Quake Wars: Public Beta Next Week

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pJ9S9KN0ku4

Video of the beta.

I'm not crazy about how it looks like DM and less tactical, but then again, that's kind of how ET was. This looks even faster than ET was though.

EDIT: BTW...is there some law out there that requires all uploaders to post videos from betas with HORRIBLE music? WTF is with this aural garbage?

Hey Nightwish are awesome. Everyone has their own taste of music so meh.

Wow, never mind. I'm going to not enjoy this game at all. ****ing hate Quake-style DM games.

[edit] Come to think of it, I don't know why I was excited about it in the first place. I think it was the Enemy Territory in the name, and the idea that it'd be like a successor to BF1942.

I watched that video too... That looked pretty meh actually. Definitely not a BF2-killer as many say.

Well, we'll see when the beta comes out.

This is great timing. I don't have to work this and next week. Guess I'll be playing a lot of that beta.

Hmm, that video puts it in completely different light to every other offical video released.

Bunnyhopping looks like it's part of the game! :(

the same here, looks like quake 4 with something extra. WTF nah. I say wait and test it... can't judge it from a small clip. :sniper:

I've looked some other gameplay videos on YouTube from players POV... that video Amish posted is definatly speeded up.

Well the rabid fans over at the official site noticed Fileplanet posted their download link for the beta (they had to search to it from google) but they didn't have the Key system in place. Fileplanet said they were testing the beta (the key distribution?) before they posted it. The page has been pulled down now, but I think that's a sign it's probably coming any time from now until Wednesday. I doubt they'd put it up to test if it was coming any later...but ah well.

I hope to God that that video's sped up...
And that bunny hopping, who the **** thought it'd be a good idea to add that in?! :|

That looks awful.

Yeah, great video, I like how it shows the guy moving with a strategic finesse... still doesn't answer the bunny hopping issue though, maybe it's a server side option?

All videos up to today showed slower gameplay, then this **** who breaks the NDA and uses gay norwegian metal in his video comes along with quake 3 style footage. The fact that he used music to mask the speed is a hint that he fast forwarded the shit.

But... but... the bunny hopping!

I sincerely hope the bunny hopping is a server-side option or something.

Cause I'm pretty sure that in the older videos that there was a stamina bar.

Well, don't forget it is a beta. ID software said straight out, they have plenty of work to do - thats what beta testing is for. There are lots of bugs and tweaking to work on.

So if the popular vote says get rid of the bunny hopping, then they had better get rid of it.

It's a 10 minute easy fix even for a modder to do, so ID shouldn't have thing holding them back.

If you don't like bunny hopping then make sure to stay away from Battlefield 2 (and of course 2142).

That's what I ****ing hate in 2142, you start shooting at somebody... and they begin hopping around like a god damn retard. :|

Good thing for us they can't shoot while jumping or for about a second afterwards. They're just noobs that played Quake/UT/Etc. too much and don't realize that bunny hopping in 2142 only helps against being headshot by a sniper, bunny hopping hinders you in any other situation.

More news.

...Day 1 of key distribution is currently scheduled for the middle of this week. That's right, the first batch of keys for the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta will go out in just a few days! FilePlanet's ETQW sub-site will be going up that same day.

Extremely impressed at how they are doing this compared to BF2142. Major kudos to them! :smoking: Still don't think I'm going to get in though because I have a job (8-4PM). There is still that chance though! :cheese: Hey maybe Pitz can get me one...

And just to show how helpful Fileplanet is, the "sneak peek" of the Quake Wars beta is merely more advertising and hawking of a x-fire ripoff and a mailing list.

how many times are you going to post the same thing? you spammed this message in every beta-related thread on the quakewars site too--nobody cares. Also, the information page isn't the sneak peek... the sneak peek refers to getting to play the beta early. Duh.

If you sign up for a year's worth of Fileplanet ($40) you get the Beta right now.

If you're a subscriber to Fileplanet already, the first wave of keys go out sometime Wednesday. There will be more keys released each day. Then, on Saturday, non-subscribers get their first crack at signing up for keys.

They've said they have 30,000 keys reserved for Subscribers and the other 30,000 for free account holders.

They spread out key distribution like this so more people have a chance to sign up. Also:
This allows us to steadily increase the load on our back-end infrastructure, making sure we can effectively test that.

I'll be getting in on Wednesday if I can help it. No way I'm dropping $40 just to play a day early.

EDIT: Community forums have people posting impressions + Videos
