No T & A at E3 2006

It's just about having a good time. The girls are having fun, the guys are having fun, what's the big deal?
Correction: The girls are getting paid, the guys are having more fun because of the paid girls. ;)

Just because something doesn't allow minors doesn't mean it has to have T & A in it.

At the same time, the Amerika must CENSORIZE EVERYTHING mentality is getting goddamn annoying. When is it stopped before we are all turned into grey blobs of unidentifying boring-ness?

THERE'S NO NUDITY EVER!!!!

the booth babes are not even my type of woman, but that doesnt stop me from looking or even commenting on them: they do absolutely nothing for me sexually . jeez some of you guys are so uptight it's not funny

oh and thanks to Quixoticism for making this statement about Uriel: "Putting up with this humanist worldview."

lol, that was the laugh of the day

If the gaming world wants a better reputation to the general public then this is a good idea. It will just make the event a lot classier.

Besides, games should sell themselves on the E3 floor. They shouldn't need booth babes to attract attention to them.

Sure a lot of people will be disapointed by not seeing booth babes but there is a reason why many other expos and shows don't use them.

on some level, i agree with you on the "being taken seriously" part as far as the game industry goes but isn't rather sad and hypocritical that in these other industries women and sex are used to sell products all the time yet for gaming to be taken seriously, it needs to rid itself of booth babes.

it just bothers me a little that other industries are not held to the same standard the gaming industry is being forced to reach. :frown:

edit: Stern, should i dare ask what types of women you are "into" :P

It's so funny how you guys try to pass off the need for booth babes as admiring the female form or something, hahahahahaha

You obviously didn't read and comprehend what I was trying to say. It was in response to Uriel's comment that those that look at nudes are weak and shallow. I was asking if they would look at the ancient sculptors as weak and shallow for looking at a nude body and sculpting it.

I wasn't using that as a justification for having ladies at E3. :| Try to read more carefully next time.

The media and politicians have lowered the image of the gaming community. They've sensationalized everything that has came to light; much like they have done with crime rates an juvenile crime.

Games do sell themselves though. The stats and annual industry earnings prove that. It's just part of the atmosphere to make it fun. It's an event that people go to to have fun. E3's motto is, "Where business gets fun".

I don't want gaming to turn into one of these "other industries" you mention. (@ Dr. Freeman)

The media and politicians have lowered the image of the gaming community.
Well, we can't stop the media, now can we?
What can we stop? The SOURCE of the problem. Booth babes. And we did. Done.

It seems to me that this is about cleaning up the image that people have gotten of videogames after Hillary Clinton and Jack Thompson and Hot Coffee. Undoubtedly they are trying not to get any more bad press, but I still strongly oppose the censorship this basically is. No more women in beer ads or car ads or lingerie ads either! Wouldn't want to offend anyone in this ass-backwards country!

Still, the girls always made the uber-geeks there very uncomfortable and I for one am glad that there will be no more awkward snapshots of them together.

you dont want the gaming industry to become like other industries ..I'm pointing out that as media gaming can and will (one day) be compared to art literature or film ..instead of as kiddie games they are today. If you dont push the envolope you dont evolve

I forgot, Stern posted this, Religion must be discussed. BECAUSE THATS ALL YOU TALK ABOUT. Before I was Mormon I still didnt like nudity/pornography/etc. I view guys who involve themselves with that as shallow and weak. Real Men dont need porn/booth babes.

Stop thinking you're better than anyone else just because you've established some kind of personal agenda that you're going to follow because you think it'll, somehow, make you a more perfected person. Keep that to yourself.

Most people do actually like to look at porn/booth babes even though they "get pussy" in real life. Real men don't try to deny some part of themselves in hopes to aspire perfection but stand for what they are.

Lest ye forget, "self improvement is masturbation"

some of you guys are so uptight it's not funny

Don't forget where you're posting this.. people on the internet are so ****ing annoying

Beer and Car ads can keep their women. Gaming is an industry unlike those. And I want to keep it that way.

Dr. Freeman was referring to other industries that use women to advertise... Now I'm pretty sure literature and film don't use women in their ads. (Does literature even have ads?) :p

You assume you can't stop the media. When you have a defeatist attitude, you won't. As gamers, it's partly our responsibility to get the word out that things that the media says is untrue and sensationalized.

I never said I didn't like it... I don't think anyone said that. It's quite obvious every guy here likes to look at girls, don't misunderstand us just because we aren't disliking the idea of no booth babes.

But yet you're complaining that you couldn't watch it on your parents big screen TV because of it. Again, don't spoil the fun of others just because you're embarrassed that your parents might see you watching some girls on TV.

What!? I said I didn't want my PARENTS seeing me watch that kind of stuff, I never said that I didn't want to see it... Why do you keep misunderstanding? And how am I spoiling anything? It wasn't my decision to get rid of the babes.

What is this, some kind of insult? FYI I don't read gaming magazines at all.

-Whatever, I can't seem to get you guys to understand my view so I'll just leave it at this:

No Booth Babes = Less camera shots on the babes, and more on the GAMES.

