Havok Physics in MP2 gives you an idea about Hl2...

oh yeah, and also

-The game just SCREAMS "look at my shiny havocness" without actually using it for anything remotrely interesting.

-every time I got into a gunfight I kept thinking I was playing The Specialists, then realizing I wasn't, and it wasn't anywhere near as fluid. or interactive. or functional. hmm free mod coded by two guys with h1 engine beats max payne 2, coded by 20 or so guys with 2 years, millions of dollars and a successful game under their belt.

sad.

In what way does The Specialists beat Max Payne 2?

It has no story, a very amateurish appearance, it's basically a slightly upgraded version of Action Half-Life or the Opera, and the "new" features it boasts aren't even remotely new... even multiplayer bullet time was done a long time ago in UT with a mutator called "Lazy Matrix"

Then, Remedy produces a game that has a great story, tons of style, good implementation of Havok physics, great visuals, and yet still has great performance... and you think it is somehow a worse game than some ripoff HL mod that just brought together several good features from other games?

sad.

Man, ragdoll physics just came out and I'm already sick of it. I just beat MP2 last night and I gotta say that the ragdoll physics don't look realistic at all. In real life, when someone receives their final death blow, they don't instantaneously go completely flacid, drop their guns and fall to the ground. MP2's deaths remind me of the Matrix when people get the plug pulled on them in real life and their avatar just goes limp and falls to the ground.

What I want to see is a good combination of animation and ragdoll physics in enemy's deaths. I'd like to see people grabbing for their gunshot wounds while falling, staggering backwards before dropping, flailing their arms while their bodies succumb to the laws of physics. The only shot that should instantaneously incapacitate an enemy is a headshot.

but for me i was always getting MP2

i downloaded the videos from gamers hell

http://www.gamershell.com/

and noticed the "physics" when a guy got shot and fell into a shelf knocking it all over and stuff.

im REALY looking forward to it.

The only things that upset me about the physics were:

1) That shelf that he knocks into and breaks is the ONLY shelf in the game that does that, i think they made it like that because that is the first person you kill in the game.
2) The curtains in the hospital. Solid, no dynamics whatsoever.
3) No real use of physics in gameplay (unless scripted, I.E. specifically placed explosives) Like in HL2 where you can block off doors, push things down on guys.
4) The fact that the grenades do not roll.
5) You cant shoot guns out of peoples hands.

I know thats kind of being picky, but when i read about the physics for MP2 i expected it to be more a part of gameplay, not just for show. I love the game though, im about to start on DOA (3rd time playing through it)

Shoot one of the people who is wearing body armor (near the last half of the game) in the chest or leg with the sniper rifle. They will fly back (realistically, you can shoot their leg out from under them), grab where they were shot and get back up again.

I'm talking about when you actually finish the person, not when you injure them. When you get a kill shot on someone they go instaneously from a rigid character straight to a flacid ragdoll. I'd like to see both ragdoll and animation combined simulteneously.

Beacuse you've seen how many people shot in real life?:cheese:

Ok, use movies as an example instead. We're probably all a lot more used to seeing people die in movies. People don't just go limp and drop.

I have seen people get shot before, then again I grew up in Brooklyn during the 80's, but that's beside the point.

Way to go man! Way to stick it to the man!

It is also wise to not assume you know someone solely from reading messages they have posted on a gaming forum.

Did I say I knew you? Didn't think so. You're right, all I can see is what you write, and guess what? The only thing I need to see to accurately infer your pseudo-intellectualism is what you write; Imagine that.

If you want to get technical about what my "kind" is called... my IQ (tested multiple times in various places) puts me well within the official range for being called a "genius,"

Whoopty ****ing do. Who gives a shit? I have a professionally tested IQ in the genius range, big deal. Besides, I would venture to guess that the majority of people lie about their "credentials" online anyway.

But seriously, based on your posts, of which there are a lot of them, if you are in the genius range then I have to wonder about the accuracy of those tests. Unless of course you took your IQ test in Harlem (lmao) or you just took one of those dime-a-dozen online tests (which is most likely), then I would understand.

Ah, Hyped, I wondered when you'd be on my arse again. Lovely to see you, do take a seat!

Yeah.

Abom: Is it just me or do the vast majority (maybe 9/10) of his posts consist of only a one or two line insult?

