Final Fantasy 12

This game is amazing. At the same place as most of you. Right after the Lhusu mines after running like a pussy from the Bangaan headhunters LOL

Anyhow, I was thinking of heading back into the mines to level, maybe to 15 or so, but now that VictimOfScience said it was a good place, I'll definatly be doing that.

Game is actually addictive enough to keep me from playing WOW... now THAT shows how amazing this game is.

What is everybody's hunter level? I have been on Hedgeknight forever... and my score is like 20,000, i've been a hedgeknight ever sicne like 5000.

Have like 10k and a Moppet... wtf is a moppet?....

And lots of people are saying that too. Here's what someone on another forum had to say (and it sounds AWESOME):
Loads of Gil, and LP
This is the best tip you will ever read in the beginning of the game for Power Leveling!

Location: Lhusu mines
Requirements: none!
Aids: Gold Armlet for 2x LP(Obtain at Eruyt Village from the kupos after finishing the Henne Mines). Forgotton Grimoire (costs 20,000 credits, aids with loot drops for the undead. obtain by viewing the hunters board in a pub 20 times, and will unlock in the bazaar).

Head to the Lhusu mines and travel to the 4th area in the mines, Which is called the Shunia Twinspawn. It has about 17 undead spawns in that small room. Yeah, its Kill Chain time! (Kill chains increase loot drops and the chance for rare loots. in this case, Iron helmets).

After those foes are defeated, head to the next area titled Site 2. About 15 undead are in here, kill all of them and head back to area 4, the Shunia Twinspawn. Kill all of those undead again! by this time we should have a rockin kill chain of 47.

Head back 2 areas (Oltam Span) without killing anything to ruin our kill chain. The purpose of heading back two area's is to reset the Shunia Twinspawn so we can repeat the process. So hold the Flee button (R2) during these areas.

Try to get a kill chain of about 200 (takes like 15-20 minutes). then head back out to any merchant and sell your loot!

Heres what you will have:
99x Bone fragments = 19k
10-25 Iron helmets = 6k-17k (this greatly depends on whether or not you have the Grimoire for the undead)
88x Dark stone = 2k

So basically, anywhere from 25k through 42k in just 15-20 minutes. And if you have the Diamond Armlet (2x LP), about 400 LP and leveled your characters once or twice.

Additional Tip: Remember, your characters in reserve also earn LP, so equip them with Golden Armlets too.

And lots of people are saying that too. Here's what someone on another forum had to say (and it sounds AWESOME):

That does sound freaking sweet. Now when they say the Eruyt Villiage... is that afterwards? I dont remember that... :upstare:

Yeah, after. I haven't gotten there yet either. Too busy levelling up here anyway. :D

ok i live in england so cant get this til march....however i was thinking of importing a usa version and using swap magic, however there are 2 versions of swap magic which one do i get

http://www.memtechsolutions.net/index.php?cPath=1_11&osCsid=94a653c6f63c5be9d4be721c5f168145

thats the link, i live in england so obviously i have a pal setup, but the usa version is ntsc so thats why im a little confused.

I am pretty sure you need the pal version since the swap magic disk must be in pal format otherwise the Ps2 won't read it. I personally just use the Independence expoilt it's totally free i'am cheap

The Dino not really that hard to beat at level 12 i killed it i just used the quickening 6+ chain kill it.Then at level 21 i stole 2 gladius from that rare wolf and totally pounded the dino.

Got to this boss, had to rethink my entire strategy. First FF I've played where they make sure you use EVERYONE, which means no sticking to 3 main people through out the whole thing D: I wasn't focusing on Balthier Or Fran too much my main Ranged guys, and this fight im in absolutely requires them D: Time to level em up.

possible spoiler!

im at the mines
the large snake-like creature at the fork in the road (a hunt) is pretty tough cause he uses haste and attacks very frequently
i keep getting him to like 10% health but i cant finish it!!
gotta level up a bit more i guess :p

I really want to get this game. My PS2 is chipped, i think (plays CD-R's and DVD-R's as well as foreign dvds without a problem) so i'm thinking of importing it from the US, as i go on a 3 month break starting next week. But i'm kinda conflicted, as i don't know whether or not its worth it, nor if my PS2 is actually chipped.

Oh, and i have no idea where to import it from. Any aussies out there who might have a clue?

