Minecraft = Love

Holy crap!

Thanks for the links Stardog!

Edit: Is that a backwards Halo logo in the lower corner of the second image? Heh.

Tried to make some reference pictures in the free version.

The wall is 30 blocks high.

As you can see in this one, you could always just lower the ground if you wanted to make something appear taller. Since there really is not "normal" ground elevation. Replacing any block with a dirt block and letting it get sun will make it grass.

Those pictures above with the ridiculously deep underground caverns and stuff might be a mod. This image seems more int he ballpark. What i'm used to messing with anyways. The caverns are still in there though.

I wish they had tooltips for some of the blocks. I always forget some of them. I'm going to edit a tileset and write words on the inventory images.

Another beginner tip - If you can't see at night, press I, then read forum threads in another tab while waiting. Having the inventory open won't pause the game.

Man, I really want to get this game but I dunno, recently I've bought a lot of 'indie' games that I've not gotten around to playing..

Can someone explain the versions to me? Like the indev infdev thing? I'll be getting this tomorrow when I head over to the bank to make a deposit. :0

Edit: This planned expansion sounds awesome.

Zombie Siege
Build your defenses during the day, fend off the incoming masses during night.

It can be quite confusing, il try to make sense of it:

There is Survival and Creative.

In survival you need to collect for resources to craft tools/armors/weapons that you can use to build and expand your base. It has a day/night cycle where all enemies come out at night. This is currently Singelplayer only, also the Free version is missing out on the Crafting features and plenty of other things.

In creative, you have unlimited resources to build whatever you want, this is what everyone plays with in multiplayer. No other purpose than to build stuff as there is no enemies, day/night cycle, or resources/tools/weapons.

Indev is the old "full" version of the Survival mode for people who bought the game, but has since been replaced with Infdev.

Infdev is the latest version that gets continously updated. The difference is that the world is now infinite (horizontally). And you can respawn when you die. This version is soon to be replaced with just "/game" that just got released.

/indev = old
/infdev = current
/game = future

So, if I just wanted to play the create whatever version, i'd get even more stuff that's not in the free one? Like explosive dynamite and such? (i want the dynamite :0)

You can get it in the free version, but it doesn't blow up.

Not that i know of, all you can do there is place and delete blocks, there is no gameplay elements in there at all. But i could be wrong.

Thanks for the client Rav.

Was so gutted last night, had this awesome base going, and in the process of building the basement I dug into a cave of giant spiders and was eaten alive :(

edit: how do you bring up the map? like Hokey's 3D one?

OMG this game is addicing!!

I'm gunna try the multiplayer too, right after I finish up God of War 3, so much fun I don't know what to play

Ok, I'm trying to build a loooooong underwater tunnel connecting the mainland to an offshore island (like in Rav's video) but I've got two concerns:

1) I'm hitting a lot of dirt so I'm worried I may still be at water level, and may flood my tunnel.

2) I'm not sure when to change the direction of the tunnel as I'm not sure how close to the island I am.

Guess I'll just keep digging...

If you want to take a peak to check where you are, just do one of these things and it wont flood your entire tunnel:

floodo.png

I like to put up small check point walls when i'm constructing tunnels just for that purpose. So, in case it does flood, you can patch up the hole and push the water out.

I broke out and was like "yay I made it!" only to find myself on the same bit of land :(

Got it and have been playing it all last night. Killed a zombie which then blew up, taking half my house. Have myself a wooden house and building a tunnel network behind it, but I can't go far because I can't craft torches (it doesn't let me)

How big is the singleplayer maps compared to the indef maps, because those caverns are huge

I was hoping they would replace character models with sprites, because I wan't to look like an imp from dungeon keeper

Reading the wiki, even the strongest material in the game seems to wear out really quickly when it comes to weapons/tools etc.

Given how fast these things seem to wear out, it makes it read as though you'll very quickly drain your surrounding area of resources and stuff, anyone that can confirm how deep the underground level actually is in the latest infdev version?

I'm not sure if you have to worry about draining the area of resources, considering that the terrain is infinitely generated and will make new stores of ore deposits and trees. The same thing happened to me, but I walked in a general direction for a couple of minutes and then built a new base.

The strongest material (diamond) is really useful, but it only has about 257 uses. Subtract one for every proper use of the tool that you crafted the diamond into, and subtract (I think) 2 for every improper use. It's still very effective.

I guess it just sounds so low when you put it into numbers, maybe it doesn't feel like it wears out that quickly in the actual game.

That video is hilarious!

That's not for real though is it, it's all an act right?

Yeah its fake, i used the sound from that "Man yelling at cats" video. Hope other ppl wont notice it tho, makes it more funny if people think its genuine lol.

I lol'd so hard when the guy started destroying his closet.

But that's a really annoying problem in Multiplayer. Anyone can destroy what you make, so if you build a huge-ass castle with a moat and the works, some idiot can just destroy everything and flood your creation. I know that it's just a game, but when people spend 1+ hours working on a project and come back later to find a mess of blocks, it kind of sucks.

But I'll admit, the game would be very boring without griefers destroying stuff. It only gives you the incentive to just rebuild and make it better.

Being a griefer (or raider, as they probably will be called) in Multiplayer Survival would be so cool. Say, for example, there's a player who built a huge castle and is storing large amounts of diamond and other ores in their castle. You could organize a group of raiders to bust into his castle, smash and grab, and haul ass out of there before he gets his diamond sword. That would be AWESOME.

Stick/wood/planks are limitless because you can replant shrubs you get from attacking tree leaves. It takes 2 day/night cycles to grow.

http://www.minecraft.net/infdev/preview.jsp

If you get lost at night, stick down some torches around you, save, then switch that map to night time.

I have yet to find any diamond, only iron/coal and 1 gold ore. I found the gold right down deep amongst lava an bedrock.

I also haven't found any of the secret ruins.

Good to know about the wood, then at least I can build a huge wooden castle without worrying about running out of resources.

How do torches work by the way, do they ever run out of "fuel"?

If one converts the current Euro price to USD it's around 12.2-12.3 dollars.

Dammit. That means imma have to choose between CoD package and Minecraft. I have the money for both, but I don't feel like making another trip to the bank to deposit 3 dollars. :l

They dont right now, but I read on the forum somewhere that there are plans for them to burn out. I guess there will be permanent alternatives.

So could someone give a detailed summary of what the game is about?

You build something, and that's it? Or do you put enemies in it and make your own arena or something. So far it just seems like you build a lego house.

So, a DLC or a half-made game? I guess that is a hard decision.

DLC? It's four full games and one expansion pack (united offensive). :0

I bought that, Left 4 Dead (since it was on sale) and i'll have minecraft tomorrowz.
