Yeah, I still don't don't know what the Hell is going on... I thought this topic was still on what was originally posted...

People have code now? What the Hell? Why, exactly, is this a problem if they planned to release it anyway?

this code was never meant to be released. It's code only the developper an engine licencees will see...

I dunno. How should I know. ask the one how made the game Gabe or the designer

You want to know how cheats are made? The source code my friend. With the source code you know how everything works, and how to get around them. So now they'll will be cheats before the damn game is even released!
Oh.. okey :(

Well, it can be a problem on many fronts. The first is that if people know the security measures that have been implemented as well as some of the variables, etc that can be changed, it is easier for them to create cheats. Also, intellectual property comes into play. In the games industry, secrets are everything. If this is bona fide code, others could study it and learn what Valve has been doing to make such a great game, and then use those secrets, thus getting better games without all of the effort that Valve put into it.

Consumers generally only get the end product, not the code itself. The code is far too revealing.
I was under the impression that the SDK would contain all the code...

I KNOW WHO LEAKED IT!!!!!

I was told the people who are making Vampire The Masqarade: Redemtion. Got mad at Valve and leaked it.

well guys, I can now say that hl2 WILL be delayed again. there is no way around it(except that they are already fixing the problems... but I doubt that)

On a side note the general level of "dur, whats a source code?" over at steampowered forums is quite funny.

Oh, and here's a question: Everyone should notice the "Copyright (C)" stuff that Valve has in their headers (I've seen people reproduce this earlier). Do you know what that means? It means DO NOT COPY DO NOT SHARE. Thus, everyone sharing and downloading these files are illegal, just like mp3 sharing is illegal. Just thought that people should know and be aware.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't pose that as a question, lost my train of thought midway lol.

Just as a question (I wont read through the last 20 pages I missed): Have anyone with the code seen stuff on the dozens of unknown enemies the community doesnt know about? We know gabe said like 20-30 of them, all I have read here (which isnt much considering the size, lol) is creatures that have been known from the start.

Saying "w00t! it has strider and manipulator code in it!" isnt even odd. If it would have lots of unknown enemies it would be proof for me...

I havn't looked at the monster code, but a large section or even all of the source renderer code is there, which is the biggest piece of proof by far...

If only a few of the enemys are in there then all that means is the other enemys weren't included in the leak, just like not all the enemys were included in the Doom 3 alpha leak. (before someone says it, yes i know that was different to this)

who told you? billy in shop class?

I seriously doubt that. a more likely bet would be someone working on a mod like dod or cs.

Did you by any chance know that you will get an extinguisher as a weapon during the game? No. thought so :)

Way to post spoilers, dipshit. I hope you get banned.

I have the sourcecode

Just because he has the screenshots doesn't mean he was first to have it. It's been floating around on the newsgroups all day I have it up on my network and there are 3 people here right now going over the code (They are programmers). So far the word is this: we're almost positive it is real. Halflife2.net doesnt want to let anyone post parts of the code or images or anything like that because this is a MAJOR setback to halflife2. Just think, now anyone can steal valves work.

The question now is to find out how complete this code is. We know it contains the code to the new counter strike and team fortress 2, but we don't know if they are complete or not. We are also looking at the DirectX 8 and 9 SDK that came with it (good chance this is incomplete cause it will only have what the game requires). I'm on AIM if anyone has any further questions about the code, we plan on using the code to do some mods in the future (and I hear someone wants to port it to xbox).

Don't ask me for the code, I wish it was never released, all I am doing is trying to find out how much of the code was leaked, and now I'm starting to wonder HOW, WHY and WHO.

all the code you need to make a MOD, but not the complete source code of the game like the physique, graphic and sound engine

Yes, this is my theory: Valve found that it was leaked a week ago and delayed the game, not giving us a date because they have no idea how long it will take for them to fix this

No - the SDK would only contain certain parts of the code.

No.

The source code which makes up the game, such as player movement, weapon damage, etc. was leaked somehow to the general public. Now that experienced programmers have the code, they can make modifications of their own such as game hacks to do whatever it is they wish.

downloaded it now but all i can see is code and code and even more code sorry but i am nit an expert, should i compile now everything???

I am so mad, i will rape the children of whoever leaked this, and then i will prison-style rape him too!

Ahhh, okay... finally an answer. Thank you.

With the source code out, there's no doubt in my mind that the game will be severely delayed. The WIL NOT release the game if the code leaked is at all current. A lot of code will need to be re-written to avoid cheats and authentication hacks. Could take a long time. This sucks!!!

that code is useless to anyone who isnt a experianced programmer. you cant compile it and play the game, the artwork isnt there.

You are going to rape people? Can you give me your computer then. You won't need it for the next 30-life. LOL

Funny thing is, the code looks to be written for much efficiency. If they decided to rewrite it it may not be as efficient as it is now.

That's correct except it's not.

Valve knew since a few months that they couldn't make it for the 30th September. It's not like a week prior to the release date: "Oops, we won't make it, let's delay the game by another 3-4 months"...

sorry, don't buy that theory...
