Dr. Stanley Rosenburg?

I can just see it now, Gordon gets KO'd for whatever reason and you hear the sound of a scuffle, and then you awake with Gina looking over you saying "Dr Freeman I presume... Its been a longtime..."

... and then she takes you to her secret lab, where you meet up with Dr.Rosenburg, his pet houndeye, and Otis. :p

i see gordon fighting the G-man (who has taken over shepeard's body) and breen (who has taken over a combine body and used it to become head of the combine) at the end of episode 3. However i dont think the series will end because i think the second rocket will open a portal to the combine's enemies which will try and take over earth (just because they are the combine's enemies doesnt mean they are good. The phrase the enemey of my enemey is my friend). Also i think the Vortigurts are going to show a different side of themselves since valve says that in episode 1 you see a rise of a "third party" and although it is known that this party is the vortigurts it doesnt nessecarly say in what way. The vortigurts might help now, but who knows what will happen in the future.

okay go ahead and flame me out.:sniper:

Um... maybe not.

If they must bring Shepherd back, they should make him a PC not an NPC. At least as a PC they'd be picking up on some kind of existing story, as opposed to entirely fabricating one for whatever purpose they need X character to fill in HL2 Episodes.

Agreed. I like Shephard, but IMO he HAS to be a playable character. Having him as an NPC is just plain wrong.

and once again Samon falls under the looming shadow of the Shephard.

fans waiting for hl2- I hope we see Shephard!
Samon- grrrr
Valve- no

fans waiting for ep1- I hope we see Shepahrd!
Samon- garrghhh
Valve- no

Fans waiting for Portal- I hope we play as Shephard!
Samon-eeeuuughhhhh
Valve- no

Fans waiting for ep2- I hope we see Shephard!
Samon-Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Valve- maaaaybe
I think I officially am in love with Samon.

Well people seem to be objecting to Shepherd returning because he has no place in the HL2 story line and it would look silly. I'm just reminding people this if he was brought back valve would do it in a good way.

That line of reasoning is stupid though. You could argue that Shephard had more of a place in Half-Life 2 than Barney, Eli, or Kliener. Especially now considering that the G-Man has "lost control" of Freeman it makes perfect sense that he might decide to go and utalize one of his back-up assets: Shephard.

I thought of the exact same thing.

I go to the last page of an interesting discussion to find this garbage...?

Interesting. Wonder who it will be. Rosenburg? Keller? Or the Einstein scientist :p ?

Wait, no...not Shephard. Seriously, Marc, what are doing. Not Shephard.. no, they wouldn't.

Even if you don't like him (for whatever reason), it WILL BE him. I'm pretty sure of that. imho the scientist could be replaced with any other one, they're not really important. So why make a 5 minutes appearance of a random scientist (who has not been in HL2/Episode One) nobody cares about ? Just to have a new scientist model for multiplayer ? I don't think so...

imho G-Man gets Shepard to hunt down Freeman.

(I haven't played Blue Shift, so I'm more like not caring about shepard)

I doubt Shephard will ever appear again, because there's no place in the HL2-world for the HL1 Grunts which Shephard represents. The military would have been absorbed into the Resistance long ago, in which case it would be better just to make an original character from scratch. However former Black Mesa employees seem to be useful, so I assume any scientist has a much better chance of appearing than Shephard.

First: I second the fact that it is imposible to hate Samon. It must be his avatar.
Second: Shepard is perhaps one of the coolest characters i have ever seen in HL saga. The problem is, that the only character that interacts significantly with him is Otis. And that just plain sucks, because that limits his role in the entire story. But many like him, and if VALVe can think a proper return for him, everyone, even Samon, will at least like him. But i dont think he will be sent to kill/hunt Freeman. That would be a stupid cliche.
You know, i think i have the perfect idea to see if Shepard can be accepted by the fans. If there is any VALVe employee reading this, hear me out:
A short, but compressed "mini-episode/game" featuring Adrian, a possible prologue for an eventual future game. Just like Portal, but story-wise.
But i guess that if this should happen, Samon would go ape sh*t. Anyway, we Shepardians should accept the small possibility that we may never see him again in the HL saga.

