Here's a place to post some of your irrational fears. Things that you don't think you really should be afraid of, but can't help but be.

For me... I have an irrational fear of the dark and things that are out to get me, which stems from my childhood.

I'm not afraid of the dark so much, as I am of my highly overactive imigination that makes me think there's something monstrous lurking around in the darkness that wants to scare the hell out of me and who knows what else.

I know its silly, since i'm adult, but for some reason I have never grown out of that fear yet. Sometimes when I wake up in my house, and walk out to the kitchen in the relative darkness, I can see out of the corner of my eye the panoramic window into the backyard, and I envision an evil clown or something peering in at me, or things talking to me from the shadows or from such places as through the sink, or showerhead, etc. Most of these things I think started to happen after I watched The IT back when I was a wee kid.

I don't actually see or hear these things, but I imigine it as if I did, and it scares the crap out of me for some reason, and I always feel the hair on the back of my neck raising as if I were being watched or followed.

Crazy huh?

Whenever I go somewhere that is supposed to be haunted I get a cold shiver. This makes no sense since I think ghosts are absolute bullshit.

not me, but one of my freinds is terrified of bananas. He just cant stay in the same room as them.

Living alone and hating paying for power I've lost all fear of the dark, what scares me most now is seeing stupid parents with kids riding in shopping cards wrong. One time I saw a 2 year old fall 3 feet onto his head because his stupid ass father was letting him ride on a telivision box in a shopping cart. The box shifted, and he fell. The sound of a skull hitting concrete hard is one of the worst there is, and unfortunatly I've witnessed it 3 or 4 times. I'm always afraid of seeing other people do stupid shit and get hurt, I'm not all that squemish after the fact, and I dont mind doing dangerous stuff myself, I just get very nervous.

Also spiders.

I'm clostrophobic :( Not badly though, it's very controllable.

Elevators i'm fine getting in to, but if they were ever to break down on me i'd probably go crazy.

I also hate small rooms that have no windows, or windows that are too small for me to fit through. Even though I never actually climb through windows, it's like my subconcious is always looking for escape routes.

I am 100% same as you.

Octopuses, squids, and other molluscs. They freak the living shit out of me. I can't look at them. I can't be near them. It's difficult for me to enter sea water when I know that they exist in the ocean. I have nightmares about them.

I've sat in aquariums, in rooms with the things. I'd position myself at the end of the room, just watching the glass from afar, seeing how much of it I could take. My hands went all clammy, I was rigid, and my mouth was agape with horror. When an octopus finally began moving around and swimming upwards, its legs spread out all over the place, I ****ing cracked. I started loudly mumbling incoherent babblings and rocking back in forth. I ran out of the place, but that still didn't stop me from being the most paranoid I have ever been for the rest of the day. Any movement out of the corner of my eye freaked me out. I refused to be near walls, because I feared I'd turn around and be face to face with one. Later that day, people ordered kalimari. I went outside and vomited in the bushes and stayed outside, shivering out of discomfort and with my appetite lost.

That was just last year.

People used to chase me around with pictures of them. I hate those god damn things.

The fear of losing the one thats so dearly close to me.

yeah, losing my PC is a fear of mine too. :p

That gave me a good laugh.

But no not talking about the PC. :p Actually I feel like grabing a metal bat and hitting it right now.

I also have an irrational fear of deep bodies of dark water, including swimming in lakes, or in the ocean. I fear that there's something beneath the waves that is going to get me.

Not to be rude, but that was one of the funniest things I've read in a while. I'm sorry you have that fear, but man that was funny.

I don't have any overwhelming irrational fears I don't think. I have a touch of claustrophobia and I don't like open water either. I fear being stranded in the middle of the ocean just bobbing with the waves struggling to keep my head above water. The thought that some large sea creature could come up and take a bite out of me. Imagine being swallowed by a blue whale or something. *shudders*

Umm... being in the dark? No, wait... that's pretty rational, I reckon... I've read lots of stuff on aliens and anomalies... and there's far too much of them for them to all be fake. And they usually happen at night.

Er... how about falling down? Oh, wait again... I'm unco, so that's thouroughly rational.

Um... oh, I know: I have a fear that someday Friggy will find out that I bad-mouth him online. And that's pretty irrational, because he can't read English, and shows no signs of ever being inclined to learn.

I have that too, I am always afraid something in the ocean is going to kill me....lol...

I have the exact same fear, although I still swim in lakes and oceans every year. It always feels like something is watching me and getting ready to bite my feet since they are always the part of me deepest in the water. Occasionally something like a piece of weed will touch my feet and then I will get really scared.

meh i swam out to rocks wich were really far out to see thru really deep water i had a mask on and it was fun looking down and not knowin what was there but yeah!

I am 100% with raziaar espechiaplly if i watched nething remotly sketchy on tv i get freaked out when i turn of the lights to sleep thinking what is there in that corner,

Are you saying the drugs made you extra paranoid?

What's a spliff, that marijuana slang?

I am afraid of

a. Change
b. Leaving the house :p
c. looking stupid
d. the dark
e. not being medicated
f. being alone

I have major anxiety problems :p thats why I take Xanax and SSRI's :p

A spliff is a joint, I believe.

Some friends of my mum used to have a cat called Spliff. They were major Wacky Tobaccy fans, and the cat used to climb up and sit between them when they were smoking on the couch. Apparently, Spliff was a stoner too... used to sit there, blitzed out of his little kitty mind, staring into space...

OMG give me some Xanax. I need to chill.

Anyway, I'm afraid of insects indoors.

It's weird and irrational, insects don't bother me when I encounter them outside, only when they get inside do I have a problem with them.

Poor cat. Its bad enough people use drugs, but to allow their dogs and cats to get high too. I'm sure if they had the choice, they wouldn't want to be.

Well they tend to enhance what ever is going through ur mind..... BTW im not pro drugs anymore.....just say no kids.....

Fish...im terrified of fish...i have never touched a fish my whole life..fishes are discusting.. :)

Im pretty much with Raziaar on this one, but i dont mind the dark...and i like swimming in the ocean and that, just i dont want to think of anything below me...like maybe a dead bodie *shudders*. My imagination gets the better of me...

Edit, i also hate the suckers of octopuses and hate not being able to use my arms, if i were to get arrested by the police i would have to get them back and hit whoever did it without me really thinking about doing it...

Fear of having a razor sharp blade slit my veins/arteries open. Just thinking about it makes me want to cover my wrists and wear a turtle neck.

Not being able to breathe would suck a lot too. I sometimes imagine that I can't take another breath and then my mind starts freaking out and I breath really deep.

My mum reckons it was one of the happiest cats she's ever seen.

Lets drug the entire populace against their will! It'll make them all happier...

Exactly!

i get freaked out when something is bigger than something else. like sometimes i thing of something, then think of something else thats 100x bigger than it (just a huge block or something). i start freaking out and shivering. i dont like looking up at tall things like buildings of phone poles when i'm right next to it.

So you are afraid of heights... in reverse?

Overhanging bushes freak the heck outta me when it's dark. I really don't know why.

Butterflies and moths.

Good one, I hate them.
They're not "pretty", they're winged messengers of death.

I have a 'fear' of deep water, not to drown in it or anything, but just the knowledge that there's x meters of water down below me, even though I can't see the bottom, it feels like standing on a high building on a sheet of glass.

And whenever I walk along a ledge or railing or something, I'm afraid I'll do something stupid/crazy and fall down.

And I guess it's not really irrational, but when I carry something valuable (laptop) or something that's not in my pocket, I freak out every time I exit a bus/train thinking that I left it in there and there it drives off with my stuff...
