Halo 2 scores so far

a good reviewer will at least find a few quibbles hidden deep in the game, much like pc gamer did with HL2 and HL. i'll never believe that you can't remove at least 2-3 percents from H2.

That depends if you're marking it against perfection (which no magazines do - because that would be silly ;))

Yes it does.

Well, according to Bungie it doesn't. They use the tradional bump-mapping, that shit with -ve and +ve percentages (not using RGB), to create depth or a height map.

Of course I asked this at the bungie.net board many times, "do you use a high poly model to make a low poly normal-mapped one?" - and they kept on saying "no".

You can't give a game %100...

You can. Whether the game deserves it or not is an entirely different story.

prone.... to become a journalist, what options would you reccomment taking for 6th form colledge? if you dont mind me asking. its just i might want to be a journalist and im really stuck for what options to take. so far i have "english" and im stuck for the other 3 :/

Gi = 10/10
But that same magazine gave Enter The Matrix(8.5) a higher score then Rome:Total War(7.75) which is just ridiculous

Anyway Prone, thanks heaps for those little tidbits, sounds great.

I've not seen one thing that Halo 2 will have that HL2 will never have.
Not one thing. I mean after all, you could make a full Halo 2 mod if you wanted to for HL2.... Halo 2, nope impossible cuz you can't even make TC's(Total Conversions)!!!

whats mapping and all that stuff?
Its like a texture they put over the model that reacts to the game's lighting, making it seem like it has more detail then it actually does

so is like a extra testure?

the cronicles of ridick game has a tecnology that makes the texture hav a 3D look and is very good

im sorry are you trying to make a point?

there 2 different games, your trying to prove that because half life 2 COULD be like Halo then its better?

Halo is HALO, not half life, i fail to see the logic in that statement

I dont want to offend but that is stupid

do the only reazon of the susces of a games is the MOD's

I know that when you complete a game it get bored but that dont meang that the game sucks

cuz everibody say that consoles suck cuz you cant mods the games

soo if that is the reazon why not buy a SDK instead of a game?
cuz for what I see the MODs ad all that stuff is the only thing that matter

He's basically saying he thinks HL2 will have more long term value because of its mods

I'd be willing to make a bet that Halo3 is already in progress for the XBOX2

because your ignorant.

you might aswell you cant think of one thing hl2 will have that [insert name of new fps title here that isnt out yet] will never have.

yes, and because every good game depends on the ability to customise it, gg moron. have a look how many top selling games odnt heavily rely on modding, amybe hl2 does because it sucks*

* i dont think it sucks, i'm just showing you how ignorant you are. i have infact preordered it.

he does have a valid point though. I mean, i'm still downloading mods for Half-Life, 6 years after the games release (How cool is Zombie Panic, i love that zombiefall level)

I've studied marketing and communications, then worked as project manager in the IT and made a voluntary year at a local newspaper.

Seriously, there's no way I can tell you how it works where you are from, usually there will be a college degree in journalism, right?

very true, i just don't htink people should rely on the modbase so much, but i guess that truly is one of the reasons hl was so popular.

i just hate fanboys comparing the the modding value of hl2 to halo2.

Got it right sparta.(Though you could also add more)
Im not saying that Halo 2 will be bad, im saying that if people really wanted to they could attract alot of the Halo 2 audience with a Halo 2 mod for HL2, thus adding more and more. Im applying that HL2 will have a long term affect because of mod originality and the fact that it could take nearly any past game, redo it and make it even better on Source. Because of that HL2 will live longer.
I in no way applied that Halo 2 will be a bad game, just that HL2 can do whatever Halo 2 can in the long run.
Though what i said was completely true, in the fact that I have not seen one thng that Halo 2 can do that HL2 can never do. Not that Halo 2 will be bad.

I'm just reading the EGM review for it now, it got straight 10's and tied with another game for game of the month (most likely GTA:SA).

At the end of the article is says

EGM Review said:
You could argue that given all the hype, Halo 2 is disappointingly more of the same; but with more weapons, vehicles, enemies, and a much better storyline, not to mention the series infamous "Legendary crawl" -- where you literally spend up to 30 hours trying to beat the game on its hardest difficulty -- I fail to see how that is a bad thing. In fact, Halo 2 is good. Very, very good.

Interpret that as you may, but it sums up everything i've heard about the game from people who have played. More of the same, just better.

But in the end, its more of the same. And if it is technically more of the same, then those who it didn't appeal to before then it will most likly not appeal to them now.
I prefer alot of the new plus the same plus better. Thats personally how i like it.

That snipet from EGM is just what I wanted to hear - more of the same, but with cherries on top :)

As for mods - I agree that they are part of the appeal with Half-Life (and hopefully HL2), but on the whole I don't think they add to games that much.

With so many telented developers about there's usually far better games competing for our time than some user made extra (not trying to take anything away from the talented modders out there - it's just the way it is)

But still, i've played many user-made mods that wipe the floor with games made by professional developers
