You might have to create a new account, though I'm not positive. It shouldn't bill you at all, as I'm currently on this trial. I'm a former player, but made a new account and everything to have everything clean and figured why not use the free week before subscribing again.

This game is really fun to play, especially when you join an outfit (clan/organization which can have an unlimited amount of players; some have 700+).

Just a headsup, you will have to wait a while for the game to fully patch, depending on your internet connection. I'm on Road Runner and it took me roughly 90 minutes or so to download all of the updated content.

While waiting for the game to patch, I seriously suggest reading up on the armor types, weapons, vehicles, etc. at the official site so when you log in you don't feel like a total newbie. And don't be put down by dying a lot at first. Since the game is fully PVP, there are no newbie areas or anything, so you can go up against a fully armed veteran at any time.

Finally, I suggest at first sticking with the majority of your empire's population. Oh and this is a big tip you should all read before playing:

BEFORE JUMPING INTO BATTLE, GO INTO THE VIRTUAL REALITY ROOM AND JUST EQUIP EVERY WEAPON, ITEM, ETC. TO GAIN THE EXPERIENCE FROM EACH ONE. SAME GOES FOR THE VEHICLES. YOU START AT BATTLE RANK 1 AND CAN REACH UP TO BATTLE RANK 3 IN JUST 20 MINUTES.

Underneath that box you'll see a picture with letters in it, then under that another box. Copy the letters you see into the box and hit enter...it's a safeguard against bots filling out the form.

hey guys I am downloading the game now.. anyone want to get together with me and train or do missions? It would make a lot more sence then just running around for hours trying to fine a squad.

Im going to try this out. I always like when MMO games have their free trials, that way I know what im missing out on. ;(

If I like this I will consider getting it, but WOW is probably a much better game. I always wanted to coordinate an attack with 100+ people in a first person shooter.

Ah I loved this game when it first came out. Best. Game. Ever. For the first 2 weeks that is. I'd normally dl but it looks like the actual gun fights are the same and thats one of the main things I hated, the gun fights just werent fun at all.

eh well some liked it, but for me it was the mix of the aiming system which is slow, the lag and how it could be an uneven playing field at times. The gameplay really just isnt as fun as other FPSs' if it was alittle more faster and had the gameplay of say DoD then it would be perfect, but sadly it doesnt. Just my opinion though you may enjoy it.

Let me just explain something first:

I, once again, seriously suggest that all newcomers read up on the game at the official site found at http://planetside.station.sony.com/. You will learn a lot and will probably receive more respect than someone asking a question about a weapon or piece of equipment every two seconds.

Now, just like in any game, there is lingo. I'll go over some of the basics here:

LFS = Looking For Squad
LFSM = Looking For Squad Members
LFO = Looking For Outfit
Alt = Non-Primary character
TR = Terran Republic
NC = New Conglomerate
VS = Vanu Sovereignty
CC = Core Combat (expansion pack)
BFR = Battle-Frame Robotics
BR = Battle Rank ("level")
CR = Command Rank (command "level")
BEP = Battle Experience Point (experience point give through kills or base captures)
CEP = Command Experience Point (experience point given from base captures)

Those are just a few of the terms you'll see.

Most battles, unless you are with an outfit (big clan) will be fun, but not as organized as they could be.

The highest BR you can attain is BR20, and the highest CR obtainable is CR5. This may sound like low values, but it takes very very long to advance in these ranks. At first advancing in BR may seem easy, but the higher ranks require more BEPs/CEPs.

There aren't any quests or anything. Basically you travel with companions capturing bases to acquire more land for your empire. That may sound boring, but it certainly isn't. As a commander, you are given access to special features. Troops aren't forced to follow your every command. At the highest CR you can send global messages that are received by everyone in your empire anywhere in the game. Most CR5s coordinate all of your empire's troops well, so look out for them.

The keymapping options may overwhelm you at first glance, but in the long run you use less than half of the commands given to you.

I hope you all enjoy this game and consider subscribing. Only $13.00 a month, and it certainly keeps you busy, especially if you join an organized outfit.

This is where the game has changed dramatically. The netcode has vastly improved. I almost never get any lag anymore! Also, the playing fields are always balanced now. The devs added incentives for playing on a less populated empire, like increased health and experience received. Also, every continent has a population lock for each empire to reduce lag and keep the playing fields fair. You can still have over 100 soldiers on a continent from your empire at a time though. Or it might be locked at 100, but it's still a lot.

I've found the e-mail time varies. When I first did it I received it promptly, but tonight I tested it and it still hasn't come....

The intro movie only plays the first time to give you some info on the story behind the game.

I've only play VS ever since I've started. I tried the TR for a little bit but didn't like them as much as the VS. For some reason I refuse to play as the NC. I find them to be the "bad guys" in PS. I still love to loot JackHammers though.

Isnt this part of the whole "Guerilla Marketing" thread at the planetside forums?

I play Planetside, and its great fun. Theres not a game out there that can come close to what Planetside delivers.

I agree with one post on the PS forums though, theres gonna be alot more people with 'No Outfit' below their names

I wish there where MMORPG games for my type. Giving up the monthly fee, I would happily play NPC monsters, new ones every day
I just want to play, not level or make a life inside the game... I want an army of orcs and an unsuspecting player village...

Kind of sad no MMORPG designer has ever thought of that, offering the monster positions for free so that the actual player get something else than stupid AI to fight from time to time.

Finding a big fight is easy, just look on the interstellar map and find the hotspots on continents, or go hack a base and let the fight come to you

And a new feature they added maybe 1-2 months ago was the new Battle Frame Robotics (BFRs). Chances are that if there are a few of those nearby, theres a big fight.

I played planetside for a month, and i think i'll have another go. I returned the discs to the shop and deleted my account, But i made a copy of the discs (i only did it because it was the ONLY game that my CD rewriter could copy )- so i think all i need is the patch.

I played it since release (2003), for 3 months when i gave it up for SWG... then i returned sometime this year (It's still 2004 for another 11 hours) and i quit about october.

I'm *thinking* about coming back - but i want to know if it's gotten any better... it sucked when i quit (Played on Werner, BR20 CR4 NC)

Yea that;s what i've done. Took about 2 hours to update (i have 700k internet, don't know how long it would take for you). Anyway, i'll tell you guys what server i'm on as well as what race i am. It just finished updating

The lag is fixed now. Anyway, I thought the VS were called Fish heads.

Everyone on the european server, lets be new conglomerate so we can work together. They are hard hitting but not very agile- but tbh your army doesn't really matter. As long as we are together on the same server, we'll have loads of fun so everyone from europe be new conglomerate ok?