Hyped: If one were judging you by what one has seen you post, one's opinion would be decidedly less than favorable... so "if you are in the genius range then I have to wonder about the accuracy of those tests. Seriously, I just searched for all of Hyped's posts and gave up after reading 3 pages of them without seeing anything other than insults.

Get a life... and coming in here to insult everyone in an attempt to make yourself feel superior does not count as a life.

Yeah.

I'm glad to see you were thinking about me. I must tell you that the "on my arse" comment made me a bit uneasy. I'd appreciate not having my invective comments toward you equated to the degenerate shenanigans you and your "relationship partner" participate in. That is what they call those people these days, right?

My thoughts exactly. Maybe he gets some kind of kick out of coming to a forum and putting down as many people as possible. Hmm.

whatever you think of MaxPayne2, it's an EXCELLENT game. The production value is incredible, it's a joy to play, the story (although somewhat cliche) is great! This time they listened and put tons of extras. Havok2 use is excellent (although could have been more used).

I must say Havok2 is as good as they advertise, it's very fast. Heck, I was able to play the whole game on a P3 800Mhz, 512MB, GeForce 3 64MB with very little slowdowns and great visuals. Remember when GF3's shader were so advertised with the hairy monster and such... it was over-advertised. But Havok2 does what it says it's gonna do (at least as far as I can see).

So to Remedy, Havok and Rockstar, GREAT JOB on making an amazing game that is well worth the hype. Not to mention it MORE THAN tide me over till HL2 hits the stores (whenever that will be)

I'm shocked. You have nothing to say, so you resort to the obligatory end-all-be-all 'insult' of "get a life." Cliches sure are handy when you're a half-wit, eh?

This is a message board full of fanboys and morons; You don't actually expect to get meaningful conversation from a place like this, do you? That being said, it shouldn't be surprising to see all of my 'negative' posts.

I don't know about you, but I have participated in quite a few interesting discussions... and without resorting to name calling or insulting everyone, mind you.

Maybe it is your approach that makes everyone else ill-tempered.
That's usually what happens when the first thing that comes out of your mouth is always "moron."

If you hate this place so much why do you keep coming back?
Do us all a favor and break that habit...

yep ur exactly right. you are a perfect specimen of a forum chameleon, you blend in with how most of the forum acts, and you act as they act. nothing special, its just obvious you have a problem with peer pressure. and because of it you are afraid to say something serious and intelligent.

nothing personal, just calling it how i see it, and ive seen this same thing in high school. these forums can be better then they are, but it started with people getting flamed for saying perfectly good things, then someone flames, so this puts other people in 'fear' to not post anything intelligent or meaningful, which makes most posts nothing but light dribble. its a shame

Most conversations on this board are pointless. They are that way even before I make my "approach."

I come here to kill time when I need to, or to get new info. It certainly isn't for the stimulating topics of conversation.

topics of conversation can be stimulating, hyped, but not when you jump on the bandwagon of spam.

So read, but don't post. Simple as that. We could all do without your fascinating opinions and thoughts.

Totally agree with you, afew pages back I tryed too take an active part in the thread (dont remember what page) witb a good long post or 2, and I got flamed for it, so now I would prefer to just sit back and read, I rarely post anything as someone will bitch at you about being a fanboy or whatever, then everyone else will join in.

err wow lotta hostility in here. :D

Just to recap on my opinion (of course :p).. I'm not saying the specialists looks or sounds or uses technology better than max payne. I also don't claim it has a story, obviously, it is a mp deathmatch mod :p.

However, I have spent a lot of time playing that mod, and I can assure you that there is a depth and substance to it which far surpasses max payne any day. for pure deathmatch killing spree fun only of course.

Thing is, as far as im concerned thats all max payne ends up being as well. shoot guy in head, progress- ad infinitum. the specialists lets you do that with your mates. works for me anyway. :p

-Back on topic.

MP2 was great to see what havoc can do, but i think the implementation was a bit poor in this game.

Raggdolls are good, but there is noticable room for improvement.
boxes dont feel to have any mass at all, and the sounds of them hitting the ground are odd.

Must say i really enjoyed this game, even more than MP1.
Playing with physics got boring quite soon, due to the fact it really has no inpact on the gameplay.
Therefore hl2 will rock!
It's still is a good addon for the special effects though.

I can't wait to see what great games and new features the future holds for us.
Plug me in operator!