Think about why those industries use that kind of marketing. It works. They've been successful with those strategies. Sure, I think some beer commercials are just stupid but I'm not going to go out and tell people to stop watching it just because I disagree with it. It did occur to me one day that others might like something that I don't. Apparently, many people haven't been enlightened with that knowledge.

i was trying to point out the double standard the games industry is held to and less about the women and sex part.
if at some point, gamers want the rest of the people to take gaming and gamers seriously, sex or no sex, women, or no women, it all has to be treated equal.

right now, the gaming industry does not get a fair shake, booth babes or not.

Wow, no matter how many times I say it, you just don't seem to grasp it. I'm not even going to try anymore. I think simply quoting that line speaks for itself.

It says it right there. You don't want your parents to see you watching it.

Yes, but how am I spoiling the fun for others? I just don't understand why you say that. Please answer this, don't make me mad :(

But he's right, vegeta.

Your parents have been kids too, they should know you like girls, though it's even dubious to us whether you really do or not when you prefer to watch muscular macho game heroes instead of booth babes. jokes aside, stop being so afraid of who you are. you certainly shouldn't have to excuse yourself for your parents.

That part I understand. But for the last 3-4 of my posts I keep asking him how I'm "ruining the fun for others" and he doesn't answer.

vegeta897 said:

You're so afraid of your parents seeing you watching some girls on TV, you think they have to get rid of the "booth babes" just so you can comfortably watch your shows. Granted, the rule is already in place but your insecurities don't help the situation much. Therefore, you're trying to spoil what others think of as fun.

Think about strip clubs for example. I've gone to some because it's fun. It's fun to go out with the guys, have some drinks, some laughs, and look at some naked chicks. I find that fun. However, there are other people out there that say that it's immoral and degrading because of their religious beliefs or what have you. The underlying issue isn't with morals, but rather their self esteem and insecurities. Because they're unable to enjoy the same thing, they want others to be the same so they feel like they "fit in". In addition, people fight for legislation to ban strip clubs even though you have consenting adults just having fun. So should it be banned because of people's personal problems? No.

I think he meant people who would censor games altogether ..like the soccor moms who think GTA is disgusting yet they're the ones that bought it for their 13 yr son in the first place

oh and the moral police WILL win, they already have

Sure that may be true, but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

"Now it's less camera shots on the babes, and more on the GAMES."

the photos of the babes are usually secondary ..have you ever had to wade through pages of boothbabes to get to the game content?

But wait, when has there ever been a shortage of screenshots or movies of games when E3 rolls around? When have you ever seen someone complain that they're showing too many booth babes? Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy, etc. always have tons of game media to show when E3 is in full swing. I usually find the content they provide as overwhelming. Tons of screenshots, movies, and articles that I'll never be able to get through. But I'm still happy it's there. :) They usually have one feature on booth babes every year.

I actually meant TV stuff... In which case it's exclusive and if they spend less time on camera shots (as in video camera) of booth babes, it will be more on the imo more exciting stuff like presentations and junk.

Well, no wonder you're missing all that stuff. You can find far better features online. G4TV isn't all that great with presenting material. You'd be better off browsing the major game sites. You've been looking in the wrong places. Gamespot usually features live shows from E3 every year. Try them when E3 comes up.

Just look at your 6 o' clock news shows. They present news but it's not nearly as good as reading an article from an established newspaper or online article. You have to seek out the information yourself.

It's just that TV is more exciting with live video that I don't have to sit and wait to download.

Well, we're getting into arguing preference now, I think we're done here :p

Yeah, but you only go into a strip club if you want to. A strip club isn't the world's biggest expo for new games. A strip club isn'y where the entire industry gathers to show off their latest wares (well, it might be but that's not the point). Of course, a strip club is considerably more lewd that booth babes.

You know, whatever. I don't really care that much but I do think it was seedy, silly, crude and a little embarassing. Your crazy American sports are already established and, unlike gaming, don't need to prove that they're not just for geeks and losers. They don't have the dire need to cast off negative stigma that gaming does.

PS: lol @ Uriel.

I don't think it's possible for me to care less about this.

The more proffessional gaming seems the better. Videogames with nudity/partial nudity etc should still be shown at the expo, I feel.

Actually, that is much more of an important issue than the bizarely-clad females. I wonder why they would do this, and what games this will end up affecting... and if Whacko Jacko has something to do with their decision.

Woah, woah. Hold on there Sulk. I was using that example to mainly explain the psychological and, perhaps, sociological problems we have when determining what activities should be banned. It wasn't meant to be interrpreted in the way you described.

Whoops. D: Fair enough. I misinterpreted because of the preceding line: "Therefore, you're trying to spoil what others think of as fun."

Wait a minute, it's not JUST the booth babes they're banning? ALL sexually explicit content? No adult games or games including sexual content? That's RIDICULOUS. Suddenly I agree with Stern etc. Booth babes is one thing because they're stupid and look stupid but cenzoring all the games too...BAH! Unleash the Yuribot.
