PSN Down and Out

I wonder what Trey4Life guy or whatever his name has to say about this shenanigan

Ha, this guy thought Mogi was being serious. What a moran.

It's getting extremely hard to tell. It's like trying to find the difference between the definitions of 'stop' and 'halt.'

Fine, be a bitch about it, I gained more than I lost from this

-PSN being down for a month, I had a lot of free time because I wasn't able to play online. I ended up being more active, I started going on long hikes, I walked 10 miles the other day and broke into an abandoned factory building when I would otherwise be playing Warhawk or some shit online.
-I didn't lose any money. In fact I probably saved money
-I got free games
-I smoked weed
-I win
notice that every single point you've got here is an 'I' statement?

Not a problem for you doesn't mean it's not a problem.

Haha It appears that you don't get to keep the games. It's just for 30 days. What a joke.

Edit: NO GAMES!

You don't get to keep the games you download by using PSN+ during the 30 days Sony will give out for free. You do get to keep the two games you chose from the list of five.

Eurogamer has seen video evidence that verifies reports that Sony's PlayStation Network password reset system suffers from an exploit that allows attackers to change your password using only your PSN account email and your date of birth – information compromised in the PSN hack of 20th April.

Hey look guys! The Sony game truck wants to give you FREE GAMES. Only if your stupid enough to use PSN again. Remember this "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me".

Or if you're a Chinese PSN user, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on Wu!"

Anyway, I'll probably continue to use PSN but I definitely am not sure if I'll ever buy stuff over PSN again, good thing my CC is about to expire anyway.

Anyones market work? I get the feeling mine wont work for EXACTLY 31 days

yeah Sony has been hacked how many times now? 4 is it??

they need to fix their shit first, before making further promises.

Holy shit Sony, they also reported like $3Billion loss for the year. read it on Engadget, its insane. Total cost of the PSN outage is like $170 million!

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/sony-estimates-3-2b-loss-this-year-171-million-cost-for-psn-b/

here it is:

Sony estimates $3.2b loss this year, $171 million cost for PSN breach
It has not been a good year for Sony, which was affected both by the massive earthquake in March and the PSN outage that spanned from April into May. There couldn't be any doubt that those things would have a drastic impact on the company's bottom-line, and it's now taking the time to give investors an idea of just how big an impact that could be -- even though the financial issues lie largely elsewhere. Sony is set to announce its full financial report for its fiscal year this Thursday and, to soften the blow, estimates have been revised steeply downward. Previously Sony predicted a ¥70 billion ($855 million) profit, but now thinks a ¥260 billion ($3.14 billion) loss is rather more accurate -- a ¥360 billion non-cash charge taking the wind out of ¥200 billion in operating income.

The earthquake was directly blamed for a loss of ¥22 billion, but that figure could certainly grow as this estimate is only through the end of March. Additionally, Sony has provided a early guess of a ¥14 billion (about $172 million) total cost for the PSN breach. That's less than two bucks per exposed account, but again we wouldn't be surprised if it's a figure that increases through the year. You know, once the lawyers start having their fun.

:(

thats why I dont laugh at this whole thing

This thread is an endless source of face-palm magnetism.

I kind of want to vomit knowing that a company can survive 3.2 billion dollar losses. Its got me thinking, is it even possible to kill off a huge corporation like this? I mean, apparently they can't even kill themselves.

Schweet. Does this mean we can access our free games now as well? My PS3 is currently at my other residence so I have no way of telling.

and its about damned time too -_-

just downloaded the LA Noire Pass, sweet! ^_^

downloaded the Red Faction Demo, gunna give that a whirl today. also I think I'll be just buying PSN cards from now on

http://lulzsecurity.com/releases/ I would not click on any of those links on that site. Contains stuff like "X Factor contestant database", "Fox.com/sales database" and "PBS.org staffers database".
The group managed to hack SonyPictures.com, compromising the personal information of over 1 million users - including passwords, email addresses, home addresses, and dates of birth.

SonyPictures.com was owned by a very simple SQL injection, one of the most primitive and common vulnerabilities.... From a single injection, we accessed EVERYTHING. Why do you put such faith in a company that allows itself to become open to these simple attacks?

What's worse is that every bit of data we took wasn't encrypted. Sony stored over 1,000,000 passwords of its customers in plaintext, which means it's just a matter of taking it. This is disgraceful and insecure: they were asking for it.

This is an embarrassment to Sony...

You'd think this company would check and -where necessary- change all their online activities after the PSN fiasco ....

Very much true but if your company gets hacked and you have a lot of divisions, your going to want to check out every division security just in case right? Plus just 1 SQL injection and STORING THE STUFF IN PLAIN TEXT?! I mean plain text? After they had said "oh no we don't do that" turns out they do.

Thats the exact same thing that happened with the PSN too. Hackers said the info was stored in unencrypted files, but they actually were encrypted. What makes you believe them this time?

Did they have CC numbers when they posted them on twitter? I thought all they got were forum passwords or something else pointless.

Last I read they were encrypted. However if you run a program that passes jibberish to over tons of accounts, your bound to unencrypt some and if you keep doing it, you get more and more. However I trust the hackers because they are showing evidence that they are not encrypted. Sony even took down a site with CC numbers and other sensitive data down and I'm pretty sure there are others like it. Anyways it wouldn't be normal if a week went by and Sony wasn't hacked with their Europe server hacked: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110606/bs_afp/japaneuropeitinternetsonycomputersecurity Now this reports they attacked elderly people only but I think that is BS because according to gametrailers I'm never the age I select: http://www.dailytech.com/EDITORIAL+...he+Wake+of+Latest+Sony+Hacks/article21819.htm

*This doesn't look encrypted Krynn with their Greece site hacked a few weeks ago:
