I'm sure I'm not alone, but I wonder what causes this? I'll be sitting at work, and out of NOWHERE the most deafening high pitched sound, only audible to me mind you, and it drives me NUTS. I, of course, forget it exists after a while, and it just goes away. I don't understand!

BRAIN WORMS!

Hmmm...damn, I was hoping that wasn't it. And you better end that /thread business, I won't have one of MY threads end within a page!

QUICK SPAM IT TO TWO PAGES!

Brainworms tbh

My mother once told me how I'd always complain about "bees" stuck in my inner ear.

I get it too sometimes. But it feels like my whole ear bungs up (like when you have a cold) and i get a high pitch scream in my ear. Agreed its very annoying.

I say get rid of the little guy on your shoulder.

Its actually the sound of ear cells dying. You'll never hear that pitch/frequency again...apparently.

Or anything else for that matter...:|

But seriously now I get it too sometimes. I hear high pitched sounds that seem to be coming from nowhere, but sometimes I can actually identify the source and it can be something as mundane as a faulty cooling fan on your motherboard making that horrid sound. I think this happens only to people that can hear unusually high pitched sounds that most people don't hear.

Yes, it either occurs when you have tinnitus or when you just rip a hole through it. You'll hear a frequency of 1000Hz all the time then. Some guy here at school punched a damn pencil through his eardrum, he had to have it repaired and healed but he still heard the sound ALL THE TIME for a year or so.

Yeah, ever since I was a kid I could hear the TV being on, even when I'm not in the room, and the volume is all the way down. Don't know if everybody has that problem.

And one think I notice alot is the ability I have to "hear" people sneaking up behind me. Like I'll be sitting there, and I'll here a certain high pitched noise when someone is coming near me...I guess that's good. No black person going to get the negrojump on me!

Yeah I have that exact same thing. For instance when someone is coming from behind me when they get very close I get this strange feeling and I hear that high pitched sound. Probably some kind of radar:p .
The weird thing is I sometimes have that feeling that someone is very close to me and I hear that sound even when I'm all alone in my apartment, gives me the creeps D: D:

Do you experience weird feelings when there is a full moon?

I mean, only dogs can hear high frequencies...just thought we should narrow down the problem :naughty:

I can do the same. :|

It may not be tinnitus. You might have an ear infection, or badly blocked pathways.

Go to the doctor and have an ear examination. Hearing loss is something that can never be found again.

I hear something like that from time to time. I don't think its anything these guys are talking about. I think we might have powers. Maybe its like scanners. Maybe we can make peoples heads explode.

i get this too sometimes
although it goes away pretty quickly

I have the same thing, extremely high pitched sound in one or both ears for a moment of seconds, sometimes cleaning out the ear makes it stop abruptly.

Good to hear I'm not alone in mah brain worms D:

I get it too, but it only slightly 'mutes' the hearing in it, with a little high pitched sound ringing.

BRAIN WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get the same thing. I have/had Otitis Media, which may be the cause of mine.

Have you had any major ear infections, as far as you know?

I have mild tinnitus on my left ear since 2005. I can only hear it when im in a silent room. I visited many docs and had all sorts of tests but none could find the cause. Anyway, I got used to it.

It all started as a cold and I would get a sudden high frequency sound in my left ear at random times during the day and it would slowly fade away in a few minutes or seconds. After I got rid of the cold the ringing became permanent. It started almost completely silent and then it got a little louder to the point where I can hear loud enough in a completely silent room but its still not annoying because I dont hear it most of the day, only when I go to bed and its completely silent and any low volume noise it masks it so I cant hear it.

It could be an ear infection, something to do with your sinuses (if you have allergies that is common) and many other things. Sometimes the cause cannot be found because tinnitus is not a disease but just a symptom. Its something harmless 99% of the times but it could also be serious.
You better visit the doc ASAP (an otolaryngologist that is) before it becomes a problem. I was a little late when I visited a doc (like 4-5 months) and he said that he could probably heal it (=prevent it from becoming permanent) if I was there in time so you better be quick. Also, I heard cases where after the ear infection or whatever was the cause gets healed, the ringing still stays for 6 months to 2 years.

It seems that only our generation {withing the last 15 years} can hear TVs and Computers being on just due to the pitch generating from the screen...

I get that too. It actually happens to me with various things. Like it happens when somebody uses a leaf/snow blower too.

I'd say yes to the ear infection or blockage..but I've had this most of my life....I figure by now, it would have gone away/be something more serious?

I hate it, when the TV is on and the vol is on mute, It gets irritating hearing that pitch that the TV throws off.

I have the same thing, thought atm i can't remember which ear it is in. Though I do have allergies and my ears always feel screwed up (pop all the time when I chew gum or open my jaw all the way) because I blow my nose alot before my medicine kicks in...

sometimes when I am listening to loud music, normally when its live, like at a concert or something, it almost sounds like the music is being distorted in my right ear. Almost like the sound of a speaker that is blown, vibrating as loud sound comes into it...

But other than that, I dont have a hearing problem, though my Fiance may disagree =P

Im still convinced we have some kind of powers here. Were gonna be blowin up stuff later. With our minds. Just watch >_>

But yeah same I've had this forever :|

weird, theres actually other people who have the same thing as me D:

every day, constantly theres a ringing in my ear. But its only noticable in a silent room, when there are other sound around, i cant hear the ringing

Right now, there are people behind me talking, and I have low level music playing in front of me *I am at work* and I still hear the ringing...I must admit though, I DO have a hearing problem. I can't concentrate on someone talking to me, unless I'm paying CLOSE attention, but if there is any background noise, I can't hear jack. It's horrible, because I say, "What?" more than anybody. :(

Which reminds me, I need to get my ears vacuumed again.

Anyone else have this done? Suck out all the... gunk, and immediately after everything sounds like it's coming through over a loud speaker. It's awesome :D

I get the TV thing too. The weird thing is everybody I know thinks I'm nuts when I get annoyed by it because they can't hear the TV while it's just in AUX2 or on mute.

I've always wondered if you could actually get this done, can you get this for the nose as well? D:
