Final Fantasy 12

if you continue along the main quest without doing anything on the side like a few hunts and some grinding, you're probably gonna find it difficult because you wont have as many LP's to spend, nor will you have very good equipment/magicks etc

I always have enough licenses, sometimes too many. I've got a bunch of things already. Most of my characters have quickenings now too. But what I don't understand is how killing 48 skeletons in a row does NOT level me up at all. That's about 100 xp a kill right there.

If you're gonna get the guide for all the pretty pictures, buy the collector's guide because it come with a bunch of pretty art prints that you can frame and hang on your wall.
I was wondering about that. Good to know!

And level grinding and farming should usually be done in two different places, whatever they are. Best place to get loot and LPs is Lhusu Mines. Best place for leveling varies greatly depending on your current levels. Right now for me, anywhere that offers enemies that give over 400xp or so is a good place (and I am level 35 right now. Just finished the Henne Mines.

Oh, and Deadline, I beat Tiamat in 53 seconds with only melee attacks. :E

perhaps not, but arent you getting good loot? of which you can sell for good gil and buy better equipment etc
you could always find somewhere thats more challenging and therefore gives you better xp
but i find killing easier enemies faster is better overall
i did a grind in the henne mines against about 150 bats and went up 4 levels and made like 50k gil
you'll get the hang of it

:p

But I am still not able to beat Gil Snapper!!! That damn thing annoys the piss out of me! I am going to level some more and then bring it to him on a silver platter of death!!

what level are you? i was considering trying to take him out but im only 24-32

37 now...and with 3 Deathbringers in the party. I am going to get to 40 then try again. Killed Ixtab (sp?) in no time, so hopefully the next round with Gil will go to me. :cheese:

Whats the minimum level to steal from a mob because my characters were around 20 ish and I tryed to steal from Ithuno for the deathbringer and it wasn't a pretty site. It said that I "Couldn't steal from that monster" so im assuming im to low of a level. I have the guide and it sais Ithuno is like 40-42 or something like that.

Some monsters are just hard to steal from. "Couldn't steal from that monster" really means "That attempt failed." You can try again. For some rare monsters that didn't do damage very fast but hard to steal from, I literally set all the characters in my party's top 2 gambits to "Ally: HP < 50%: Curaga", "Foe: any: Steal", and gave my dedicated thief the Thief's Cuffs.

Of course, I believe that your chances of successfully stealing are based on your stats, so it should get easier as you level up, but it's still possible to do at lower levels.

edit: BTW, "Foe: HP > 70%: Steal" is a good gambit one party member to have above his attack gambits for areas of enemies that aren't likely to kill you. Sometimes it takes manual intervention if the thief successfully steals from Enemy A and the fighters bring Enemy A below 70% HP, then the thief successfully steals from Enemy B while the fighters keep killing Enemy A. The thief will keep trying to steal from Enemy B (even though he already has) until the party kills Enemy A and moves on to enemy B, or the player either directs the thief to steal from a different enemy, directs the thief to attack, or turns off the stealing gambit.

Those are all good calls. It'll just take a few tries to steal a Deathbringer from Ithuno. I recently went back to him to get another (for a total of 3 now).

I have been leveling in the Zerthenium(sp?) caves in the Ozmone Plains. There are these horse creatures there that give 600 xp each and you can make like 10,000xp in no time at all, which is great for my lvl.38 character to use to go up quickly.

In terms of plot, I am on my way to Mt. ???--can't remember the name, but its after you get the tear to open the passages in the jungle by the Eruyt village.

man sounds like i need to slow down on the main quest for a little while and do some hunts
my group ranges from 32-42 and ive just reached the empire's capital city

what's the biggest quickening chain you guys have done
im up to 19 now :)

Hahaha! Maybe, but I just like the grinding for levels, lp, loot, etc so much--very rewarding and it usually pays off nicely in slightly easier boss battles. I have a huge problem if they go on for like 45 minutes!!

I'm still only up to 9 :)() but I rarely use them. I realize I need to get MUCH better with them if I want them to make much of a difference in some of the battles ahead. :O

I've done a 16-hit quickening chain. I've pulled off a 2 Black Holes, unfortunately not when they really mattered.

And yes, there is a lot to do in terms of side quests. I've spent entire sessions without touching the main quest. My party is around level 54. Of course, I'm near the end of the game, so I'll probably do even more side-questing, since there's just more left of them to do than there is of the main plot.

well i plan to have the entire license board filled out for every character before i finish the game :p
there's just so much to do and i totally agree that grinding for loot and xp/lp is alot of fun and very rewarding
dare i say it.......i ALMOST wish this game was a mmorpg
:p

Nah, I glad its single player. It lets things be tailored custom to you. Although, they didn't actually go as far in that direction as some other RPGs. Things like having a city that you played in earlier demolished.

As for the license board, yeah, I'll probably have everyone have everything too. It's around 13000 LP to buy everything. Most of my characters have the entire top board (except brawler) and some are sitting on around 3000 LP. I should probably go on a license shopping spree...

So I am lvl.45 now and everyone else is lvl.35. I just got to the Phon Coast after screwing around and leveling and doing some mob hunts. Man, this game is big.

I tried exploring into the Necrohol and got completely wasted by some of the nasty little beasties in there. Maybe I'll just try running through to see what else might be back there, same with the other place west of the Salikawood, Negrida or something--the mist land (forget the name but its close to Nebrudis). I can't recall having this much fun with a game recently!

yeah the necrohol was very difficult for me too... so much so that i decided to take the party's advice and turn back

finished the remaining level III and IV hunts today and managed to complete one level V... the antlion in Lhusu mines :)

for anyone that's wondering where the key is for site 11 is (after defeating Antlion, the kid tells you about it.. the gate is located nearby), apparently you can find it in the hunters camp on the phon coast by the man that fell off bhujerba (lol)
havent grabbed yet myself, but i think you need it to find a mark later on in the game

My main party is Vaan, Basch, and Ashe. Rest are my second party, with few lvls lower than my main.

Is it necessary for me to lvl up all my characters instead of only my main party in order to beat the game?

ive found that it really helps to have your "secondary" members at a competitive level too.. that way, should any member of your "main" party choose to leave or be killed in battle, you can easily swap them out in and out temporarily

Around lvl 30 here and on Phon Coast... Ill definatly be leveling here for a bit :p

Man, I just found THE best place so far for leveling: its the Tchita Uplands (or something like that) right after the Phon Coast. Marlboro Overkings for like 900 xp each and they seem to keep respawning for a long time, plus big serpents for 750 and coeuers (sp?) for 500. Plus there's a red teleport stone right near the best area. I went from lvl 45 to lvl 50 in less than two hours (everyone else is 39 now)!

The really good news is I just made it to Archades and was able to finally buy the accessory that gives you double XP!!! They were only like 5000 Gil each too! I can't wait to get back to the Tchita uplands or whatever and start some serious leveling!!!

yeah, that seemed like a good spot to me too, although my guys level was too high for it to pay off at the time

funny thing is, i bought 3 double XP accessories and have yet to use any of them because im using double LP instead :p

Wow! Your guys must be up there! My main character is 54 now and the others are 38-45. I want to get them all to 45 before I continue any more plot.

Hahaha! Yeah, that's the toss-up. My license board is pretty much maxed except for a few stray weapons and accessories, so leveling is my main goal right now, even before I go to the Lab in Archades (my next goal).

bman, get to old archadies and buy the embroided tippet from the traveling merchant you meet right after you enter the city. equip those to double your experience points, now go to the tchita uplands/phon coast area. all enemies give at least 700-900, and doubled thats anywhere from 1400-2000 exp an enemy per person. i gained at least 20 levels there alone.

yeah ive got 3 embroidered tippets already
definately gonna head back to the tchita uplands though.... see what all the fuss is about :p

I just don't have enough time during the day to play to get my guys up there yet damnit!! 57 is all I can manage right now for Vaan, the others are all 45.

No fear, my guys are only level 32 each. At phone coast where VOS said to level, actually been here for a while :) And is there any way to get rid of Reflect without a dispell spell? Cause its pissing me off having all my characters trying to heal Vaan and having it just reflect and heal the enemy instead :p

i dont think there's an item that removes reflect
might have to just wait it out

Hahaha! Don't think so. Just don't buy that armor. ;)

Well, I finally found the absolute best place to level if you are over 40 or so and have some Deathbringers in your party. In the middle of the Cerobi Steppe there is a blue save point. To the north and south of it are Shield Wyrms that spawn everytime you cross the zone. With a 3-member fighting party you get 3654 XP for each. Get the double xp tippet and get over 7,300 XP in seconds then you can heal or buff and run across the save zone to kill the other one, and so on and so on. I now have everyone at lvl 50 and Vaan at lvl 62! Great find.

Still trying to make it through the Feywood in the plot though...:hmph:

EDIT: Just made it through Geruvian(sp?) ancient city and am going to do some more leveling and looting before I continue onto Balfonheim Port City to talk with the pirates. Found out that the Bubble spell is available from the Clan shop though, so that should come in very handy!

yeah i saw those guys too
i was able to kill them but not quickly enough to make chaining them worthwhile
nice exp though.. i might have to go back later

Just killed my first level V mob hunt (Antlion). He was only tough because of the rest of the Mantis baddies surrounding him. Once they were gone he was pretty easy.

i just fought a defeated gilgamesh. holy shit was he hard. make sure when u fight him the first and second time to STEAL from him, he has Genji armor, which is INCREDIBLY strong/rare. He is the Ancient/Mystery Man Hunt from Montblanc. He uses swords from every final fantasy game. Clouds buster sword, zidanes sword, squals sword, etc etc. he's an awesome fight, but honestly, dont even bother trying to fight the second battle until your at least level 70. i'm level 75 with my 3 main fighters and it took me over a half hour to beat him.

yeah ive got the hunt but i wont be attempting it anytime soon
do you need the gate 11 key that the kid dropped in the water to access the mark? its in the hunters camp right?

wow the ancient city of giruvagen is NUTS! i wont give anything away though... :p
