It is revealed that another survivior of BMRF will be in Epi Two, thanks to some guy sending an email to Gabe...however Marc answered. To quote it:

"Gabe,

Hi, Gabe. Long time player, first time writer. Anyway, I've had this
question that's been nagging at me for some time about the Blue Shift
expansion. Although I know it was mainly a project by Gearbox, I thought
you would probably be the best person to ask. Well, anyway, on to the
question.

During Blue Shift, you meet a group of scientists with a teleporter
which you eventually use to aid in your escape of Black Mesa. What I
wondering is what exactly happened to the scientists who fled with
Barney? Did they end up working with Kliener and Eli on the teleporter
they were making? Did they die in the subsequent portal storms? Were
they perhaps enlisted in the ranks of the combine (I assume much to
their detriment)? For some reason, I've just been craving for the answer
to this non-plot critical and relatively insignificant question and I
finally worked up the nerve to ask. Anyway, anytime you can respond
works for me. I hope you have a good day (or night, depending on when
you read this). Thank you in advance.

-James

Marcs relpy: "Hi, James,

Thanks for your note. We try not to answer questions about the story
directly outside of the game--believe what you play, not what you read,
is my motto. The waters are murky, unfortunately, when it comes to the
Gearbox titles because we did not make them and I don't feel compelled
to abide by every story idea they came up with to make their game more
fun. That said, it's now public knowledge that you'll be meeting at
least one further survivor of Black Mesa in Episode 2. Hope you enjoy
it."

Interesting. Wonder who it will be. Rosenburg? Keller? Or the Einstein scientist :p ?

Wait, no...not Shephard. Seriously, Marc, what are doing. Not Shephard.. no, they wouldn't.

That's very interesting! And for all these years I thought Marc wrote the stories of expansion packs! It would be awesome to meet once again ze doctor Rosenburg :)

Hmmm... meeting Shephard? I think he meant more literal "survivors" like at the end of BS.

There were a few remaining survivors of Black Mesa, indeed. Cross (possibly...possibly dead though), Green, Keller, Simmons, Rosenburg...Otis :p...the scientists at the least have a valid excuse for being there.

The trouble is that Gabe said "public knowledge." The inclusion of a new survivor definitely wasn't public knowledge, but what IS public knowledge is that Valve has said they'll get back to Shephard. And with the oft-repeated info from interviews that these episodes will showcase the "measures the G-man takes to reclaim Gordon," well...there's trouble a-brewin'.

I want a new important character, not another Black Mesa survivor.

I think Black Mesa survivors tie back to the first game and its sequels in a good way. The tie between HL and HL2, as we know, is not that clear

YES! More ties with the original! Wohoo! And Rosenburg would be a good choice, Blue Shift was a good game and deserves some kind of credit in HL2, plus it would give Barney someone new to relate to. As for Shepard... Samon, you don't really think they would... would they?

I hoping for Rosenburg or Keller. I doubt Otis got out of BMRF, he pratically sitting next to the Nuke. And fellow anti-shepards, Laidlaw would not do that...

Yep it will definately be one of the scientists and I would think that person becomes a main charcters as they said they are introducing new characters to EP2 so exiting stuff :)

It wont be Shepard by any means, that would just confuse things..

Ep 2 would suck if it was Shephard.

I don't know why, but it would.

I'm sure he wrote the main story - just some of the details he might feel less bound to, e.g. I doubt Walter or Simmonds (the two other scientists you escape with in Blue Shift) are going to pop up again.

...Rosenburg would be a good choice
I always thought Rosenberg was a bit of a twat, but that might just be me.

This is interesting because there is limit on who it could be;
Half Life: none
Opposing Force: Sheppard, Otis
Blue Shift: Rosenberg, (doubtful but possible: Walter, Simmonds)
Decay: Dr Keller, Dr Cross, Dr Green
All: A Vortigaunt, random other soldier, "Einstein" Scientist Model

Thats about everybody I could think of (never played Decay so I might be missing some there)

Keller was more of a twat than Rosenburg. But I liked these characters, so I'd love to see them back.

