Final Fantasy 12

it's got to be longer than that ..I'm at the part where you get a shotgun and alex tells you to use your flashlight (I'm guessing things that go BOO is just around the corner?)

cash isnt the problem (time is) ..I still use my xbox to play co-op games with a friend of mine
I hear you. Time is a huge constraint for me too. There just not enough of it!!!

nothing has really kept my interest for very long
I hear that too. Some real mediocre crap out right now, along with some intensely stellar gems too! I almost don't want so many good games to come out because they suck my time like Ted Kennedy sucks a fresh [insert favorite liquor here] bottle!

The first PS1 game I played, the first RPG I played and perhaps even the first 3d game I played was Final Fantasy 7.

I hated it. I hated it so much that I sold my PS1, gave away the game for free to a friend and never played another RPG game featuring turn based combat.

FF7 isn't FF12, despite what you may think.

thats a really sad story

what's all this i hear about "quickenings" and the like? obviously i havent gotten far enough..

AHhh I remember when I first got my PSOne. I was ten, I bought Final Fantasy 7 as my first game... I didn't even have a memory card for the first 3 days having the system and game.

I dont know, really young. it prejudiced me against all RPG games to come.

Me too, after starting again from Disc 1 because my son wiped my savegames.

Still, I've now got my party set up (on Disc 3) where no-one has less than 6000HP, the three main protagonists all have 100 Death junctioned to attack, along with 100 of whichever elemental attack I see fit. Easy :)

Yes ff7 was one of the best in the series.

Only around 55, stupid freakin fish things in the sand area got me, forgot and killed one... bye bye chain ;(

And quickenings are like limit breaks, you get them on the LP board. Wish I could tell you exactly where, but I have Red Swirl and Whirlwind or something liek that. I have Vaan with 2 right now. Its pretty cool, though I still dont totally understand it. I had him use both quickenings once, have to hit Triangle or something to get extra time to cast it. Oh yeah and you need full mana bar to use a quickening. For each quickening, you get a mana bar. each quickening spends one mana bar.

I was up to 172 before I had to go to bed last night. Its very easy to just go and go and go, esp. in the 4th section of the Lhusu Mines where the undead respawn like crazy and when it slows down, just go back 2 areas then return (fleeing so as not to kill anything besides the undead by mistake). Lots of loot drops and pricey ones at that! Iron helms and Bone Fragments which sell for a ton. Great leveling too.

Unlock them on the License board. They are very powerful magics that you can chain together for massive damage! (<--har har). I still haven't gotten the hang of chaining them together though. Soon....

Nooooooooo!!!! My friend was playing on his save file... and accidently saved over mine... 45 hours... all gone :(

Nooooooooo!!!! My friend was playing on his save file... and accidently saved over mine... 45 hours... all gone :(

ohhhh that is rough... hope you bruised em for that :p

anyways, about quickenings... does anyone know how to use them properly? what are you supposed to press when theyre active in order to do max damage?
:sniper:

1. Activate quickening.
a. Is a quickening or Mist charge available? If yes, continue to 2
b. If no, press R2 to shuffle until a quickening or Mist Charge appears.

2. Press the /\, [ ], or X buttons that appear next to any of your character's names to activate their randomly shuffled quickening or Mist Charge. Did you perform a mist charge? If yes, see 2a.
a. Performing a Mist charge replenishes a character's MP so that they may have the required MP to perform a quickening. Performing a Mist Charge does not mean that you have activated a quickening. Be sure to press the button again after performing a Mist charge in order to activate a Quickening or use R2 to shuffle until you find the desired quickening you wish to activate.*see note*

3. Did you activate a Mist Charge/Quickening before your timer ran out?
a. Yes. If so, continue to perform Mist Charges and Quickenings in order to chain them together for as long as possible to ensure that you can deal the most damage. Return to 3.
b. No. Sit back and enjoy your last Quickening before you return to battle. Did you perform more than 3 quickenings in a row? If yes, continue to 4.

