First attempt at making something like on Detrimentalist, though it's fairly similar to that Cobra Starship remix I did. (Uses the same vocal rexes)

Was really fun to make, though challenging at times to keep it catchy sounding. And as much as I expanded it from my original layout, it's still only 2 minutes. I think it's okay with that length considering how fast it moves though.

That was excellent and brutal and relentless and I really liked it. Mannn *envy*

final versions, numerous changes to the first one, both are less heavily compressed as well

haha ****ing kickass!

I started making this at around 7pm yesterday, finished it 13 hours later and it's sounding pretty sweet I think: Beam, or try putfile if that doesn't work.
I kept turning down the volume of the hi hats because they were irritating after a while. I think I made them too quiet.
Actually the whole track sounds kind of muffled...I cba to fix it and reupload though - EDIT: Yes I can. Updated above link also. :p

Man so many songs I'll just post this and then tomorrow do a huge multiquote response, k.

That's pretty lame man. I've got a pro account for a while, because I was in the beta. Then again, more than five tracks a month is a pretty big ask, for me at least. I still haven't multiquoted. Sorry.

I'm still looking for a place to stream my songs that uses a proprietary media player and allows plenty of songs, where people don't have to register just to hear it.

I don't want to stream my songs using Windows MediaPlayer or the Apple player... and Myspace only allows 6 songs.

I've been wondering about the one that 'theotherguy' uses. Bandamp.

So SoundCloud only allows 5 uploads per month unless I give them money :|

Daft. I really like how it progresses. 02.00ish is ****ing great. Could be balanced abit. The bass feels like it's attenuated at the wrong frequency, could use a drop in the midrange, let some of the sounds leave room for the others so it won't be so muddy.

The panning in the start doesn't fit in, it's just annoying. good use of samples. Reminds me abit of the C&C music, but with an oriental twist.

This SoundCloud thing is rather nice. I don't really release five tracks a month anyway, so that's not really a concern.

Also, I'm afraid at what this thread is becoming. Isn't a WIP thread supposed to be about comments and feedback? The last few pages have been people just posting tracks. I dunno. I've tried to comment a few tracks every time I come into this thread, but the shear amount of tracks is daunting. Granted you don't have an opinion on everything you hear, but... just starting to seem like a spamfest.

I'll probably be dumping my few paragraphs worth of cents in here soon. Just haven't been able to contribute anything I really liked for a while. =\

This is common in internet music forums. alot of people are lazy and just want praise for their own work to inflate their ego

Thanks for the tips. Yeah I really need to learn how/put more effort into eq/mixing properly :\

Personally I like the large amount of tracks posted lately. I listen to everything posted in this thread and if I have any thoughts on something I comment on it. I got a bit carried away with track posting myself because I just recently started liking what I made and was actually finishing stuff.
I might post one more horribly eq'd track and then stop until I have a better grasp of stuff. I also want to try using something other than Reason but I don't know what...

It's difficult sometimes when you don't have strong opinions on something. Like I'll listen to tracks, and be all 'that's really good', but saying 'that's really good' seems a bit shallow. I dunno, it's very infrequent that I have a good word of advice, plus that makes me feel like I'm trying to be better than people?

A perfect example! I really enjoyed this track, and I can't think of any advice to offer. It's a great piece of relatively laid back music.

I mean, compliments are good, but that's all I have? I dunno, bro.

You guys use too high bit rate. I cannot stream a 256 - 320 KB/s track. It takes about 5 minutes to buffer, plays for about 10 seconds, then buffers for a minute, repeat.

I listen to them all and comment when I'm at the public library, but I haven't been able to do that in a few weeks.

To get better at EQing, just do it and really listen (Helps a lot if you have studio monitors). Generally though, as a piece of advice, it is better to take away frequencies then to add frequencies.

Thanks fliko, I am getting Audio-technica ATH-M50s that they classify as 'studio monitor headphones,' but you probably meant speakers right?
I might get a simple 2.1 system to test how stuff sounds on it but I mostly use headphones.

Anyway, hooray for throwing in random samples everywhere...and really boring drums: http://media.putfile.com/Wavehax---IBL
(not the horribly eq'd one I mentioned before)

Well, I had fun making this one, but in a lot of ways I think it sounds unpolished/messy. I think the open high hat thing might be wrecking it?
I'm not sure how I did EQ-wise in the rest of the track either.
I also uploaded it to SoundCloud, but it converts to a lower bitrate which messed it up a bit.

cool track. very electro. put a highpass filter on the hihat. the bass has too much midrange imho, it could use some minor layering (another OSC halfway in or something) and a disco smile EQ. The bass drum could be abit lower maybe, it feels abit cheesy and the punch is too much in the mid range.

love the pad/chords! very strong track, put some work into it and you'll have a banger on your hands. :)

That link seems to be broken?

Effort put in, not very serious.
[edit] - the last ten or so seconds has been cut off. Just imagine the best song ending you've ever heard, but far less good.
5 minutes, but, in a way, more serious.

Both are WIP's, I guess.

I like the several variations to the bass, but I found it to be too dominant. The pads/whatever were nice but didn't seem to get the same attention as the bass. The drums could use more variation.

Effort put in, not very serious.

First one is pretty fun. I like your chiptunes influence.

Second's drums are neat... but doesn't go anywhere.

The soundcloud thing is cool. Comments = excellent. When I start beatmaking again I'll def. start using it.

That'd be putfile messing up then. Should be working now =)

ok first track.. balance the melodies with the beat before smacking an ultramaximizer on your mix bus. it's close to unlistenable at the volume it's supposed to. i don't like the gating, it's too drastic.

Other than that the track itself is good, i like the melody, especially the 303-ish lines, they work real well with the rest of the track. Bass is pretty cool too. Didn't like the nintendo sounds.
The dark bass thing later in is way cool. Wow, real stupidisco vibe going on later in at the dissonant part! Let's get RETARDED! :D Haha, love that.

Second track; Smoooth. Lovely. Don't like the bass. Like the way the drums mesh in with the rest of the sounds.. Very very good choice of hits. Very cool thing going on with the gain riding. Feels like the remnant of a beat making itself sporadically appear in a corner of my brain. well done!

Cheers for the soundcloud thing by the way!

My eee pc can't handle huge extravagant effect ridden tracks, so i'm moving in a more minimal direction. It's a pretty fun opportunity.
Made this little dark idm old school kinda thing, real happy about it. :)

I'm too lazy/untalented to make myself try doing correct mixdowns, and this track has really suffered :D I might fix up a few things and level it all.

Cheers, spent about 15 minutes putting it together in one sitting, so definitely something I'll develop.

/me comments on Soundcloud page.
Other than that, it's really unique, and got me chair dancing less than half an hour after I woke up. Nice.