People find this hard to accept, Gordon Freeman is Half-Life w/ the exception of G-man.

But I agree, if he were to return I certainly would'nt want what every single fan wants...G-man send out shephard to hunt down & kill Gordon, but then they become friends & fight along side each other, then Adrian tries to hit on Alyx but then Gordon punches shephard or whacks him in the head with his crowbar..end of friendship*they fight to the death to get alyx*.

Lol

imho G-Man gets Shepard to hunt down Freeman.
Not to sure why so many people jump to this conclusion.

Gman: "rise and shine Corporal Shepherd, rise and shine"
Shepherd: "Wow whats happened to the world? Vortigaunts as allies, the earth is enslaved to this 'the combine', they are draining our oceans, trans-humans are attacking me.....I think I'll hunt down that Freeman fellow I've heard so much about!"
Gman: "..."

Its makes no sense - Gman doesn't want Gordon dead he want him under his control again. Also Gman doesn't give out orders - he never told Freeman to go after the Combine or the Citadel - he just placed Freeman in a position where he would go after the Combine and the Citadel. Its hard to justify a reason why Shepherd would go after Freeman. It was never even your mission in Opposing Force - despite what it said on the box, you were never told to go after Freeman. In fact depending upon how you play the game you never kill a single Scientist/Security Guard and can even protect them from other soldiers.

I'm not against Shepherd coming back, in makes sense in a way depending upon how the Gman reacts to current events, but apart from causing more problems for the Combine there is no reason for him to come back yet.

Maybe he uses Shephard to bring Gordon back under his control. But im still backing up my Las-Vegas in space theory... Im sure Gordon has a great poker face.. yeah..

I highly doubt that Shepard or any of gearbox creation are going to be in Half-life: Episode two. I bet it's going to be that scientist (Einstein model) that you had to protect while he tried to activate the portal to Xen.

Funny you say that, UseAbuse. He died in OP4, remember?
Oh, thats right. You dont follow that line. Shame

Rosenberg had the most personality of ANY scientist in the HL1 universe. Hands down.

Does someone want to disagree with me on that?? Anyone?

I would find it immensely pleasing to find Rosenberg working on something important for the resistance movement. EG: the rocket. It would tie in nicely, and Eli and the others can pass off not telling you about him because they thought you already knew.

If barney is in Europe, and he escaped from BM with Rosenberg, which is Canon in the HL universe, then it makes perfect sense that he came with barney.

Case closed.

Bringing Shepard back into the picture just wont work, he has no role tp play in the current story arc, and all the roles he could play would just not make little sense and contribute little to the story. He could either be used by G-Man to hunt Freeman down which makes no sense at all, he definately wont fight for the Combine, the only option he could be used for is another ally for the Resistance, and he therefore becomes no more a character contribution than the civilian allies who fight alongside you.

How could you hate Samon? hate is a very strong word.

I mean its impossible, hl2.net IS Samon :D, so that must mean you hate hl2.net .

He obviously mispelled salmon. I agree with him, I don't really like fish either.

I heard that if you chant "I hate Samon" three times in front of your bathroom mirror, Samon will come out of the mirror and ban you from HL2.net! True story.

It's true.
There's too much Samon hate. I'm hurt. I'll have to ban some people.

ok, BAN me if wou will! I can take it!
But it wont make Shepard go away! The 1000 year forum battle will rage on.
Hail Adrian!

... if he returns. Otherwise, im in deep sh*t.

Yes.
Rosenberg was annoying and had NO personality. Character that do nothing else but tell you what to do next can't have decent personalities. The other scientists had classic lines like
"Why do we all have to wear these ridiculous ties?"
"Shouldn't you be guarding some doughnuts and coffee?"
"Do you know who ate all the doughnuts?"
"Well, there goes our grant money."
that's not to mention the hilariously disjointed conversations they have with other scientists.

Yeah, me.

I liked Rosenburg, and would be glad to see him back. But he didn't have that much of a personality.

"Oh. Poor Harold."

Yep, you're co-worker is indeed dead.
