Quake Wars

I'm looking forward to ET:QW and Spore. UT style gameplay isn't my cup of tea.
 
I don't particularly like the look of quake wars but I think it will be fun to play :)
 
i ment spikey as in .. oh wait nevermind its just my poster for doom 3...the aliens nails are spikey...

TBH I'm gonna have to play a demo QW first. I never played a BF game before bf2. In fact I only picked up the game because I wanted to show off my new vid card at that time. QW will be my first Quake game also and I should be getting the X1950PRO AGP soon.

Nope. Before I played any games I was playing the Doom demo and some other free game that came on a 3 1/2 disc. Oh and newgrounds too. Then I decided to get HL that my friend showed me years ago and the rest is history.
 
Off topic, but I'd recommend 2 and 4. 3's super good for multiplayer practice.

On topic, how much of the fighting in a bf-style game is first person? It seems like some of it is. I'm interested in this game immensely, but not if it's all maps and strategy. I just want to gib Strogg. :sniper: :borg:
 
The first quake was rather fun, that's where I got my first e-girlfriend *I was 13 :p* We were running around the level, killed each other a few times, got each others ICQ, talked on the phone for a few months, then that kind of died.

But boy was it hillarious.
 
Do you have a source that QW runs on the Doom 3 engine? I want confirmed proof because that's very interesting.

Will there be a commander in QW? I don't think so.
 
It does run on the Doom 3 engine. This has been common knowledge for years. No, I'm not going to look it up for you. :)

You should watch a few vids or the trailer at least to get an idea. It's very very very very fast paced compared to the battlefield series. Movement barely affects recoil, so wherever you point your xhair, you score a hit, quake style.
 
Quake Wars doesn't look very fast paced. It's likely going to be like Enemy Territory. It'd be incredibly stupid if it was just BF on steroids.
 
People need to stop comparing it to BF2142. The only thing similar is the time it is set in.

Didn't like the BF engine.

ET is also very fast paced compared to most shooters out there with the notable exception of the UT series. But that's a good thing in my opinion, I'm tired of these sluggish fps games where you're running at a snail's pace.
 
I don't mind running and gunning, as long as you put some strategy into it. BF 2142 is a bit more arcadey compared to BF2, but you really only do good when you work in squads and listen to the squad leader and commander.
 
Well QW is'nt that fast. I have seen the video's some time ago. It certainly goes much faster than hitting the sprint key all the time like in bf. ;) When is any info coming out?!?!

It's very hard to make a well balanced fast gameplay. It can easily highlight problems and turn into an exploiting death fest'.
 
by the look's of things a closed beta seems to have taken place, havn't had an update from SD for quite a while the public beta was supposed to be out by xmas :(
 
Well, i'll infer from indirect answers that there's a first-person element to Quake Wars. As far as fast paced games go, what's an example of a fast one? I always find Quake III to be the fastest (note: I've not played Unreal since The Awakening). Quake III is pretty fast, no?

Quake 1/2/3, Enemy Territory Wolfenstien is a very good example. The original UT as well.

I think QW will be more BF2142 paced but better presented.
 
Quake III is the fastest mainstream game, but the original Quake was about twice as fast. Painkiller is about the same speed as Quake...perhaps faster. Look for the Painkiller match between Fatal1ty and Voo on youtube...it makes Quake III look slowass.
 
I wonder if this game will run on x1400 w/ med settings..i mean it could run quake 4 on high settings..

By the looks of it it's so much different from Battlefield, it probably will do as much to it as to any other FPS.
 
I'm actually pretty psyched to see what Carmack and co. did with the Doom III engine, I'd like believe they were successful in creating large environments utilizing Megatexture
 
Is there a single player mode? Not? 'nother MMO then.
