Well, it seems that the next big eve update is coming very soon and it looks frigging fantastic. They have remodeled so much of the content and really giving it the next gen over hall it really needed giving it all the spec maps, normal maps and shaders which are the current industry standard.

They have just released a new website giving some of the details of the updates and some real cool interviews on new content, new gang/fleet controls and other sweet new features.

Although they seem to be nurfing a few of my fav ships namely the eos! I still cant wait to get my hands on these sexy new graphics!

Will this new version make the game not such a chore to play?

Hehe, depends if you enjoy the game play or not but for you clearly not :)

However they are adding more npc missions, in depth exploration and new ship types like heavy intordictors and tech2 battle ships!

I was on a 2 week trial for this game, and half-way through the 1st week they decided to go into the PvP zone. I was only a n00b but they'd helped me build up my ship. It was awesome.

I didn't really think that the game needed a graphics update since its pretty good as it is, but I suppose if people are paying good money to play then they should get the latest stuff.

For anyone who hasnt already, i'd suggest checking out the 2 week trial.

Yeah im on the trial (again) ATM and am loving it, if anyone wants to give it a bash then send me a PM with your username and I'll help you out with some ISK to get you started.

You can get the free 14 day trial HERE

Citrus where are you based m8? im thinking of joining a corp myself for a bit of PvP action

Man, now I wish I could get into this even more. It always looks and sounds so awesome, but I can never get past that "what the christ am I meant to be doing?" phase when I trial it. :p

Then again, I'm kind of fond of my money, too.

EVE Online is like the only MMO besides Ultima Online that I've enjoyed, and even then it's mostly because EVE Online is like the only modern MMO that ISN'T a -TOTAL- grindfest.

EVE Online is the only MMORPG besides CoH I have liked. And I as not that much a fan of the grinding in CoH.

Dont play it anymore - sorry ;)

Totally different to EVE, but if you like MMO check out www.travian.com. It takes alot of time to make a strong account, but when you finally get through the tough stage its great. Might of changed alot though since I played it ages ago.

It does take a little wile to get into thats for sure, I played for around 2 months back in 2004 and just didn't get "it" but started again mid 2006 and really got into it and now just can't get enough of it. Managed to get into a really good PvP alliance, our enemy alliance is 1500 strong and only a few systems away so we try and do raids on them to take out a few of their ships then run away :)

Once you start getting some decent skills the game gets a hell of a lot better, and better still when you are in a good alliance that gets on and does stuff.

Right now I managed to find a system where i can sell Ammo and drones which is over 100% over priced, and the silly buggers are happy to buy it :) Profit profit profit :)

The learning curve is step and is a challange but that is something that can make the game exciting, even now I still learning about things that I didn't even know existed its great knowing there is always something to learn or do.

And the PvP is just awesome, no other game has given me the same rush. Other then maybe CS but not often. Knowing your flying around in 200mil worth of equipment and if it does all is lost really does keep you on the edge of your seat when you find your self in a 100 man fleet battle!

Hey Stormy, any chance your corp could recruit me? im on the last day of my trial and am going to pay my money tomorrow for it. im looking for some good PvP action and your corp sounds just the ticket.

Ok guys EVE trinity is set to launch in around 24 hours, the servers are going down now for 24 hours and when back up trinity will be born :)

I'll post some screenshots for you guys once its back up, and again if anyone gives the free trial a go drop me a PM with your ingame name and I'll sort you out some cash to get you started.

Cheers

Whats this game all about? Ive seen a lot of people talking about it, and one of my teachers was obsessed over it, but I still dont get it.

Do you get to buy ships, and upgrade them with individual parts and shit? Or do you just get one ship and play that the whole way through. Is it strictly outer space? Are you always in the ship, or can you go around on foot to places, or walk around inside your ship?

Ive always been interested, but lack of monies and knowledge about the game resulted in me never trying it.

Answering as best I can with my limited experience with the game.

You start with one ship depending on class/race or something and buy more from there. Pretty sure you can own multiple ships, but I'm not sure if there's a limit. The upgrading seems fairly depthy, you can buy and swap out weapons, mining lasers, engine upgrades, shields... probably more.

Is it strictly outer space? Are you always in the ship, or can you go around on foot to places, or walk around inside your ship?
Pretty much all outer space. You dock in planets and space stations to trade and get missions, but you never actually walk around in them. Your avatar is never seen outside of a ship, basically. Don't think you can explore inside them, either, but that's not really the focus of the game.

