Beijing secretly fires lasers to disable US satellites

China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites by "blinding" their sensitive surveillance devices, it was reported yesterday

The document said that China could blind American satellites with a ground-based laser firing a beam of light to prevent spy photography as they pass over China.

According to senior American officials: "China not only has the capability, but has exercised it." American satellites like the giant Keyhole craft have come under attack "several times" in recent years.

Although the Chinese tests do not aim to destroy American satellites, the laser attacks could make them useless over Chinese territory.

The American military has been so alarmed by the Chinese activity that it has begun test attacks against its own satellites to determine the severity of the threat.

Viet Nam was a steaming pile of shit, no matter how you look at it. Cuba we never invaded. I assume you're talking about the whole Bay of Pigs dealio. That was a CIA operation involving 1,500-something-ish Cuban exiles. I don't even think any Americans took part, directly, in the failed coup. Iran? Sure we've done some stuff over there, but the only thing that comes right to mind is the failed rescue attempt of the hostages at the American Embassy and the debacle at Desert One. Grenada, that was all about rescuing hostages, American med school students if I remember correctly. Somalia was essentially a peacekeeping effort that turned into an attempt to remove the warring clans that were starving the entire country from power. Afghanistan was about removing the Taliban from power and finding Bin Laden. The Bush administration's distracted the american people from our failure to find him by starting the whole thing with: Iraq. Nothing good has come from Iraq, except deposing Saddam. It doesn't look like much, if anything else good will. It's turning into another Viet Nam, (obviously that's a bad thing) and we should be getting the **** out.

The way I see it, if those satellites are spying on China, they're probably above China - so the Chinese have every right to do what they want with them. Sometimes I shine my military-strength green laser into the sky in the hopes of bringing down planes and UFOs.

it's a public unveiling of an act of espionage (on a massive scale) ..usually a tell tale sign of an unspoken cold war ..both superpowers use each other to determine numbers in for arms production. They're starting (or have been since late 80's) to counter each other in an open arms race ..espionage just helps level the playing field