4. Chaining or performing a quickening combo can sometimes result in a Concurrence. Certain conditions are required before you have triggered a Concurrence.
Requirements:

Black Hole: 4 lvl 1Quickenings, 4 lvl 2 Quickenings, 4 lvl 3 Quickenings

Whiteout: 3 lvl 1 Quickenings, 3 lvl 2 Quickenings, 3 lvl 3 Quickenings

Ark Blast: 2 lvl 1 Quickenings, 2 lvl 2 Quickenings, 2 lvl 3 Quickenings

Luminescence: 5 lvl 3 Quickenings

Windburst: 5 lvl 2 Quickenings

Torrent: 2 lvl 1 Quickenings, 3 lvl 2 Quickenings

Cataclysm: 7 lvl 1 Quickenings

Inferno: 3 lvl 1 Quickenings

That's it for how Quickening's work. I hope it helped.

**note

For example, a character has all three levels of quickenings and a full MP bar to activate their quickening.
That character can (a) activate only 1 level 3 quickening OR (b) 1 level 2 quickening and 1 level 1 quickening OR (c) 3 level 1 quickenings before needing to activate a Mist Charge in order to replenish their MP to continue the Quickening combo

yeah im starting to get it now
thanks for the help

Yeah, me too, but I've still only gotten to 7 damnit! I also am on this other board and people there talk about their combos of like 20+ and I start to feel inadequate and ill....

Good thing you can just switch out old characters for new ones and begin chains all over again! I never would have beaten the second Demon Wall without it!!!

My highest chain is like 17 :| I think the quickenings are a bit too powerful though. For instance the last boss I just fought, I did a mist combo on him for 40k damage. He never layed a finger on me.

Yeah i agree the first judge you have to fight i used quickenings on him and it was all over before he could target me.

cant let this thread die!

where you guys at?

im level 25 i think..
completed 10 hunts, around 120,000 points..
im just exiting the jungle that's near fran's hometown

so addicted lol..

I'm still here and loving it!

I (Vaan) am lvl 29 and everyone else is lvl 23/24. I haven't gone south past the rainy Giza plains yet because I am too busy farming/grinding to go quite yet. I would dearly love to finish the mob hunt 'Ring Wyrm', but he seems nigh impossible to beat right now. 32,000 damage off from Quickenings (I am getting better at them :E) and he still has like 6/8 of his energy. Ugh!!

Just got Deathbringer though which is an incredbile sword. Gotta steal a couple more hopefully today or tomorrow. Thanks Ithuno!

I am unlocking/buying grimoires/monographs too and have 3 so far and I must say they are extremely helpful. Sure they cost a lot but the loot you get after opening them will make up for it in no time.

my gamesave.... *cries*
You poor devil. I can't imagine losing all of my progress thus far, but at least you know what to expect now and how best to prepare everyone, right? (I realize that's not much consolation, but hey, I'm trying!)

Where did you find this... Deathbringer? and what are Grimoires/Monographs... I am in the Village past Ozmone Plain, the mobs in Giza wet are quite tough, but I think my guys are under-leveled. Only around 19 each, but its fun being a challange.

where can you steal Deathbringer?
and where are you leveling/chaining at the moment?
monographs are definately worth it :D

Where did you find this... Deathbringer? and what are Grimoires/Monographs

where can you steal Deathbringer?

--Grimoires turn into monographs when you buy them and they increase the frequency of rare loot drops from different types of enemies. They help like crazy too. Well worth the money. You have to do strange (but easy) stuff to unlock them in the bazaar like talk to an armor salesman like 25 times, look at the mob hunt board 20/40 times, etc etc.

--You can steal Deathbringer from Ithuno in the Barheim passage. You have to heal the traveller that has been sick and staying with Daturo's wife (I think that's his name--the little village south of the river in the Eastlands anyway). Do that short quest (hopefully you still have the Nidhogg skin from the mob hunt) and the traveller will give you the key to open up Barheim passage again. Go to the red save point in there and buff up everyone and haste everyone if you can because the creatures are tough even if you run past them, which is the best idea if you are not like lvl 40 or something crazy like that. Go South of the save 1 area, then West thought the middle exit and you will see some strong Surianders. Run past all them to the second pile of rocks on the right, after the wall and the Adamantine (tortoise or whatever). There should be a chest there (but its random) and the chest will sometimes have gold, sometimes not be there, and sometimes be a mimic called Ithuno. Steal steal steal a Deathbringer from him, don't kill him, run away and save. Apparently you can steal more than one from him ,so I will go back and try to get another couple for my crew. The sword has an attack of 90!! Its incredibly powerful so enjoy!

