Quake Wars: Public Beta Next Week

NDA? Something to do with showing media I assume.
NDA stands for Non-Disclosure Agreement, it's a legally binding contract which is usually used for closed betas/alphas etc, by signing it you agree to not disclose any info about your participation or knowledge of the item in question, doing so gives them full right to sue/fine you.

For those reading their community site forums, yes, that's me spamming the hell out of them for their Fileplanet relationship and ads.

You have a problem with Capitalism....? :dozey:

Luckily my friend who is at army training atm doesn't need his account

muahahhaha

I'd rather he was back though :\ and I'd rather he never signed up for the damned army

/endrant

Lets get some more stories, screenies, and videos going! :D

Before I jump on to play some more, anybody else have this right now?

We should get our tags flying around so we can play together via the friends list.

My tag is AmishSlayer

What are the required specs to be in the beta, it wouldn't except mine.

Is it a DX10 only beta or something?

But I already reserved the beta, so maybe thats the reason I'm not allowed to re-subscribe to the same beta I guess?

My computer doesn't meet the requirements, LOL! Really need that new computer now. :upstare:

Wow, this is just retarded...

In an IRC Q&A session:

[21:54] <etqw> bei asked: is VOIP built into the game, or will we still need Vent/TS servers?
[21:54] <etqw> Locki-SD answers: We removed VOIP from the PC version of the game. There are other alternatives for the PC.

How stupid is this? If any game needs VOIP it's a game like this. Wolf:ET got by without it because it was old and it was all infantry combat, thus less complex. Now with added objectives, vehicles everywhere, and multiple class roles...there's never been more need for VOIP for a good teamplay experience (which is what this game is supposed to be about).

Then on the community forums a Programmer replies:
As Locki said, the PC version will not ship with VoIP, however that does not mean that it will not be added later in a patch.

Like I trust that....

This has me pissed off.

I.m willing to sell my key $20 over paypal

send me a PM if anyone is interested.

Sidewinder, they're gonna give out another batch of keys out this weekend to regular free-subs. And a sub to FP only costs 5$ for a month. So if anything you should be selling it for >5$.

I can't really play this, OpenGL + Vista = lots and lots of crashes :( Runs alright at 1680x1050 when it does run, it gets quite laggy when it gets busy though.

tip of the day: >5$ means "more than five" :p

Seems everyone on the community site is really disappointed with it.
My expectations low since it's a beta.
But the fact that you can destroy vehicles with anything other than explosives really upsets me.

It's like everyone set their bars really high.

Next batch of keys are for non-subs today, right?

Seems everyone on the community is really disappointed with it.

You'll find that most of the community are made up of ET and RTCW fans, hence some of the disappointment - something you'll always get when a game with such a loyal fanbase goes through some changes. It's not 'everyone' either, alot of people are enjoying Quake Wars a great deal.

My gripes with QW - I think I can speak now as the beta is now public - is that the inclusion of vehicles has taken some of the emphasis away from fighting on foot. Hardly suprising, but the case nonetheless.

What I enjoyed most about rtcw was running into battle as a team - medics at the back, soldeirs covering, charging into bottlenecks and hoping to survive the world of shit you found yourself in. Die, spawn, rinse and repeat. The game was fast, hectic and never let up. ET added a class, made the maps bigger, took away some of the focus and slowed the pace, but the essence was still there. With Quake Wars the maps are huge and vehicles play a significant role. As a result the on foot clashes I liked so much about RTCW feature less.

very disappointing ..it might as well have just been a Battlefield game. I knew this would happen when they announced they were leaving the ww2 setting

There's still a good deal of ET left in it. There's fighting interiors and areas that vehicles are no use, rushing to build bridges, reviving teammates, captruing objectives. I must admit not being a fan of the setting tho - certainly not a patch on the DC comic Nazi vs allies style found in rtcw. I'm not a fan of lazers either - balistic weapons all the way.

dont forget the over the top german voices

while it's nice to see they retained close combat, I'm afraid players will rely too heavily on vehicles ..I havent played it but a lone troop doesnt stand much of a chance against even the weakest of vehicles

Haha nice, more keys were distributed... and now it's saying "ACT NOW! OR MISS OUT!" when it's STILL subscriber only.

**** fileplanet.

I thought this time it was meant to be public? :|

This seriously has to be the worst beta distribution system I've ever seen.

Subscribers have been playing the ****ing beta for a week and a half already! :|

Nope :|

Timeline:

Saturday: Public Beta announced
Monday: Sneak peek keys are given to NEW annual subscribers at night.
Tuesday: The last few "sneak peek" keys are given to subscribers
Wednesday: First wave of subscriber keys
Thursday: Second wave of subscriber keys
Friday: Third wave of subscriber keys
Saturday: Fst wave of free acct. keys
Sunday: Second wave of free acct. keys

This is almost always how subscriber betas go. It's exclusive to subs for the first few days then it's opened to the public. This is just slightly different because it's a highly anticipated beta.

This information was announced Saturday and further details were given Monday. There was never anything official saying free keys would be handed out today.

During the first three days of this process, keys will be available to FilePlanet subscribers only. This will be followed by two days of keys for anyone with a free FilePlanet account.

Well that blows... I have to wait a few more days to try it out myself. :(

It's good fun, has a lot of potential. I think the beta is a "dubbed down" version of the game, lots of graphical elements missing like high polygon models and high-res textures.

It won't even let me try to get a key... since my E6600 core 2 duo processor, Geforce 8800 GTX, and 2 GB of memory don't meet the minimum requirements. Yeah, I didn't want to fkin' play anyway!

Try again in IE.

I played for a few hours and I didn't like it. Too quake like still. Runs around 20-30 fps on high detail with this rig, it's heavy on the graphics.

Loads of gamers are stating this game sucks in every possible way.... its not a BF2 killer at all.

The problem is that it was advertised that way. :|

That's the main reason I was so enticed by the game, I thought it'd be the tactical multiplayer game to end all others.

Only to find out that it's essentially the same thing as Wolf : ET :|

Meh, I still haven't played it yet... so I'm in no place to judge it.

From what i have seen it won't be a BF2 beater...but even 2142 failed to do that!

Maybe it can change before release and become more tactically focused.

Still hella-fun though

Failed? Tis a shame so many people hate the futuristic setting. 2142 is superior imo, ah well. Figured I'd pass on this beta and wait for retail but stuff it grabbed my key a few hours ago, now waiting on my slow internet to download the client.

200mb to go.
