Cliffe: "de_dust will support 20 vs 20"

player limits have always depended on the map, even in HL1. some maps dont have enough room for spawn points for 20 vs 20
for example, i remember when dust had a patch released to enable more players a few years ago

I can only imagine how long rounds will take with 20v20 campfests.

That's insane! those maps AREN'T meant for 20vs20, imagine the chaos! 10 people going through the tunnel, 10 through the building
 
Dude that's perfect! OMG I CANT WAIT. Just imagine, you have 2 or 3 CT snipers at base on the roofs. A few guarding/rushing under bridge. A few guarding other entrances...that'll be sooo sweet.
 
I wouldnt worry about the max players. I'm sure that not every server will be running with the max players, so you dont have anything to worry about.
 
there's gonna be a definate camping problem and don't you think the round timer should be increased?
 
i guess more than 40 people and u start spawning on peoples heads like in quake 3.
 
I love haveing the games with like 40 people its awesome...
only cuz i own tho! =D

That depends on how many spawn points each map has.
 
30 ppl is even to much for cs.

i think 20 ppl is perfect
 
its only 8 more than it currently allows in cs.
cool but it wont make an enormous difference... its only 4 more players on each side.
 
bah! i don't think counterstrike is the sort of game in which more players is better. usually i love lots of players in games but for counter strike, i prefer 5v5 or 8v8
 
It all focuses on info_player_start and info_player_deathmatch. Start = CT, Deathmatch = Terrorist.

There are 20 of each on Dust. On aztec, there could be 32 for each.

On scoutzknivez I think theres only about 15 or 16, then players start spawning on each other and getting killed.

If anything matches will take less time with 40 players. But yes i think it is too many players, 30 maximum in my eye.

Whats it going to matter? You shoudl be able to kill an AWP pretty easily I'm guessing on CS Source..thats my opinion..

i agree.
20 vs 20 would be a pain to sit through.. especially considering all the camp fests that go on in CS.

larger player limits suit better in DM/TDM situations.
 
Anyone think that maybe they increased the size of the map to accomodate 20v20, rather than keeping it exactly the same?

Im going to be pretty pissed at Valve if they dont make trhe Awp scope different, for instance when in scope mode the sight moves slightly with your breathing etc as it happens in Call of Duty. Awp would be too good in a 40 player map, think about 2 awp guys looking down a corridor with 10 men running through it, all dead dead dead dead d e a d . . .

That probably won't happen.

20 vs. 20 will be alright in my opinion. Only 4 more on each side. Any more than that would be evil though.
 
Sorry if someone mentioned this, but how are the servers supposed to handle 40 Players?

Some servers can't handle 32, on the OLD engine...

Then those severs won't be able to handle as many. The servers that CAN handle more can up the player limit if they wish.
 
The netcode is supposed to be better. More efficient use of information to use less data for more objects etc.
 
Well, there was a post by Gabe here that showed how CS:S requires only slightly more bandwidth per player than regular CS/CZ.
 
The reason many servers lag with a lot of users is because after a certain point it used a lot of CPU cycles to keep track of those extra players. It supported up to 32? but the natural supported limit was around 18 I think.

I really like 16 player servers. Getting closer to 20 and above and I feel like I'm just in a mob.
 
LoL u guys talking shit,i played on 40 players servers and i never had lag and my ping was 30-50,so i think that there will be servers that can handle 40 players,don't make so many noise on this game.

If you are claiming you played 40 player CS then, my dear fellow, it is you who is talking shit.

If it is another game, then that is a useless comparison as all games/engines have different netcods/network usages.

i think you need to do some more math/ 2 awpers take out 10 guys rushing with machine guns and pistols? rofl. hahahaahahaahahahaahahaahaaaahaha