Heh, would be cool if it's Dr. Richard Keller that's returning. Twin gatling guns on both sides of his wheelchair.

"Here I come, mothafukkas! BOOO-YEAH!"

Einstein scientist...."They're waiting for you Gordon.....In the tessst chamber!"

I always what happened to the scientist in HL1 sitting by himself at the top of a silo or something and he wouldn't leave with you. I am sure he died but every now and then I think of the poor chap.

Keller and Rosenburg would be kinda old if they came back. =/

Well Keller would, the guy looks like 55-60 and it's been 20 years since BM.

A thought, a vision, has just flashed into my mind. A nightmare, you might say.

You see, Gordon is no longer under the control of the G-Man.
Shepard starred in a game titled "Opposing Force".
G-Man most likely wants Gordon back under his control.
The G-Man never interfere's personally. (or at least hasn't yet)
Who might the G-Man use to... get Gordon back?

Adrian Shepard. Irony? You betcha. I love it.

Episode 2: Gordon vs. Shepard

If Samon saw this, he'd call you a blasphemer.

I bet he would ;). Also I think if something like that were to happen
it were to be a bit cliche'd don't you think? A boss fight...Again the genre has evolved since then.

I reckon is will be the Einstein guy. Theres already a model of him (or at least a vague resemblace) of him in Counterstrike: Source

I reckon he was in the Artic Base, researching that site

Is it me or does Artic Base, and Research in the same sentence remind you of The Thing

That actually was a beta version of Kliener, they put him in CSS as a kind of Easter Egg.

Hmm... Shepard-Gordon would not be a cliche... not right away, i mean. But, it is plausible. I mean, the G-man saved Shepard due to his exelent adaptation skills. Throughout Op4 he shows a level of skill and talent comparable to Gordon. And since putting him into stasis comes down on a personal choice of the G-man, i would say we will see him either in EP2, or EP3 if the shisna hits the fan. We may never see him in EP2 or 3, but we would hear rumors, about a man seeking gordon. And the confrontation? Perhaps, the best would be to create situations in wich gordon has to escape from Adrian, before he can reach him.
But, i think we will see doc Rosenberg in EP2 or other survivors. Still, if EP4 or 5 does not feature SHPD, i will be severly dissapointed.
And for the Barney fans: 90% chance there will never be another blue-shift. Barney talks, a lot, in wich case, if the player gets to steer the destiny of Mr. Calhoun again, they would have to break a cardinal rule. He is a victim of his own fame.

PS: I still don't understand why some people don't like Adrian as a character. Please, enlighten me if you wish so.

I don't hate, I don't & also Opposing Force was a great game, but I feel that it just about summed up Shephard's story very nicely. He should not come back. There's no more perfect end to his story than being apprehended by the G-man.

HL does'nt need some ridiculus 'Boss fight'.

Did you even read the thread.... "

Hasn't this been done to death and my eyes hurt because of how tacky it would be.

Decay: Dr Keller, Dr Cross, Dr Green

Thanks for this post. Now I know there was such a thing as "Decay". :E

Why are you guys so much anti-Shephard? It would be pretty funny to see him saying sorry to Freeman... ;)

and once again Samon falls under the looming shadow of the Shephard.

fans waiting for hl2- I hope we see Shephard!
Samon- grrrr
Valve- no

I wonder if Shephard was released would he have aged. I mean, he was taken prisoner and more than likely not put into statis.

God, yes it sure ****ing does. I would like to see the Einstein scientist, or the one with the black hair. Also, I read somewhere that Keller died at one point in Decay. Most of all, I would love to see Rosenburg. He was the ONLY scientist I didn't get the urge to kill with the crowbar.

<plays the first two strokes on the violin from the Jaws theme>

"I don't know with what weapons WW III will be fought, but WW IV will be fought with sticks and stones AND MECHS!"

Corrected.

Anyway, I'm holding out for the return of Otis. Hmm... maybe I'll bring back my old sig...
