I'm wondering if anyone here uses them, and their opinions on the matter. I see the mouse as a core part of computer use that is often overlooked by those more willing to shell out on expensive GPUs and screens. It is nearly always in use, and it is what connects us to the games we play, so comfort, performance and those handy little side buttons are essential for me.

I use the Razer Deathadder. I've never owned any others, but it sure was a massive step-up from the standard desktop mouse I was using before.

i use a logitech mx518, great responsive mouse and very ergonomic.

I have a DeathAdder as well. Great mouse. It's ideal for all genres of games.

DeathAdder is very, very comfortable to use.

I've had a Logitech G5 for quite a while now, and it's been very nice.

One day I expect to walk into a topic named this and find a group of mice playing Grand Theft Auto or something.

Logitech G5. Wired. I don't like wireless mice.

A good gaming mouse is essential. You want one that has a DPI sensitivity selector and is ergonomic as well as optical.
Ball mice suck.

Don't waste any money on gaming keyboards either. I use a standard Microsoft keyboard that works just fine.

EDIT> Gaming mice > Gaming Gayboards. Useless waste of plastic if you ask me.

Razer Diamondback

I <3 it. But other people often comment how it's too sensitive and fast for them.

@Saturos

I'm the same. I don't see how much you can really improve a keyboard, especially since once you're used to your own using another one is like wearing shoes the wrong size.

But maybe I'm wrong, and buying one will show me it's as essential as a nice gaming mouse. I won't though.

Mine is dark gray and light gray... and it has a tail. It has no eyeballs.

:(

The only reason a market for 'gaming' mice exists is because there are so many cheap shitty unresponsive mice around. This gives loads of people the impression they havent wasted ?50 because they can see how much more responsive their shiny new bullshit glow in the dark 1337 gaming mouse is compared to that PS/2 ball mouse was back in '97.....
A normal, decent mouse will be responsive. Yes you have to spend more than 2.99 on them (but less than a 'gaming' mouse) And you wont tell the difference.

The entire concept of a 'gaming' mouse is retarded unless you will actually use the extra sensitivity and accuracy in the games (to get a noticable difference you would have to make it so sensitive its un usable in a typical envioronment.

This is all personal experience too. I thought that gaming mouse I had a couple of years ago was awesome.... then i realised that my current, ?15 logitech mouse is just as responsive...........
At the moment I'm not at my PC so I have this bullshit wireless mouse that is as responsive as a rohpynol victim(/lucky girl last night :naughty:)

The ONLY time the mouse had an advantage over a normal one was when I could change the sensitivity settings on the fly (like for the turrets in tanks and shit on BF2)
But apart from that it's the same as any other mouse... You just have to whack the sensitivity back down to a NORMAL MOUSE just to actually use it in windows and it just looks retarded when your date sees your nerdy gaming machine. Oh wait you can never trick them into getting that close to your room lulz

:(

Edit: Most of above can be applied to 'gaming' keyboards. Unless you actually want some extra nifty keys and/or reinforced WADS!!!! :D

I've never bothered with any Gaming mouse before. The one I'm using cost me like $20 I think.

EDIT: I also have to agree with neptune on this to.

I have a Logitech MX500. Having an extra 5 buttons that I can assign to anything I want in any game is great. You can get one of these for like $20 including shipping

I use a two year old MX510. Talk about durability.

Am I the only one here who uses a thumball mouse for gaming and loves it? It's wireless too, and I don't notice any sort of lag.

I've got the Logitech mx518. I love the 1600 DPI accuracy. I love the 2 buttons on the side that you can customize to do whatever you want.

however, it's got multiple DPI settings, and by default, when you start up windows its at a lower setting. I want it to always be 1600 DPI. so I often don't notice or remember to set it to 1600 DPI, and get used to it going slower.

I like my mouse fast as hell, and accurate.