Ive always been interested, but lack of monies and knowledge about the game resulted in me never trying it.
Free 14 day trial - https://secure.eve-online.com/trial/

So when this new update comes, can I try the 14 day free offer then?'

Stormy, you play this game right? I've considered playing this game, but I'm just wondering... Where the hell do you start? What's the learning curve like? What can you encounter in the game? I'd really like a general perspective on the game, even though I'm looking forward to trying it for myself.

By the way, for the space dust, particles and all that, DX10 would actually serve this game incredibly well.
By the double way, since we're posting pictures, I liked this one, too -

I had the 14 day trial of this and I have to say that it was great fun, and it seemed like the game had a tonne of depth. This is just about the only MMO I'd consider paying for.

downloading the trial now!!

i've been meaning to try this out for a while now...

it's out tomorrow isn't it? (dec.5)
won't my trial account be able to update to Trinity?

Yeah your trial will be included in the trinity, your just going to have to update your game like the rest of us.

TBH mate this game is 1 of the most in depth games I have played there are so many ships, upgrades and modules that its hard to find a ship that has the same setup as your own. it is a little bit of a steep leaving curve when you start but there is a rookie channel in game and people are always willing to help you out with questions.

Trust me this game is epic.

To be honest, space battle is epic, and the graphics look epic now, too. Downloading indeed.

Were you start depends on the race you pick, but basically you start in what is known as empire space.

The curve is more or less like a vertical climb. It's prob the major reason people drop the game. The game is very overwhelming, skills can take months to train for (like me I'm going for advanced weapon upgrades V and it's nearly 22 days for me). Ship loss suffers very real consequences, the ship is gone, you can get insurance but not for the equipment.

The game is massively open ended. You never have to fire a shot in anger if you don't want too. You can become and industrial tycoon mining asteroids, refining and building modules, or you can gear up for war, head off to lowsec/0.0 space and join a corp to fight.

The best advice I can give you is don't fly anything you can't afford to loose.

Also, there is such a thing as scamming in this game. It is an actual game mechanic for people to scam you. If you get sscammed, that's your problem. But, you can also put bounties on these people, which people who built their character can pursue, kill, and get the reward from you. Bitchy player Pirates. Be sure to join a clan/guild/company whatever they're called, as they can help you out. Also, mining is fun. I mined with a guild for a bit and it was fun.. we evne got attacked and some other guild said 'gtfo this is our asteroid field' and we were like 'no u'! Damn, I should get into this game again. Do they sell time cards?

I'm having problems - When I try to login, it tells me I have the wrong patch, but I'm running the latest version. Is this because of the downtime thing?

Yeah the game server is down until later on tonight (2.00am GMT) try after that.

Thank Patton!

Meanwhile, a little observation about the game:

...go on! What was the problem?

Downloading the trial right now. It sounds like my kind of game.

Just to be sure - You guys are getting the "Incompatible (Version)" thing, too, right?

Yeah, they are patching trinity. Should be up approx 02.00 GMT Thursday (About 5 hours from this post)

Its out now lads, like I said if any of you need a hand when starting off send me a PM with your username and I'll see if I can help you out.

Get the free trial HERE

Fly safe ;)

Also downloading the trial. I tried this last year (or a long way back anyway) and I was completely into it, even though I heard the start is pretty boring. I <3 space games and this is probably my type of game, although I can't convince myself to leave the other mmorpg (daoc - dark age of camelot) that I've been playing for the past 5+ years heh

As a fellow Washingtinian, I say make the jump to a MUCH better and deeper MMO!

Read about all the stories about alliances and spies and things about the economy, and you will realize how deep the game is.

Guys, this game is ridiculously awesome. I've only done two missions, but everything about it is so deep, and complex, and immersive.

Anyone want to do some rookie missions with me or something? My character name is Haram Tsollora, send me a message in-game.

[edit] PM'd a few people. Nemesis, Seagull, B_Man, Jammydodger, and Stormy.

We should all join a company and start the HL2net corporation. We shall dominate the mining fields! /goes to get
I got it using hitpoints of fileplanet. I'll go download it. I think I have 30 days or something.

That's a great idea Ace. My character is focusing on engineering, so I can build us all some crappy ships to blow up in :D
