Braces

The one concern I have with my brace that I forgot to ask the orthodontist (and this definitely isn't your normal concern; I can guarantee that no one else has ever had this concern): will I still be able to wear vampire fangs (for my 18th birthday party, I'm not like a really weird person who wears fangs all the time (although that would be pretty cool :D)).

I've had my braces since 2nd grade, and I'm in 9th grade now

7 FRIGGIN YEARS!

:edit: oh, and headgear...

and 6 six teeth taken out...

I need'm but I really don't want them. Maybe the invisible kind but those cost double.

Point of interest for some of you: Up until the age of 8-9 I didn't brush my teeth at all. Seriously. Maybe when my mom yelled at me before a big thing (like eating out or something, things we did rarely), then I'd brush them (poorly), which led to me brushing my teeth maybe a total of like 5 times a year (poorly..). At the age of around 10 I started brushing them about once a day, and at the age of 13 or so, I started brushing them when I woke up and when I went to bed (2 times a day). I still brush them 2 times a day, and I still don't floss as much as I should.

I was at the dentist 3 days ago, and I got a new doctor (who was actually very hot, first hot dentist I've ever seen, and she was smokin, my old dentist can go to hell if it means switching for this chick), she told me my teeth are perfect. I've had 1 small cavity in my whole life (when I was about 10), and that's it. No other problems, not with my gums or teeth. My teeth are even white, too!

How's that for lucky, eh?

It makes me feel good that, if our technology disappeared somehow, and we were forced back to a stone age, my teeth would be good for a long while. It made me so happy that she said my teeth were perfect, those were her exact words. It was a good day - hot dentist, perfect teeth, got a haircut. Nice.

Everyone in my family had braces at the age of 14-17. I'm turning 17 in a few months.

Yeah, they gave some but it took a while for me just to work out how have the bloody stuff stay on!!! Got it sorted now and it seems to be doing the trick; the wire's stopped catching but it's already raised up quite a lump, like a small mouth ulcer. Actually just pressing the wax on made my teeth ache a bit but it doesn't ache from the wire. The wire feels a bit tight but comfortable. That probably sounds pretty mad!!

yeah, you'll probably have quite a few painful cankers on your bottom lip for a while. in terms of wak, its best to dry off your teeth, get the wax cold in water, and have your fingers wet.

I have the invisible braces. They work wonders. My teeth used to be incredibly spaced but perfectly straight. I never really need braces. My teeth just look better with the spaces completely closed.

Anyhoo, I'm on like set 23 out of 30ish. Its actually amazing how well they work. You go to your orthodontist every, let's say, 2 months. He gives you 2 months worth of trays for top and bottom. You wear a set of trays for 2 weeks then switch to a new one. The first 2-3 days usually hurt, but I've found if you soak them in warm water, they loosen enough to have them not hurt as bad as a fresh, just opened set.

Also, Invisalign isn't that much more. I think compared to regular braces it was maybe 300-400$ more. Very worth it to me. I have clean teeth all the time because of them, too.

Go Invisalign!

Tell me about it.. :dozey:

I've been looking into braces and Invisalign. Wish I had done it 10 years ago.

Invisalign is perfect. I swear you'll never be disappointed with them.

Get them.

Now.

Why are you still waiting here?!

GO!!

I remember looking into invisalign before I started with my braces, but with my dentist the price difference is pretty steep over 1000 even I think. I wish it was only 300-400 more D:

I think I could convince my parents with the fact that you'll actually be able to clean your teeth by taking invisalign off.

you jerk... ;(

I wish I were you... teeth wise

Well, I'm sure I've got some kind of damage to my teeth because of my grinding.. I have to wear a mouthgard when I sleep because I grind so much.. For a normal person it's supposed to make your jaw very sore when you grind your teeth during sleep, but they tell me I've been doing it my whole life (clenching EXTREMELY hard, grinding something fierce, too.. I grind my teeth during the day, but not nearly as hard), so my jaw never hurt, the only reason I noticed anything was that all my front teeth were kind of loose (you wouldn't even really notice it, one day I was bored and started wiggling my front top tooth, and noticed it was slightly loose, it jiggled back and forth probably 1/4-1/2 millimeter, then I tested all my other front teeth, same thing, so I jsut told the dentist and got a mouthgard a few days later).. So atleast you get a more comfortable sleep then me (although you get kinda used to it), and you don't have to wake up, take the thing out of your mouth and taste the nastiest spit ever (people with retainers can tell you about that, I've been told..)