Anyone seen Gabe's writeup on the front of PA yet? It's at the current newspost.

Anyway, have you guys encountered the Final Fantasy staples yet? Like Biggs, Wedge, Cid, Shiva, Ifrit, Chocobos, Cactaur, Tonberrys etc...

Cid, yes. He is "Doctor Cid".

***Possible Spoilers for CID!!!!!! *******

"In Final Fantasy XII, Doctor Cidolfus Dem Bunanza is a non-playable character and, for the first time in any Final Fantasy game, an enemy boss. He is Balthier's father, and Archadia's chief researcher who leads their study of Nethicite. Shares the same surname as Mustadio from Final Fantasy Tactics."

*****************************

Who ho ho he better be one hard boss :)

And as far as Cactaur... sort of... there are these little cactus creatures roaming around... but none with arms AND legs yet.

And Chocobos... they are all over the place in the cities... not so much the wild... yet.

Haha! Just saw Doctor Cid on the airship. Didn't know about the relationship though...interesting.

BTW, the Leviathan an awesome place to get some serious chaining and LPs going, not to mention some leveling. After you free Ashe and you are supposed to escape, take as long as you want because there's a save point and infinite imperial swordsmen, magi, and hoplites to kill in the circular outer hall. I played for 23 minutes this morning and had an 86-chain of imperials going before I had to go to work!! Lots of loot drops, LPs, and XP. Stay there as long as you like and then save and keep going. Plus there's a moogle shop too! I don't know when I will ever leave!!!

How difficult is this game? Compared to, say, Final Fantasy X which is more challenging?

The new battle-system looks neat and I'm very pleased they threw out the ancient random encounters which buggered the hell out of me.

FF is so overrated
No, this one has pretty much been perfectly-rated. It certainly gets a 9.5 or higher in my book.

X just didn't hold my interest the way this one does. I would say that the sheer amount of strategy involved with this one and its character control makes it more challenging than X, but I am only 8.5 hours in, so I am sure it will get much more challenging. I already know that it only took a handful of monster hunt quests to encounter some seriously challenging ones.

The new battle-system looks neat and I'm very pleased they threw out the ancient random encounters which buggered the hell out of me.
Yes! The new battle system is great great great! I got pretty sick of the random battles after a while (didn't mind them in DQ8 though...hmm). The new system of seeing the monsters beforehand and choosing to run by them or not is terrific.

I can't say enough good things about the game. The story is totally Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and more all mixed up together which is excellent. The graphics and sound are amazing. The story is (of course) deep and intriguing. The voice acting and writing is actually top-notch. It may just be the best FF game ever imho...besides Tactics of course. :cheese:

Thanks for the reply, Victim. :E

I might check it out, it does sound very nice.
I like games which you can spend a lot of time with. The last, for me, was Oblivion.

No prob. I just want everyone to have as much fun as I am having!

Same here. Its hard to find time for lengthy RPGs these days with work and all, but this is one I never thought I would like so much and now I cannot get enough of it!! It is inconceivable that you would regret getting into it. Enjoy!

Agreed

finished Leviathan last night. It was quite fun... especially the end.
That Volloson or whatever his name is, the guy in the Black Armor and great sword.... he is F*$@ING AWESOME :rolling:

I should have stayed longer but I figured I was ok to go once I could KO a swordsman in one move from each character (without that Vollo dude).

The story line is SO amazing in this game, and the voice acting and the character animation... everything feels so REAL... like playing through an awesome movie or novel! AHHHHH I WANT TO GET HOME AND PLAY MORE!!!

I just love the way he holds his sword--total fuggin coolness!!

That's what I am going for. Well, that and LPs. :D

Same here. I may need to take some time off...;)

I would take time off... but I need the cash... I hate it, can't use my sickdays until I have been here 6 months... and I always think about it like this, if I take a day off, its like paying $120 bucks for it.. not worth it, but damn close. And plus the fiance would probably be pissed lol

Hahaha! Same boat here. We should meet for drinks in the aft lounge.

ok Final fantasy nemb here ..I played one of the final fantasy games way back on the psone ...however the cutesy characters, flashing lights, boring combat turned me off. Perhaps it's just moi but japanese games hold little interst for me cuz they're either too closeted homersexual/metrosexual/pretty boys or annoyingly cutesy ..or induce seizures

what can a japanese-game-hating-canadian-boy such as myself find worthwhile in this game? sell me on this game

-Mature storyline
-Well developed characters
-Actual strategies to defeating tough enemies.
-Good voice acting
-Perfect controls
-New combat system
-European influenced (instead of the usual Japanese influences)
-AWESOME.

