Minecraft = Love

lol at that

Uh sorry I thought it was obvious? All rock looks exactly alike, I would have thought you'd realize the rock with the black chunks in it was coal.

Well, it didn't matter anyways because I still didn't come across any like that until I went around specifically looking for those blocks. I didn't know they existed until I saw the video. Anyways, i don't feel so bad about the game after playing for a few more minutes and actually finding coal, and being able to alt-tab with the inventory up helps. I'm going to bed though, and will give it a real run through tomorrow, and probably join the server.

A bit of confusion is natural at first, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. This is helpful until you have an idea of what everything is (the coloured cloth is in creative mode only):

-That theres nothing in game to tell you the recipies.
This is planned, just read the wiki for now.
-That it doesn't tell you the name of shit, I found some shit that looked almost exactly like coal, but the graphic was slightly different, so it wasn't. And the only way you could tell was that there was a small highlight on it, where the coal didn't have that on it's icon. ****ing dumb
That's probably flint. You can use it to make arrows. Also, it's not like there are millions of types of materials to use. You'll learn what everything is pretty fast.
-Day/Night cycles are way too fast. Even if monsters werent such a major problem for a starting player, its still lame how short the day is.
If you don't like the monsters just play on peaceful. Imagining how boring it would be waiting around for ages if the nights were half an hour long.
-Alt-tabbing/alt-esc/windows key all pause the game, so theres no way to wait in the game while doing something else on your computer. Major pain when trying to wait for night to end.
Open the inventory and then alt-tab.

Also the sound doesn't work for me, though a googling says its a temporary problem because an updates going to fix it. All in all, I can't say my first impressions about the game are good. I can see it being fun when you start crafting and building shit... but the whole mining business seems awful.
Dude. It's in alpha. The game is no where near close to being out. What you have is access to an early alpha from pre-ordering a game that is not close to release.

Sales of one man indie game hit, Minecraft, have surpassed $250,000 per day.

According to stats provided by developer, Mojang, one copy of the €9.95 ($13) game is currently being purchased every 3 seconds, representing sales of $15,000 per hour.

That means 1 million dollars in 4 days if the rate remains the same.

ofcourse, he has to pay taxes and other fees, but its still a shitton. I wonder how he handles this sudden richness personally and mentally. I mean, its not everyday you wake up and check your bank balance and theres an additional ~100000 dollars just chillin there. I wonder if any of his old friends from highschool are calling him up "heeey buddy, havent seen u in a long time, lets hangout and pretend to be friends so i can manipulate you into buying me shit cuz we are total bros, remember?".

He deserves it. He's brought joy to so many people. Some anger too, but mostly joy.

Keep this page open while playing - http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting

Oh, and whoever built that sign post thing in the water near spawn, they made a "to vegeta's" sign that points in the wrong direction. It should be pointing directly east from where it is.

That's a buoy you dolt. It's pointing to the water passage near Mellish's house. There's another one that direction that points again towards your house.

It's not a direct guidance to your house, it's a waterway guidance. What, you expect someone on a boat to just simply boat on over to your place?

I made it, but I didn't have any good designs for a buoy.

Disappointed to hear that Krynn doesn't like the game.

Wait till you find your first awesome untouched cave system.

Wow - this games just keeps on amazing me, found and amazing Cavern Network beside where my house is set up, spent about 20 min just walking around lighting the place up a little.

Also, would anyone be against having streetnames for the major roads / streets?
If took KA and I about 10 min to find each other without jumping right next to spawn...

I've had it with these mother****ing boats. I hope they get fixed soon or at least Notch specifies when they break, cause right now it doesn't make much sense. I tried rebuilding the canal going down from my castle in a way that I could use it as a waterslide with a boat, but the boat always breaks somewhere, sometimes at the very start for, it would seem, no reason.

Not a help with the breaking, but just something handy for boats:
How to successfully dock a boat

I know that. But everything I've heard about the game so far has been nothing short of foaming at the mouth from it's greatness. Then when I play it, I sit around breaking blocks for an hour. :| It may be in alpha, but are you going to tell me that the core gameplay of minecraft is ever not going to be mining? I just don't find it very fun, and don't see how its going to be fun. Unless you can get something later to automate the mining aspect, and then all you have to do is actual prospecting, maybe it will be more fun for me since the focus will have shifted much more towards building.

Anyways, I'm going to start playing again. We'll see how it plays out this time.

Vegeta sent that to me, but every link I click on 404's. I'm pretty sure its not even supposed to look like this.

Also, Ennui (or whoever has the power to do so) could you please make the storage area for the Road Beautification Project larger? I had some stuff that i wanted to drop by and its full...

Just make a new chest and put it there. It only takes like two pieces of lumber.

What do I put in the second slot of the furnace to smelt ore?

You could put wood, coal or buckets filled with lava in there. Buckets with lava last the longest, but consume the bucket in the process.

I thought you could only use coal.

I thought you couldn't make an infinite lava source in the same way you could with water. Is there some other method of doing it? Also, you'd still need to waste iron on buckets...

Infinite lava spring isn't possible, unlike water.

Lava buckets power something like 100 smelts in a furnace, while coal does like 7 or 8 and wood does 2 or 3.

Wood is really the best option since it's so cheap, but if you have a ton of coal that's good too. Wasting 3 iron (since you lose the bucket) for every stack and a half of smelted ore is bad so lava buckets aren't very efficient unless you are absolutely swamped with excess iron.

It's the map itself, I'm going to make the render as soon as I finish downloading.

Okay good. I was going to say, a 53MB image is kind of overkill. Unless it's a bitmap.

Awww... This was done before my latest renovation changes. Oh well, I still have a ton more to do.

****ing minecraft. I keep coming home to play minecraft instead of civ 5.

CIV 5 TIME NOW.

I just looked at your guys world, it's pretty impressive

How are you making the sky bridges that are really long? The only way I know to do that it just to lean over the edge and place a block but that's very time consuming and easy to fall and have to climb back up.

Use the newfangled crouch... you don't fall anymore. Makes sky bridges easy peasy.

****ing cartograph. Always crashes on me now, I guess the world is too big for it/my pc to handle.

people may look at me like this:

o_O

when I tell them I don't play much Halo: Reach anymore, i play Minecraft

Same problems here, vegeta.

Stardog, care to try it again?