I've managed to use the setpoint software to force it to 1600 DPI at all times, but somewhere along the line, this stopped working. I'll have to play with the software again and fix that.

I'm a little disappointed in the comfort of it. It actually hurts my hand a little. It's much better than my old $20 mouse - in terms of comfort and accuracy.

When it comes to keyboards, I've got the Creative Fatal1ty back-lit gaming keyboard. This keyboard is my favorite i've ever used.

the response time of the keys is perhaps the highest in the world. I can type extremely fast. I think I went up like 10 words per minute. I also like it because it is smaller. the arrow keys are merged into the alpha keys and so the footprint is several inches shorter, meaning that it lines up perfectly with my monitor and doesn't hang off to the right and doesn't get in the way of my mouse movements. So my right arm on the mouse is closer to my body and I don't have to reach. The back-lit keys are useful sometimes, and it has a button to turn it on and off at will.

Same. I also have a G5 but the MX518 is a bit better. When using a low sensitivity (and low dpi) it tracks full movements across the pad better. (registers correct movement up to 2 meters/s) I don't use high sensitivity so I don't care about 1600+ dpi settings. Although it works well there too.

That's an awesome mouse too. ;)

I agree most people won't tell a HUGE difference between them. But most people probably leave settings as default.

But maybe they want to change the DPI? Maybe the cheap mouse doesn't let you change the DPI... If the cheap mouse also can go up to 1600dpi, they may not make it wig out tracking since when using high sensitivity you don't need to move the mouse very far or fast (its sensitive, remember). Although at low sensitivity you need to move your hand across the whole pad. If you do so VERY quick, too quickly for the mouse, it will hit its limit and not move the cursor as fast as your hand or stop tracking all together. Like with the MS mouse, you can only move it up to 1m/s to hit its limit.

I have an mx518, but it decided to die on me. Aside from that, it's the best ever.

Yeah, the MX518 doesn't old the best stats after the deathadder came out. They do show the deathadder tracking beyond 2m/s for low sens players and it does have higher dpi for high sens players. But it's still $50-60 ($60 +$6 shipping @ newegg).

2m/s is really fast and the MX518 can track that. 1600DPI is plenty for most. So $30-40 is a lot better for a MX518 unless you need faster tracking or higher dpi.

Im using the same mouse that i bought 4 years ago. Just a simple logitech mouse, i love it with all my life.

interesting. I'm going to have to get one of those deathadders when it's time to replace my mx518

I have a Microsoft mouse. Works good enough for me. If i ever get enough spare change i might pick up a decent mouse.

giving you a tiny advantage in aiming precision that decides between devastation and victory
hyperbole extreme. Is this thing for starting nuclear wars, or for navigating Windows environments.

I use a logitech G3 and personally I noticed a major difference when I jumped form a regular mouse to it in terms of responsiveness. I can't tolerate using a regular mouse these days.

How hard are gaming mice to get used to? Are they much much more sensitive than ordinary mice? What i dont want is something so sensitive that i end up doing 270's trying to shoot someone.

Logitech G7. It's Awesome.

Don't get sensitivity and speed confused. Gaming mice are more precise, what mouse speed settings you use are totally up to you.

You can set your sensitivity to the level you like in the mouse configuration and most games. There's nothing to get used to if you don't want to.

I've been through tons of gaming mice, currently on a Deathadder

All of my mx518s have died due to the cord eventually getting owned (for whatever reason) and it would flash on/off, effectively being useless, but the deathadder's design seems to have fixed that problem (not sure why, had mine for 6~ months now and it seems to be fine. My mx518's died after 4~ months usually)

I couldn't stand the G5 due to it's negative acceleration (I use a low sensitivity), so that didn't work either D:

But yes, gaming mice make a HUGE difference. I would seriously never play an FPS ever again if I didn't have a gaming mouse like a mx518/deathadder etc.

EDITED CAUSE MAKING POSTS AT 1AM FOR ME DOESNT REALLY WORK
