Ok, so I made this thread because I fluttered myself up when reading post such as: "boooo, stalker/doom3/etc has lot better graphics/nicer dynamic lightning/etc and HL2 sux/HL2 will be crap/HL2 etc" FORGET THE GRAPHICS, MORONS, its not the graphics that will make HL2 a milestone!
Play Call of Duty if you don't know what I mean!

I feel your pain. The story is the key. That's what I'm waiting for most.
 
Gameplay is Super Fantastic #1!

But I'm also a really big fan of HL2's graphics, even compared to Stalker/Doom3/etc. It's not so much the "quality," but the style that I like. So of course I'm going to defend it.

agreed....doom 3s style has been done to death........

stalkers enviroments as good or better than hl2.....but the models and alot of the textures.....and even the "fit and finish" factor are very lacking.


HL2 still pwns the competition Dile......but not by a big margin.
 
I'm not saying that graphics will be bad, I'm saying that it's not important at all when determining how good HL2 will be, so all this comparing the graphics makes no sense.

EDIT: I don't wanna explain anything, go play Call of Duty, and find out what makes it awesome.
 
I played the Call Of Duty demo. i tihnk it crap personally, crappy on rails shooter. And the AI is REALLY BADLY on rails, they all take cover in the SAME POINT EVERY TIME, yawn yawn yawn.

ALSO........Doom3.......in my opinion, take a REALLY close look at the character models, ESPECIALLY the humans, CRAP, not very realistic at all, why is there skin all shiny like they are wet, and all smooth.

Stalker, same again, the character modles are so 'last gen' , sure they look OK, but looks like piss poor poly counts and crappy skin/eyes etc.

I'm not a Half Life fanboy, far from it. My favourite game on the PC is Operation Flashpoint, not any of that half life counter strike plop.

That's because it's all scripted.
 
And that sucks. At least give them SOME freedom. Operation is the greatest military game ever, and has some of the best AI ive seen in any game, past or present.

This is why half life 2 will be so good, the AI, realistic characters and there interaction with the player and the environment. And the few scripted parts, as valve said, wont 'feel' scripted to heavily.
 
COD is a perfect example Dile.
Graphics are outdated by some standards.
Rocks anyway.
The gameplay is excellent, and I've played the demo and the game enough to know that they don't take the same cover everytime, nor does the same thing always happen, simply because every encounter has been scripted multiple times to happen different ways.

Remember the game named Half-Life?

The AI in call of Duty is not bad, but scripts move the events forward.

So if graphics dont matter at all, it wouldnt bother you if HL2 looked like Wolfenstein 3d then?

Get real. Graphics are a major part of any game, and as far as I'm concerned, from what we've seen, HL2 has nothing on Stalker or Doom3. Sure it will still be a good game, but the graphics are not up to scratch.

That and the completely linear game play. But, the action is awesome and the AI is great. At some points it does seem like all the AI is ducking for cover at the same time, but that's because they tend to duck when there's a large amount of fire comming their way. If there's more than one in an area that's being sprayed with bullets, they will duck out harms way in unison. They also pop out and shoot when the incomming fire becomes less concentrated. Brilliant.
 
Hla fLife is 5 years old though, and yer developers are STILL immitating it. Call of Duty (again just my opinion) is just another of these imitations. The whole 'feel' is so cramped that every single encounter feels heavily scripted, rather than actually just a little script to move things along.

Half Life 2, as Half life did before it will set the standard for the way games will be made. Dont forget half life 1 wasnt exactly cutting edge graphics tech at the time.

Time will tell, but for my taste too many cerebal defficient games out there, too samey, too linear, maybe im just a cynical 23yr old. But Operation Flashpoint still owns ANY war game you care to mention, and again, that aint got the very best visuals.

Its ALL about THE GAME. (not how it looks)

That's the problem here, some people still believe that only good graphics, story, etc make a game good..
 
The only people that couldn't give a crap about graphics are consolers.

And I'm not saying that just to bamdth47, but to everyone here.

Rather I'd say its usually the other way around. Consoler players know that a console is the way to usually get the best graphics for their cash.
And I have fewer console games that have bad gameplay and pretty graphics than PC titles.
You know what makes a game good? If its fun. CoD is fun. HL was fun. I'm sure HL2 will be fun.
 
I didnt say graphics make a good game, but saying they dont matter is absoolutely rediculous. Face it, you would be pissed off if you bought HL2 and, even if the gameplay was absolutely awsome, all f the enemies were sprites and the environments looked like Duke Nukem 3d.
 
I don't think we're the least bit concerned about that though...as long as graphics are within the current generation its perfectly fine.
 
Well personally I would prefer amazing graphics and good gameplay. I dont see why graphics should be compromised just because the storyline is awesome.

I'm sorry I didn't make an exception for people that enjoy gaming but don't have the bills to spill for a PC. I also believe that PC games tend to be a lot more complex in gameplay than console games on average. And don't bother throwing out some complex console games, I've played plenty of Xbox, GC, and PS2 games(my roommates have all three systems and I used to work at Blockbuster, I've played a ton of console games). I know how primitive console games are, don't bother trying to convert me.

EvilEwok is like Arnold in the Termintator series. The first time around he was a real d!ck, so he got terminated. Then the second one seemed like he was gonna be a d!ck like the original, but he turned out to be ok.
 
Sorry, rec I was a lil bit...angry then, I'll try to explain the situation more understandably now...

So what made Call of Duty cool?
Was it Graphics? No.
Was it AI? No.
Was it physics? No.
Was it the story? No.
What was it then?

It was the amount of work that Infinity Ward has done to the game to make it unforgetably good. To make you want to play every single mission again, just because all of them are f**king awesome.
I hope you know what I mean.

I believe that with later HL2 and now Call of Duty, the graphics and such things will lose importance, and developers will concentrate on making the game a very cool experience, and we will forget complaining about what is better gfx,etc.
This can be the next generation of gaming, and I believe and hope this will be it.

Hope you understand...

Was it just me or did anyway else not like Call of Duty. It's almost the exact same game as MOH, only you are in different missions, on different teams.

The game looks exactaly like MOH too, bad. The explosions for one, are horrible, and the sounds for the weapons are very weak.

The developers turned a rated R situation (WWII) into a G game.
 
Where can I DL the CoD demo? I wanted to try it out, but never bothered looking for the demo
 
I thought Omaha Beach level was amazing in MOH, but that's it. CoD gives me that same feeling everywhere.