2 years of braces so far for me and 2 top teeth pulled. I think I'm getting them off later this year (i'll be 16) then 4 or so years of retainers. I can't say i've ever really had big problems with braces in terms of pain but I'm getting rubber bands soon. Who was it that called them the turture devices :(?

I've had mine for bloody years now. There was a period right in the middle where I had them off for a single blissful year, but then my ortho took one look and was liek "Man, your teeth have grown. Time to wear the metal!" and I was all "No!" and now I've got like chainsaws for teeth.

Yeah there's nothing worse than a sadistic orthodontist. They have so many weapons of torture at their disposal..

I was told as a kid that I didn't need braces. **** that. I have teeth like a ****ing horse. At least, I think so anyway. I got soooooo much shit growing up for my gaps/overbite, so now I have issues with smiling. If I'm grinning in a photo, I think the photo is ruined and I hate it. Also, my two front teeth have a tendancy to dig into my bottom lip, causing sores.

But I'm rather poor, with no dental insurance, and I also have some huge cavities. :/ What should I do? My wisdom teeth are slooooowwwllllyyy coming in...

Thank God I didnt have to have them, there was a chance when I got 4 or so teeth pulled that were in the wrong places, but thankfully the others just went into place afterwards

Man, my teeth were killing when I woke up this morning. I couldn't even eat to have have breakfast. I had about three cornflakes and that was it. Chewing was so painful cos my teeth were still aching and I couldn't use my molars to chew because I still have the wax on the wires so my cereal kept sticking to it. I'm going to have to have liquid breakfasts like yogurt drinks and smoothies for the first few days (or weeks, probably). I just never thought having a brace was such a pain in the ass (well, pain in the mouth really!).

Edit: Going off on holiday now. See you next Wednesday!!! :D

Braces suck. Liberate your teeth and let that beautiful smile flourish!

I had braces and they did me wonders. Also have 2 sets of wisdom teeth removed which was joyful. Just hang in there, it's worth the discomfort in the end.

Oh boy kat, just you WAIT till they give you the rubber band treatment.

It's pain all over again, and this time it won't stop hurting after a week or two. It will just hurt whenever you have the bands on, doesn't matter how long they've been on for...

Yay...

I was supposed to have mine for two years, but got them out three months in advance :D They were removed last August. It's worst in the beginning, then you get used to it. And once they're gone, you won't regret having them. It's worth it.

Bullshit, the rubber bands don't hurt at all. (Although it is difficult eating with them in the start, but you get used to it.)

I should be getting mine off in early June. It's a pain in the ass to be 20 and have them. I'd like to forget the mornings when I'd wake up to discover a new cut on the inside of my lip.

My brace has now started to hook both corners of my mouth at the same time and part of the wire is slicing into my mouth like a razor blade. This is very painful and very, very annoying!!! :frown:

I'm getting my braces off on the 16th \o/
Yay me.

At the moment I just wanna rip the damn brace off my teeth. But I can't, unfortunately.

lol, it's a braces noob thing.

Eventually your whole mouth will turn into a huge fleshy callous, and you'll never have trouble with wires stabbing your cheeks.

you will not feel anymore pain from the braces after the first two months, because you'll be dead.

Great. Thanks, Sinko, that's really comforting. I feel so much better now knowing that!!! :cheese:

Good for you, Sheepo. I'll get mine off in probably 23 months and three weeks. So I have just a little bit longer than you.

Lets see. Since I have Invisalign, my time scale for braces is a bit different. However, I get my top set done with at the beginning of July I think it is, and then the bottom set will be done mid-September.

It's true, though. I still have flaps of skin on the inside of my mouth from the wires cutting so deep. They healed up, but, like I said, there's just thick flaps of skin.