There. All you need is the last one to know how good this game is.

ya but what does it play like? compare it to something mainstream

It's all about 'collecting' each story. You get taken on a crazy ride with a cast whacky angst-ridden teenagers, and get to push a few buttons along the way. There's loads to see and do, worlds to save, monsters to destroy ....

I enjoyed FF (numbers 4 to 9 before finally giving up) in the same way I enjoyed cartoons (Ulysses, Dungeons and Dragons etc) as a kid.

The only games that are similar are other turn-based rpgs.

oh ...meddling teenagers ...just my favourite crowd :dozey:

so in other words it's like an interactive movie with some gameplay elements ...or is it closer to Kotor?

I'm so tired of fps I havent played one in months ..still looking for games to fill the void

Whoa whoa, FF12 is not like that.

Well, the new combat system has been taken largely from MMORPGs, but since I haven't played any, I can't really tell you which one its like. Its a long adventure with a vast amount of characters, varied and beautiful settings, great and numerous sub-quests, loads of monsters to kill/steal from, lots of shops to upgrade equipment, magic, technicks, items. Its like playing a game that is one part Star Wars, one Part Lord of the Rings, and one part Final Fantasy (take your pick of which one). It truly an amazing technical achievment on the PS2 platform and the vastness of the universe it provides should only be dwarfed this generation by the upcoming Rogue Galaxy.

I play before work, sometimes at lunch if there's time, and after work when the TV isn't being used by my better half. Man, I am totally addicted to it and I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Whoa whoa, FF12 is not like that.

I wouldn't know, having stopped at no.9

FF has always been more than an interactive movie to me, you get to 'play' as much as any other game. I'm half tempted to check out FF12, you guys seem to be enjoying it :)

(does it have Moogles?)

(does it have Moogles?)
Hahaha! It wouldn't be a very good FF game if it didn't have our cute little friends the Moogles, now would it? :) :imu:

That said, its not like Oblivion where you can do tons and tons and tons without touching the Main Quest. The world is not totally open at first, though it is not as limited as other games. You need to progress the main plot to open other areas to explore and other modes of transport between areas. I am not that far yet to see whether or not the whole world will be open for travel like with an airship or something, but hopefully such is the case.

I didn't like FFX that much frankly and XI held no interest for me either. I didn't think I would get this one until a few weeks ago when people started paying it huge compliments. I checked it out and have never liked a FF more (well, Tactics, but that goes without saying :E ).

ya but what does it play like? compare it to something mainstream

Yeah, it plays ALOT like an MMORPG... especially FFXI. If you dont like how they play, you will probably be turned off by alot of the battle system.

the story line, however, is much different than the norm for Final Fantasy. Its more so focused on the political agenda of the two kingdoms of Ivalice. Its One Kingdom trying to overthrow the other, instead of the usual "save the world from the ultimate dark evil sinister boss-guy" which really got me excited. On top of that the Graphics are beautiful... hard to believe its running off the PS2.

The Gambit system is what really makes FF stand out. Instead of Mico-managing your characters, you can set up "priorities" so to speak. Tell them what to do, when and to whom. You want your healer to only heal one of your characters, and only when his health is lower than %50? Done! You want your one character to focus its attack on the team leaders enemy, but if none is selected he will focus on the nearest visible... or only hit them if their health is critical! Its awesome how you can customize your characters this way, and its easy but yet stratigically deep at the same time.

Alot of info can be read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XII

And trust me, you wont regret buying this game. And one thing, battle can be alittle slow at first, so give it at least 2 hours and the game really picks up once you get two or three characters fighting with you!

oops it's ps2 exclusive right?

I dont have a ps2

And Rogue Galaxy and God of War 2 will just be icing on the cake early next year!

Trade in your xbox for NWN2 or Gothic 3 then! NWN2 gets better each time I sit down. Once I figured out what the performance issue was, playing is a dream now and a seriously fun D&D adventure is something that I have been craving for a while now.