--I am switching off between chaining at the Lhusu Mines for LPs/Loot and the north side of the river (from the area I just spoke about). Chain a bunch of weak wolves south of the river, then run north and fight the tougher wolves there and you will be in for some serious loot and XP.

I'm pretty sure I sold that skin... its in the "loot" area of inventory right? :hmph: Oh well, guess ill just have to make due with normal items and such. I need to level my characters... got to the one boss after the Henna Mines Boss... and he totally raped me... actually beat the Tiamat with 4 hp left on Frann and all my other characters, including whatever that guests name is, KO'ed... That was an INTENSE battle but showed I really need to Level some more and get some better armor and weapons for my characters. =)

And I dont know if it really matters, but I am basically building all my characters the same... has worked up until now, and I guess it does not really matter in the long run, as you cant reach a cap with LP, but how are you guys building your Liscense boards?

I have heard that it doesn't actually matter if you sold the skin or not. Supposedly it only matters if you want the best reward from the wife. I got some crummy mote, but I don't really care this early in the game and all I wanted was the Barheim Key anyway. :D

I am just now going to find the Henne Mines and my character (Vaan) is lvl. 32 and the rest are 26/27. Hopefully I will be able to sweep in there and wreck sh*t, but I'll play it cautious for now.

I am building my characters all the same, which has been one of the criticisms of the LP system. You find good magics on the board and everyone needs them, and its the same with techniques, weapons, armors, etc. I would sort of like each different person to be limited in their customization, but when I have this much freedom, I cannot limit any of them to just white magic or black magic. Oh well, still one of the best FFs ever!!

Good God dude... you are going to totally whipe Henna mines with those levels... good god. I got through it at lvl 20 on all chars... it was harder but I like challanges =) Tell me how fast you beat Tiamat =)

Hahaha! Nice!! I'll let you know. I always like to get overly-leveled if possible (and its always possible). I am just sick of some of the battles that can go on for like, an hour or some such ridiculousness. This seems to keep that to a minimum. :cheese:

I just love the fact that, unlike many games, you can explore areas that are later in the story and not right on the plotline at the moment and you have a lot of freedom to roam and hunt and such. I also like that the beasties aren't leveled with you. I LOVE going to an area and finding really strong (but rewarding) creatures. The plot has you doing that a lot which is good, but I just love the freedom it gives me to go out of the plotline, buff up, come back to the plot and whoop ass.

Yeah, after a couple more Hunters Mark quests, I'm going to do some leveling. I just finished the hunter quest for the Golden Armlett...that gives double LP... so YAY!

Just FYI, I found a place where you can buy them and its pretty early-on. If you go north of the river village where Dantro's wife lives, you'll go through some desert screens, but then you'll enter the mountains. A couple of screens north of that and you will be in the Babbling Vale (thankfully with a teleport save stone!). A moogle is there selling them for (I think) 3500 Gil. Everyone on my team has them now and yes, they are incredible!! ***You might have to 'flee' through there though. The enemies are pretty tough, but it'll be worth it!!***

Oh, and as far as marks go, I still can't kill Ring Wyrm...:x

Damn, you either A) explore your ass off, or B) use a walkthrough. If you actually explore all those areas to find things like this, whats your playtime at?

Hahaha! I really want to get a guide for all the pretty pics and info and such, but not til I win. :p

I don't use anything other than exploration. Thats what is so great about this world--just explore and you never know what you'll find! There's a few areas I can't get to right now because they will be opened with the plot. I tried going through the Salikawoods (up by the Babbling Vale) but there's a King Bomb or something that is nigh impossible for me to handle right now. You get him down halfway and he heals completely! Plus he has 3 little bombs with him at all times! A killer fight to be sure. I'd love to see what lies behind him though....

I am at 33 hours now and I am showing no signs of stopping anytime soon!! There's just too much to do!!!

Nice, I am at around 21 hours or so. I HAVE to get my g/f to go to work more =)

Is the only way to really level with grinding and doing hunts and shit? I just wanna play the main quest, but my characters are only level 11s and 12 at the moment. I just got off the dreadnought.

if you continue along the main quest without doing anything on the side like a few hunts and some grinding, you're probably gonna find it difficult because you wont have as many LP's to spend, nor will you have very good equipment/magicks etc

If you're gonna get the guide for all the pretty pictures, buy the collector's guide because it come with a bunch of pretty art prints that you can frame and hang on your wall.
