Dr. Stanley Rosenburg?

Its not that Shepard is hated as such, and even Samon admits that he liked Op4. Its the fact that he's not needed and doesnt fit with the story in any real way. And that combined with the legions of Shepard fans clamouring for his return (Which I am partially in favor of, so he can get greased and the series can move on).

That would be so cool !

It reminds me of something : the funny dialogs between security guards and scientists in HL1. From my point of view, Valve has got this great idea and will use the concept again in Episode 2 !

a) The Einstein guy will be perfect : I wonder if he's not the person working with Kleiner and being "bzzzt" at the end of the 2nd trailer. It would be fun to have a second absent-minded scientist discussing with Kleiner...

b) Otis will be also a good idea : just imagine Barney discussing with his old beer-lovin friend from Black Mesa...

However, a) is more likely, as Valve doesn't really consider Opposing Force (in which Otis was introduced) as canon. What do you think ???

About fitting Adrian to story...Shephard is a military man making him a perfect puppet for puppeteer (gman most likely). Difference between a complete puppet and Gordon is that Gordon is actually thinking while doing the things he does, he's not just a brute force wonder pushing onwards until he either dies or the goal is reached. Shephard could be written in as a perfect example of corrupt power and as such used as to teach these modern twa...children about moral and choosing one bad choice over another almost equally bad one.

I don't want to play as Shephard though. I want to see him Doing His Thing, but I don't want to do it myself since it would demystify the whole thing quite easily.

The rest of your post was great save for this bit. They do. We've discussed this a 1000 times over, Gabe said its canon, laidlaw said its canon, heck its an OFFCIAL expansion.

Rosenburg is teh shit because he had his own player model!!!

I'm most keen on either of the Decay Player Characters personally. They're relatively clean slates with proven combat ability, HEV suits and two X chromosones. Need to keep a good male / female balance.

It makes sense considering the gravity gun

LOL

Source please.
I read this great interview with Gabe once that talked about this issue, including Sheppard, but I didn't save the link and now cant find it (I think it was on gamespot or gamespy). I'm going to scour some of the info threads later on. I do have this

As far as the universe goes, we have a great relationship with the creative minds at Valve – especially Marc Laidlaw who is responsible for much of the writing of the games.

I hope its Shephard. He would fit quite well now considering what happened on Episode 1. But we'll see. I've always loved to play Half Life and I dont really much care but..it would still be nice to see/play him again. :)

Gina is in HL1 too. She's your instructor. And Gordon V Shephard would be stupid, very stupid.

considering there is a Human and Xenian VS Combine war going on, One human versues everyone and Freeman is just a baaaddd idea.

You two get my cookie. Humanity united!
Besides, why would the G-Man want Gordon dead when he can just get Gordon himself.

Yeah, he's a sneaky *******. And he likes to brush off his suit every twenty seconds. How fussy is that!? :p

What's wrong with Shepard? Why do you people hate him?

How many forking time does this have to be explained. We dont hate him. Not even Samon actually hates him*. But we realise that he does not fit. Virtually all his potential allies are either dead or have been turned into overwatch soldiers, he has no connection with any of the members of the resistance (with the possible exeption of trying to kill them). He has no place in the HL2 world where his return would be possible.

*may or may not be true

So do you think Shephard couldn't be some sort of "father of Civil Protection" and actually be a high-ranking CP or something similar?

Except the obvious fact that, now that the Gman has lost control of Gordon, he may require a replacement pawn for whatever tasks or assignments that he had intended for Gordon at this point.

Wouldn't that be incredibly cheesy, given Shephards position in the first game?

I suggest you get your facts right. At the end of Opposing Force gman specificly says that Adrain will be put on hold in a space where he cant harm anyone nor can anyone harm him (portal maybe? no, Dough say its a new character in Portal, theory dismissed). So basicly Adrain is just somewhere waiting, he is in Gmans pocket waiting to be released just like gordon was.

EDIT: upps, my bad. I thought you said HE had been turned into the overwatch. sry (im really tierd)

Has anyohne really paid attension to the email? he didn't just say there would be 1 survivor from BlackMesa he said at least 1 survivor.

I think ottis and shephard will come back. They have both met each other and would both know each other concidering how many times you meet each other. It would sorta be like barney and Gordon.

but these are just my thoughts:p

Except nobody would want Shephard's services, as he seems to have become an unperson due to being put in limbo. Only Freeman's services are in demand at the moment, so I would think G-Man would try to recover his pawn first before being forced to replace him.

There's really only two people I can see making sense in being in Episode 2, Rosenberg or Shephard. I either see the missile silo as Rosenberg's base of operations or Shephard a leader of a rebel squadron, like Cubbage was. Now, there's the whole "Shephard in limbo," but Laidlaw could easily write that never happened or G-Man let him out eventually. Valve knows a lot of people like Shephard and Gabe says he's a fan of Shephard so who knows. I'm hoping its Rosenberg or Shephard.

Shephard's "limbo" is exactly the same as Gordon's stasis.

Consider -

Gordon: Travelled to Black Mesa via tram. Was put into stasis by the G-Man on the same tram at the end of the game, flying through "space".

Shephard: Travelled to BM via Osprey, was put into "limbo" by the G-Man on the same osprey at the end of the game, also flying through "space".

The only major difference is the G-Man's speech (employment vs. imprisonment), but that's not much of a difference at all considering that they're both in exactly the same place, doing exactly the same thing.

And why would he even bother keeping Shephard alive if he was never going to use him for anything?

The whole thing just screams backup plan, IMO.

the reason I think shephard would be interesting is because no one knows who the hell he is. He's not famous like gordon. As much as gordon is kept in the dark of everything going on around him, he is at least guided and instructed by people who know of him and are aware of his abilities. Adrian on the other hand is a nobody and very much on his own. The only person who even knows anything about him is the gman.

If he were used i doubt you'd end up having a violent confrontation between adrian and gordon. Adrian only ever saw gordon as a mysterious figure just out of reach. However if the gman did use him, it would be in a subtle manner. He'd probably put adrian into the resistance and slowly shape his actions to be inadvertantly detrimental to gordon and the vorties without him even knowing until its too late. And then *BAM* stasis again.

Hmm. If Adrian is thrust back into the Earth material dimension, would he be an enemy, an ally, or a nuetral figure?

I just thought of something. What if Barney met Rosenburg? As in, for the first time after the Combine invasion because Rosenburg wasn't in City 17 and was in the wastelands and Barney couldn't get out of City 17?

:O Massive dialogue scene FTW.

Rosenburg seems the most likely. "Walter & Simmons" were nobodies, Keller was probably too old, and Gina and Collete weren't exactly fleshed out either. Though who knows.

Seeing Rosenburg would be fun, dialogue would top the visuial change of character...

You know, I was just thinking, it could be one of the female survivors, Cross or Green. There was a study for a female protagonist in a combat suit (I.A. Latham) in Raising the Bar...it could be that this idea was scrapped in place of bringing in another HEV-wearing scientist into HL2.
