****ing all of that up, wasting time and money, because I'm too much of a pussy to wear a ****ing retainer"

Because you know way the hell more than a professional orthodontist does about your teeth, that he or she has been working on for several years. Yeah his plans are probably wrong, after 4 years of braces that should be enough. He obviously knows nothing and the whole retainer thing is just pointless.
