Nintendo World (3DS stuff)

I am pretty much definitely buying one of these. I never owned any version of a DS... my last handheld purchased was a GBA SP. I'm really excited about this though (mostly because of Starfox 64 + Ocarina of Time remakes, plus the potential for other beloved N64 games to get a bit of a facelift and a new release). I am sort of reluctant to buy one when it comes out since Nintendo always releases better/cooler versions of their handhelds later (DSi, GBA SP, etc) but I don't think I can hold out not buying one for very long.

Ugh, Professor Layton looks awful with those blocky 3D characters. This is my number one reason for being weary about the 3DS - that publishers won't be willing to put out any more 2D games, or at least very few. 2D was integral to the charm of so many DS games, I just really hope they don't all make an awkward N64-esque jump to 3D just to fit the new hardware.

Paper Mario 3DS? Similar gameplay to the N64/GC ones? Hell yes! I might get a 3DS one day.
I think the better joystick gives it so much more potential than the first DS.

I wouldn't be too afraid of that, those games are obviously also meant as tech demos/marketing tools. It was pretty much the same with the first DS.

I know it's all about the games but it looks a bit underpowered for yet to be released technology. Oh, Nintendo.

It would be nice to be able to add extra detail to games, instead of having to drop things to keep the framerate up.

I suspect much of it is that youtube videos just aren't doing [the framerate and clarity] justice. Obviously, it's also 3D, in person.

RE Mercenaries looks interesting from that short clip.

It's a handheld device for God's sake! Do you want the battery to last more than ten minutes or not? It's more powerful than a Wii. I think that's enough for a screen that's less than four inches across.

It lasts three hours or more padded , whoopty ****ing doo, so glad they shorted on the tech

But most of the cost is in the screen more than likely, and the man boy journalists who spazzed at E3

Don't care about battery life very much. I would pretty much only use it at home. :p

I am looking forward to batteries that recharge on air. They supposedly could be here (in our gadgets) within 5 years.

Gonna buy this so hard.

ffs my household already has 4 ds' spanning pretty much every DS gen. guess we'll eventually get the 3d one. sigh

You'll end up buying the next three revisions of it, too.

You'll get three to five hours of play in 3D, with five to eight hours of play with classic DS games.
Of course, the system's required three-and-a-half hours of charge time could be another problem, since portable devices should ideally work for longer than it takes to charge them.
**** that shit. Turn up the horsepower!

When I was a kid I built an RC model car, hooked it up with the fastest spinning race motor and the biggest battery pack that I could use without melting wires and shit. The ****ing thing charged overnight, and worked for about 10 minutes at a time - but it would drive like 35 MPH and it was a blast. Then they came out with 15 minute quick chargers and life was good. Can't they do that?

I had one of the RC cars that took like 4 hours to "fully" charge but only 15 minutes for the "quick" charge. Guess what, the quick charge was a load of BS.

To answer your question, the 3DS has shitty battery life / charge time not because Nintendo is skimping on the battery but because IT TAKES A GODDAMN LOT OF JUICE

also they need something to improve in later versions of the 3DS so people buy it again

I had the full professional racing model kits and parts. Futaba or nothing. You had to build the car yourself from a thousand parts.

What I was saying was that battery technology changed significantly while I was in the hobby, and I'm older than you, so I don't think we can relate on that. (12 hours becoming mere minutes is a total game-changer). But in my experience, quick charge was a dream. It was better than swapping batteries and/or waiting until tomorrow.

Now, I'm aware that these aren't even the same battery types, I'm just kind of wondering what happened to fast charging? A good charger is capable of maintaining a battery correctly. But back on topic, I think 3-5 hours in 3D is great. That's my other point. How long can you stare at 3D anyway? I can barely make it through a movie. Also, it lasts twice as long in 2D mode.

The DS will have car chargers of course, and a little dock to sit it on which will maintain the battery at home, when you aren't playing.

Just wait for the longer battery version to come out if it really bothers you. I don't doubt there will be something to such an effect.

This. I thought the games looked amazing for a handheld, and not too bad without that qualifier either.

I really really want this. But I really really am going to have to force myself for it to be cheaper.

Yeah, I don't see myself forking out even $200. Then again, I don't have a jorb.

As tempted as I am, my position isn't changed on this one. Whatever games get released between February and the oh so inevitable second version won't be worth all the flaws you buy into. The battery life sounds absolutely dire, but dire from the official source? (Battery life is always a 'best case scenario', right?) Actually, ignoring the fact that you're not forking over for the batteries (which is kind of the point, but sssh), the 3DS has the same battery life that wikipedia says the freaking Game Gear had. The price I can stomach, I guess. And the Kid Icarus trailer makes me hopeful we'll see an original 3D Mario Platformer on the console (because if we just do the remake schtick, next in line is Sunshine. Yeah, exactly).

Day Four Hundred And Sixty Nine Purchase For Me.

Re: Professor Layton. Can we have Professor Layton 4 in a vaguely timely manner? I may not be entirely capable of keeping my resolve if I can't have a Layton game next Christmas.

Very sensible. Very boring. Waiting doesn't sound much like fun to me. I'll be there on launch day, 3DS in hand and feeling like a little kid who's managed to sneak into the Batcave. Console launches are the best thing about gaming. Give in to it, you know you wanna.

I really want more info on Fantasy Life, that game has really caught my interest.

Probably not gonna get the 3DS on launch(I sold my DSi XL after a week), but there are certainly more upcoming titles for it that interests me than there ever was for the DS.

None of the launch games really catch my eye though, so I can afford to wait on this for a bit.

MGS, RE and Fantasy Life are the franchises/titles that interests me the mosts and as far as I know none of them are launch-titles.

I have to admit that part of the reason I'll be buying one of these is in hopes that we'll see remakes of Donkey Kong 64, Shadows of the Empire or other excellent N64 titles that have long since gone the way of the dodo.

OH GOD GIVE ME CONKERS BAD FUR DAY

I thought it was supposed to be $300?
$250 at most I think. But my use of the word 'even' was there to say that I probably wont be getting it at all at launch ($200 is a very liberal price I'd say).

Yeah the little kid who snuck in, got caught and was forced to dress up in tighty spandex shorts and call himself Robin ffs until one of battards enemies (hint Joker) kills you cause batman cant figure out how to take a case federal or just ****ing kill them instead just dumping them in EZ escape Island. In short, a SUCKER

To all those saying its either more horsepower or better battery, you do realize there are more than one make of lithium battery and Nintendo is marking this up heavily right

I get the horrible sense youll see every N64 game except Banjo Kazooie

Ditto, although I won't hold my breath for Rare titles.

Me either, which is really a goddamn shame since Rare made so many quality 64 titles. I also don't have much hope for LucasArts titles like Shadows of the Empire or Rogue Squadron but hey I can dream.

A remake of Smash 64 with wireless multiplayer would be pretty epic though, and totally within the realm of possibility...

I would probably get it on launch if I had the money, but I probably won't have the money (but I do have a birthday coming up).

Hmmm £230. Bit too steep for me.

I'm probably going to wait until they bring out the next version of the 3DS. Should be a lot more games around by then for me to play too.

Way too expensive, don't think I'm getting it any time soon at $250(dunno how they will translate it to euros). Might pick up a second hand one if I can get one for like 100 euro.

game.co.uk has prices for software at £40

**** THAT NOISE! D=
