I fall sometimes, but its easy if you make walkway supports while walking slowly. try changing the options and adding a shift key to sneak or walk slowly
 
How does one open the world contained in that zip file? I tried making a "world2" directory and unzipping the contents of the "world" directory into it but it didn't show up. Was there a new version of the client?
 
I think you'd have to get the minecraftserver software and set up your own server with that world. There's probably an SMP to SP converter though.

Lava buckets power something like 100 smelts in a furnace, while coal does like 7 or 8 and wood does 2 or 3.

Wood is really the best option since it's so cheap, but if you have a ton of coal that's good too. Wasting 3 iron (since you lose the bucket) for every stack and a half of smelted ore is bad so lava buckets aren't very efficient unless you are absolutely swamped with excess iron.

In SMP, you could always use the /iron command. At the rate that you can use it, you could probably create a new bucket whenever you wanted.

The torches on that map are a lime green.

Except for some, though. But the flowers are a bit dimmer than the yellow torches.
 
Oh, wow. That explains alot. People have still been traveling far and wide, though, which is neat. Especially whoever went really far south and built a lighthouse/cabin thing. (right side of the cartograph map)
 
Will be awesome as the world continues to grow more dense with buildings and stuff, and we can make maps detailing everything.
 
I was able to load the map by the way. I think I had launched the game before it had finished unzipping. Unzipping the save's irresponsibly dense file tree takes a while .... Really damn impressive you guys.
 
You should play online, sometime.

This is a weird island in a sense. Kind of unique from what I've seen in that the whole base of it is made up almost entirely on a foundation of gravel. If you need lots of gravel, for roads or whatever, this is the island to come to.

Just bought the game a couple of days ago. Tried building a mob-killing/loot collecting machine yesterday, but it failed miserably, not a single mob went anywhere near it :(. Maybe I just picked a bad spot..

Man if there's anything more depressing in Minecraft than spending an hour mining out phat lootz and falling deep into lava thereby losing your entire inventory, I don't know what it is.
 
Can't someone with a good connection just host a vent server occasionally? It'd be free and we'd probably appreciate it more. You don't know what you've got until it's gone, and all that.
 
The up-speed(3Mbit) seems a bit low, but then again I'm not 100% sure on how demanding Ventrilo is when it comes to upwards bandwidth from the host.
 
Finally got around to finishing my wall. in less than a few days i went from nothing to something. I will touch it up a lot and like my shitty looking house I'll clean it up big time.
